IEP Independent Study Rationale & Expectations

5 criteria for independent study Used for reports and parents evenings. IEP sessions are a new way of working for most of you. Proves you are adult enough to cope with setting your own agenda. Reinforces habits that are useful higher up the school (IB +BTEC Programmes)
1. Self Awareness as language learner Ability to assess areas needing development Meaningfully use past assignments and subject material to inform your ideas brainstorm Not being reliant on teacher to ‘tell you what you have to do’ in your next IEP
2. Quality of Work Work done on IEPs is well presented and complete It is handed in on time. It is treated as serious work that is filed away systematically If work is not done, sufficient notice is given to extend deadlines.
3 Independence Student can work on their own without overt teacher direction. Student is able to tackle problems on their own before seeking help. Student seeks clarification/ information when necessary. Student is not distracted and makes use of own time to the full
4. Resourcefulness Student finds their own resources in order to extend themselves on a particular IEP target. Student uses a variety of materials – book based, online and software to fulfill the target. Student doesn’t just passively complete tasks
