Growing demand for water and energy in India is causing issues and challenges. Population growth and economic development are expected to increase energy and water usage. There is already a high level of water scarcity in India. Additionally, water resources are highly seasonal and unevenly distributed. This causes growing conflicts between different water users like agriculture, industry, and domestic sectors. Critical issues that need to be addressed include creating more water storage capacity, moving to a water resources management approach rather than a development approach, reducing groundwater overextraction, improving water supply infrastructure, and adopting integrated energy and water planning.
