This paper presents an approach for image restoration in the presence of blur and noise. The image is divided into independent regions modeled with a Gaussian prior. Wavelet based methods are used for image denoising, while classical Wiener filtering is used for deblurring. The algorithm finds the maximum a posteriori estimate at the intersection of convex sets generated by Wiener filtering. It provides efficient image restoration without sacrificing the simplicity of filtering, and generates a better restored image.

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data represents a significant resource of information for a large variety of researchers. Thus, there is a strong interest in developing data encoding and decoding algorithms which can obtain higher compression ratios while keeping image quality to an acceptable level. In this work, results of different wavelet-based image compression and segmentation based wavelet image compression are assessed through controlled experiments on synthetic SAR images. The effects of dissimilar wavelet functions, number of decompositions are examined in order to find optimal family for SAR images. The choice of optimal wavelets in segmentation based wavelet image compression is coiflet for low frequency and high frequency component. The results presented here is a good reference for SAR application developers to choose the wavelet families and also it concludes that wavelets transform is rapid, robust and reliable tool for SAR image compression. Numerical results confirm the potency of this approach.

A NOVEL ALGORITHM FOR IMAGE DENOISING USING DT-CWT sipij
Â
This paper addresses image enhancement system consisting of image denoising technique based on Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) . The proposed algorithm at the outset models the noisy remote sensing image (NRSI) statistically by aptly amalgamating the structural features and textures from it. This statistical model is decomposed using DTCWT with Tap-10 or length-10 filter banks based on
Farras wavelet implementation and sub band coefficients are suitably modeled to denoise with a method which is efficiently organized by combining the clustering techniques with soft thresholding - softclustering technique. The clustering techniques classify the noisy and image pixels based on the
neighborhood connected component analysis(CCA), connected pixel analysis and inter-pixel intensity variance (IPIV) and calculate an appropriate threshold value for noise removal. This threshold value is used with soft thresholding technique to denoise the image .Experimental results shows that that the
proposed technique outperforms the conventional and state-of-the-art techniques .It is also evaluated that the denoised images using DTCWT (Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform) is better balance between smoothness and accuracy than the DWT.. We used the PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) along with
RMSE to assess the quality of denoised images.

Sub-windowed laser speckle image velocimetry by fast fourier transform technique
Abstract
In this work, laser speckle velocimetry, a unique optical method for velocity measurement of fluid flow has been described. A laser sheet is developed and is illuminated on microscopic seeded particles to produce the speckle pattern at the recording plane. Double frame- single-exposure speckle images are captured in such a way that the second speckle image is shifted exactly in a known direction. The auto-correlation method has the ambiguity of direction of flow. To rectify this, spatial shift of the second image has been premeditated. Cross-correlation of sub interrogation areas is obtained by Fast Fourier Transform technique. Four sub-windows processed to obtain the velocity information with vector map analysis precisely.

A Comparative Study of Wavelet and Curvelet Transform for Image DenoisingIOSR Journals

Abstract : This paper describes a comparison of the discriminating power of the various multiresolution based thresholding techniques i.e., Wavelet, curve let for image denoising.Curvelet transform offer exact reconstruction, stability against perturbation, ease of implementation and low computational complexity. We propose to employ curve let for facial feature extraction and perform a thorough comparison against wavelet transform; especially, the orientation of curve let is analysed. Experiments show that for expression changes, the small scale coefficients of curve let transform are robust, though the large scale coefficients of both transform are likely influenced. The reason behind the advantages of curvelet lies in its abilities of sparse representation that are critical for compression, estimation of images which are denoised and its inverse problems, thus the experiments and theoretical analysis coincide . Noise resistance territorial intensity-based optical flow using inverse confi...journalBEEI

This paper presents the use of the inverse confidential technique on bilateral function with the territorial intensity-based optical flow to prove the effectiveness in noise resistance environment. In general, the image’s motion vector is coded by the technique called optical flow where the sequences of the image are used to determine the motion vector. But, the accuracy rate of the motion vector is reduced when the source of image sequences is interfered by noises. This work proved that the inverse confidential technique on bilateral function can increase the percentage of accuracy in the motion vector determination by the territorial intensity-based optical flow under the noisy environment. We performed the testing with several kinds of non-Gaussian noises at several patterns of standard image sequences by analyzing the result of the motion vector in a form of the error vector magnitude (EVM) and compared it with several noise resistance techniques in territorial intensity-based optical flow method.

Abstract
Recently the digital imaging applications is increasing significantly and it leads the requirement of effective image compression techniques. Image compression removes the redundant information from an image. By using it we can able to store only the necessary information which helps to reduce the transmission bandwidth, transmission time and storage size of image. This paper proposed a new image compression technique using DCT-Biorthogonal Wavelet Transform with arithmetic coding for improvement the visual quality of an image. It is a simple technique for getting better compression results. In this new algorithm firstly Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied and then 2D DCT-Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied on each block of the low frequency sub band. Finally, split all values from each transformed block and arithmetic coding is applied for image compression.

Noise Reduction in Magnetic Resonance Images using Wave Atom ShrinkageCSCJournals
Â
De-noising is always a challenging problem in magnetic resonance imaging and important for clinical diagnosis and computerized analysis, such as tissue classification and segmentation. It is well known that the noise in magnetic resonance imaging has a Rician distribution. Unlike additive Gaussian noise, Rician noise is signal dependent, and separating signal from noise is a difficult task. An efficient method for enhancement of noisy magnetic resonance image using wave atom shrinkage is proposed. The reconstructed MRI data have high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) compared to the curvelet and wavelet domain de-noising approaches.

Fast Motion Estimation for Quad-Tree Based Video Coder Using Normalized Cross...CSCJournals
Â
Motion estimation is the most challenging and time consuming stage in block based video codec. To reduce the computation time, many fast motion estimation algorithms were proposed and implemented. This paper proposes a quad-tree based Normalized Cross Correlation (NCC) measure for obtaining estimates of inter-frame motion. The measure operates in frequency domain using FFT algorithm as the similarity measure with an exhaustive full search in region of interest. NCC is a more suitable similarity measure than Sum of Absolute Difference (SAD) for reducing the temporal redundancy in video compression since we can attain flatter residual after motion compensation. The degrees of homogeneous and stationery regions are determined by selecting suitable initial fixed threshold for block partitioning. An experimental result of the proposed method shows that actual numbers of motion vectors are significantly less compared to existing methods with marginal effect on the quality of reconstructed frame. It also gives higher speed up ratio for both fixed block and quad-tree based motion estimation methods.

Ijri ece-01-02 image enhancement aided denoising using dual tree complex wave...Ijripublishers Ijri

This paper presents a novel way to reduce noise introduced or exacerbated by image enhancement methods, in particular
algorithms based on the random spray sampling technique, but not only. According to the nature of sprays,
output images of spray-based methods tend to exhibit noise with unknown statistical distribution. To avoid inappropriate
assumptions on the statistical characteristics of noise, a different one is made. In fact, the non-enhanced image is
considered to be either free of noise or affected by non-perceivable levels of noise. Taking advantage of the higher sensitivity
of the human visual system to changes in brightness, the analysis can be limited to the luma channel of both the
non-enhanced and enhanced image. Also, given the importance of directional content in human vision, the analysis is
performed through the dual-tree complex wavelet transform , lanczos interpolator and edge preserving smoothing filters.
Unlike the discrete wavelet transform, the DTWCT allows for distinction of data directionality in the transform space.
For each level of the transform, the standard deviation of the non-enhanced image coefficients is computed across the
six orientations of the DTWCT, then it is normalized.
Keywords: dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTWCT), lanczos interpolator, edge preserving smoothing filters.

Abstract Image compression is a process that helps in fast data transfer and effective memory utilization. In effect, the objective is to reduce data redundancy of the image while retaining high image quality. This paper proposes an approach for Wavelet based Image Compression using MLFF Neural Network with Error Back Propagation (EBP) training algorithm for second level approximation component and modified RLC is applied on second level Horizontal and Vertical components with threshold to discard insignificant coefficients. All other sub-bands (i.e. Detail components of 1st level and Diagonal component of 2nd level) that do not affect the quality of image (both subjective and objective) are neglected. With the proposed method in this paper CR (27.899), PSNR (70.16 dB) and minimum MSE (0.0063) of still image obtained are better when compared with SOFM, EZW and SPIHT. Abstract: Due to higher processing power to cost ratio, it is now possible to replace the manual detection methods used in the IC (Integrated Circuit) industry by Image-processing based automated methods, to detect a broken pin of an IC connected on a PCB during manufacturing, which will make the process faster, easier and cheaper. In this paper an accurate and fast automatic detection method is used where the top view camera shots of PCBs are processed using advanced methods of 2-dimensional discrete wavelet pre-processing before applying edge-detection. Comparison with conventional edge detection methods such as Sobel, Prewitt and Canny edge detection without 2-D DWT is also performed. This paper presents a novel way to reduce noise introduced or exacerbated by image enhancement methods, in particular algorithms based on the random spray sampling technique, but not only. According to the nature of sprays, output images of spray-based methods tend to exhibit noise with unknown statistical distribution. To avoid inappropriate assumptions on the statistical characteristics of noise, a different one is made. In fact, the non-enhanced image is considered to be either free of noise or affected by non-perceivable levels of noise. Taking advantage of the higher sensitivity of the human visual system to changes in brightness, the analysis can be limited to the luma channel of both the non-enhanced and enhanced image. Also, given the importance of directional content in human vision, the analysis is performed through the dual-tree complex wavelet transform , lanczos interpolator and edge preserving smoothing filters. Unlike the discrete wavelet transform, the DTWCT allows for distinction of data directionality in the transform space. For each level of the transform, the standard deviation of the non-enhanced image coefficients is computed across the six orientations of the DTWCT, then it is normalized.
Keywords: dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTWCT), lanczos interpolator, edge preserving smoothing filters.

The lifting scheme of the discrete wavelet transform
(DWT) is now quite well established as an efficient technique
for image denoising. The lifting scheme factorization of
biorthogonal filter banks is carried out with a linear-adaptive,
delay free and faster decomposition arithmetic. This adaptive
factorization is aimed to achieve a well transparent, more
generalized, complexity free fast decomposition process in
addition to preserve the features that an ordinary wavelet
decomposition process offers. This work is targeted to get
considerable reduction in computational complexity and power
required for decomposition. The hard striking demerits of
DWT structure viz., shift sensitivity and poor directionality
had already been proven to be washed out with an emergence
of dual tree complex wavelet (DT-CWT) structure. The well
versed features of DT-CWT and robust lifting scheme are
suitably combined to achieve an image denoising with prolific
rise in computational speed and directionality, also with a
desirable drop in computation time, power and complexity of
algorithm compared to all other techniques.

In this paper, we analyze and compare the performance of fusion methods based on four different
transforms: i) wavelet transform, ii) curvelet transform, iii) contourlet transform and iv) nonsubsampled
contourlet transform. Fusion framework and scheme are explained in detail, and two different sets of
images are used in our experiments. Furthermore, eight different performancemetrics are adopted to
comparatively analyze the fusion results. The comparison results show that the nonsubsampled contourlet
transform method performs better than the other three methods, both spatially and spectrally. We also
observed from additional experiments that the decomposition level of 3 offered the best fusion performance,
anddecomposition levels beyond level-3 did not significantly improve the fusion results.

Electrically small antennas: The art of miniaturizationEditor IJARCET
Â
We are living in the technological era, were we preferred to have the portable devices rather than unmovable devices. We are isolating our self rom the wires and we are becoming the habitual of wireless world what makes the device portable? I guess physical dimensions (mechanical) of that particular device, but along with this the electrical dimension is of the device is also of great importance. Reducing the physical dimension of the antenna would result in the small antenna but not electrically small antenna. We have different definition for the electrically small antenna but the one which is most appropriate is, where k is the wave number and is equal to and a is the radius of the imaginary sphere circumscribing the maximum dimension of the antenna. As the present day electronic devices progress to diminish in size, technocrats have become increasingly concentrated on electrically small antenna (ESA) designs to reduce the size of the antenna in the overall electronics system. Researchers in many fields, including RF and Microwave, biomedical technology and national intelligence, can benefit from electrically small antennas as long as the performance of the designed ESA meets the system requirement.

Abstract— This paper presents an effective approach for
image restoration in the presence of both blur and
noise. Here the image is divided into independent regions.
Each region is modelled with a WSS Gaussian prior. This
algorithm uses wavelet based methods for image
denoising. Classical Wiener filter theory is used to
generate a set of convex sets in the solution space, with
the solution to the MAP estimation problem lying at the
intersection of these sets. The algorithm is suitable for a
range of image restoration problems. It provides a
computationally efficient means to deal with the
shortcomings of Wiener filtering without sacrificing the
computational simplicity of the filtering approach. This
method provides a better restored image.
Index Terms— Image denoising, image restoration, image
segmentation.
I. INTRODUCTION
This paper is mainly concerned with the image restoration
problem. That is, given a noisy set of degraded observations
and we wish to generate an optimal estimate of the original
scene. An often addressed problem in image processing is the
inverse imaging problem and images are degraded by spatial
blur and additive random noise. Spatial blurring is often due
to lens abberation and motion, while the additive noise is
often due to electronic noise in the imaging system. Image
restoration has many applications in different areas. In
recovery process some assumptions about the source must be
made and it include both denoising and deblurring[1].In this
paper wavelet based methods are used for image denoising
because this methods are currently the best choice for
denoising, both in terms of performance and computational
efficiency.Wavelet based methods had a strong impact on
denoising[5]. Their success is due the fact that the wavelet

transforms of images tend to be sparse (i.e., manycoefficients
are close to zero). This implies that image approximations
based on a small subset of wavelets are typically very
accurate, which is a key to wavelet-based compression. The
good performance of wavelet-based denoising is also
intimately related to the approximation capabilities of
wavelets. Deconvolution is most easily dealt with in the
Fourier domain. However, image denoising is best handled
in the wavelet domain. Classical Wiener filter theory is used
for deblurring[2].
II. METHOD OVERVIEW
Here, we provide an overview of our proposed method and
the major contribution of this paper, using a piecewise
stationary prior how to compute the MAP estimate[1]. Here
we assumes a known segmentation for the image. Later
section discuss how to perform the segmentation problem.
We consider the image formation model
where g the original image is blurred by the LSI filter A and
η has additive Gaussian noise . Given this blurred, noisy
image ζ we wish to recover an estimate of the original image
g. Solution to proposed method is the MAP estimate under
the assumption of a piecewise stationary Gaussian prior[3].
Here we the computational simplicity of LSI filtering. We
introduce the notion of the extension of a region to maintain
shift invariance at the boundaries between the regions of the
piecewise stationaryprior. This algorithm uses wavelet based
methods for image denoising. The continuous wavelet
transform is defined as follows
As seen in the above equation , the transformed signal is a
function of two variables, tau and s , the translation and scale
parameters, respectively. psi(t) is the transforming function,
and it is called the mother wavelet . The term mother wavelet
gets its name due to two important properties of the wavelet

analysis as explained below. The term wavelet means a small
wave . The smallness refers to the condition that this function
is of finite length . The wave refers to the condition that this
function is oscillatory. The term mother implies that the
functions with different region of support that are used in the
transformation process are derived from one main function,
or the mother wavelet. In other words, the mother wavelet is
a prototype for generating the other window functions. I
would like to include two mother wavelets commonly used
in wavelet analysis. The Mexican Hat wavelet is defined as
the second derivative of the Gaussian function.
which is
The Morlet wavelet is defined as
The reconstruction is possible by using the following
reconstruction formula:
where C_psi is a constant that depends on the wavelet used.
The success of the reconstruction depends on this constant
called, the admissibility constant , to satisfy the following
admissibility condition:
where psi^hat(xi) is the FT of psi(t).
Although the discretized continuous wavelet transform
enables the computation of the continuous wavelet transform
by computers, it is not a true discrete transform. Wavelet
series is simply a sampled version of the CWT It provides
information whichis highly redundant as far as the
reconstruction of the signal is concerned. This redundancy
requires a significant amount of computation time and
resources. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) provides
sufficient information both for analysis and synthesis of the
original signal, with a significant reduction in the
computation time. The DWT is considerably easier to
implement when compared to the CWT. The main idea is the
same as it is in the CWT. Using digital filtering techniques
we can obtain the time-scale representation of a digital
signal. CWT is a correlation between a wavelet at different
scales and the signal with the scale (or the frequency) being
used as a measure of similarity. The continuous wavelet
transform was computed by changing the scale of the
analysis window, shifting the window in time, multiplying by
the signal, and integrating over all times. In the discrete
case, filters of different cutoff frequencies are used to
analyze the signal at different scales . The signal is passed
through a series of high pass filters to analyze the high
frequencies, and it is passed through a series of low pass
filters to analyze the low frequencies. The resolution of the
signal, which is a measure of the amount of detail
information in the signal, is changed by the filtering
operations, and the scale is changed by up sampling and
down sampling (sub sampling)operations. Sub sampling a
signal corresponds to reducing the sampling rate, or
removing some of the samples of the signal. For example, sub
sampling by two refers to dropping every other sample of the
signal. Sub sampling by a factor n reduces the number of
samples in the signal n times.
It is instructive to consider the limiting cases of extreme
segmentation and no segmentation at all. If there is no
segmentation, that is, the image is considered to be all in the
same region, the solution is just the ordinary Wiener filter
result, and the SOR method converges directly to the solution
in a single iteration[4]. At the other extreme, the image can
be segmented such that everypixel in the image belongs to its
own region. In this case, assuming the prior has infinite
power at DC, the extension of each region reduces to
simple replication of the single known pixel at the center.
This replication means we can do away with the linear
prediction equations and replace with in the Wiener filter
equations[6].
III. SUMMARY OF METHOD
The proposed method include the following steps. First, the
image is divided into different independent regions. An
initial segmentation is generated from the observed image.
This can be done in a number of ways; ( eg : have used a
watershed algorithm applied to the Wiener filter
estimate). Here modified K means algorithm is used for
initial segmentation. After applying this algorithm we get an
image with different clusters. Clustres are formed based on
the pixel values on the images and also we get the boundaries
between the clusters. While the segmentation may sometimes
be known in advance, for most applications it is not. An
initial segmentation can be determined by applying standard
segmentation algorithms to the Wiener filter result.
However, the solution is quite sensitive to the exact location
of the boundary. We then insert spline control points at
boundaries between regions. default pixel spacing is used by
the control points and which is adjusted to ensure points are
placed on any sharp corners in segmentation. A high
resolution segmentation is determined based upon the spline
control boundaries. Here we perform the segmentation and

spline control point insertion at boundaries simultaneously.
Using linear prediction method we generate the extensions
for each region. For image denoising wavelet based methods
are used. Given the segmentation, we then use the successive
over relaxation method to solve for the MAP estimate given
the segmentation. Once we have the MAP estimate, we can
then compute the local cost function and try different
locations for the control points. In many real applications the
original scene is a continuous image. The blur operator
effectively cuts off all frequencies higher than some
frequency , and the blurred image is then sampled. Far from
region boundaries, the standard Shannon sampling theorem
applies, and provided the image is sampled at greater than
the Nyquist rate of , the Wiener filter can be used to generate
an alias free reconstruction. However, our prior model allows
sharp jumps between neighboring regions, and the location
of these jumps can be recovered with greater accuracy than
can be represented on a grid at the Nyquist rate.
IV. COMPLEXITY
This method provides a better computational time for each
iteration of the MAP estimate. It require less computational
time than previous methods. It also provide a good PSNR.
most of the complexity arises due to the iterations of the
segmentation refinement procedure, which varies with the
complexity of the image.

.
This paper, presents an efficient method for MAP estimation
of images in the presence of blur and noise. The method uses
a piecewise stationaryGaussian prior. It also uses the concept
of the extension of a region to overcome the difficulties
inherent in LSI filtering while maintaining most of the
computational simplicity of the filtering approach. The
method maybe considered a generalization of Wiener and
inverse filtering,as the segmentation varies from the whole
image being a single region (Wiener filtering) to every pixel
being in its own region(inverse filtering). It uses wavelet
based methods for image denoising.
