California-based Le Melange Vineyards & Winery has bought the 17-hectare Quixote estate in Napa from 81-year-old Carl Doumani.While a fee has not been officially disclosed, the property has been up for sale for the past two years and its asking price was close to $30m. The deal appears to offer more evidence of rising Chinese interest in California. Le Melange is thought to be funded by Gold Tower Group in China's Jilin Province. California's department of alcoholic beverage control named Le Melange's president as Bert Zhang. A sister company, Jinta Vineyards and Winery, last year bought Hannah Nicole Vineyards and Winery in California’s Contra Costa County.Aaron Pott, head winemaker at Quixote, told DecanterChina.com, 'I am working with the new owners and I will continue to make the wine for Carl who has kept a small section of 0.8 hectares of vineyard on the property above the one he sold. 'I am interested in taking Quixote in a new direction and looking forward to the new investment in the winery.'Quixote produces Petite Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon under the Quixote label, from an 11-hectare vineyard lying between Stags' Leap Winery and Shafer Vineyards.

Hong Kong firmbuys 650ha of Australian vineyards By Chris Mercer 5 February 2015 Hong Kong's CK Life Sciences has added to its vineyard collection by acquiring three Australian vineyards owned by wine producer McWilliam's for nearly A$16m. Image: Vineyards at McWilliam The Hong Kong firm, which already owns thousands of hectares of vines, said it has bought the Hanwood vineyard in Griffith, New South Wales, as well as the Station and Kirkgate vineyards in South Australia. It paid A$15.7m for 700ha of land, of which 650 is under vine. CK Life Sciences is a subsidiary of billionaire Li Ka- ‐shing’s Cheung Kong Holdings. The deal is another example of Asia-‐based investors showing an interest in Australian vineyards and wine estates, and it follows the agreement of a free trade deal between Australia and China. McWilliam’s has agreed to rent the vineyards from CK Life Sciences for 15 years, with the option to renew for a further five years. The deal is similar to one that CK Life Sciences completed in New Zealand last year.
