THE CONCEPT OF TRIPARTISM
International Labour Conference (ILC) is a meeting 
point for 185 member States (government, workers and 
employers equally represented) where they adopt 
standards and discuss critical issues. This normally 
takes place during May - June at Palais des Nations, 
Geneva, Switzerland. 
ILO Organs
The Governing Body (GB) is ILO’s executive arm which 
meets thrice a year (March, June and November). 
It takes decisions on ILO policy, decides the agenda of 
the International Labour Conference, adopts the draft 
Programme and Budget of the Organization for 
submission to the Conference, and elects the Director- 
General. 
ILO Organs
The International Labour Office is headed by a 
Director General, elected every five (5) years by the 
GB. The Office acts as ILO’s Secretariat.
