Test Format
• All same listening and speaking
• Different reading and writing tests
• Listening, reading and writing sections are all completed on
the same day without any break
• Speaking- a week before or after the other tests ( 2 hours,
45 minutes
Test Format Listening
• Recording 1 – a conversation between two people
• Recording 2 - a monologue set in an everyday social context.
• Recording 3 – a conversation between up to four people set in an
educational or training context
• Recording 4 - a monologue on an academic subject
Evaluation
• Main idea
• Factual Information
• Opinions
• Purpose
• Attitude of speaker
• Evidence to support you’re the development of an idea
Listening Paper Format
• Four parts all with 10 questions
• 30 minutes ( 10 minutes transfer time)
• No of questions 40
• Multiple choice, matching,
plan/map/diagram/labelling/form/note/table/flowchart / summary completion/
sentence completion
• Poor spelling and grammar are penalized
Task type 1- Multiple Questions
• To test detailed understanding of specific points or
• An overall understanding of the main points of the listening text
• Number of questions varies
• Require to chose correction answer- from options A,B,C
• Sometimes more than one option
Task Type 2- Matching
• To test the ability to follow the conversation between two people
• Ability to recognize relationship and connections between facts
• Questions varies
• Match list of items
Task Type 3- Plan, Map, Diagram, Labelling
• Ability to describe a place
• Ability to relate visual representation
• Language expressing spatial relationships and directions
Task type 4- forms, note, table, flow-chart, Summary
completion
• fill in the gaps in an outline of part or of all of the listening text
• Should take care of number of words
• No more than two words or numbers
• Penalize writing more than the stated number of words
• Hyphenated words count a single word
• Contracted words will not be tested
Task Type 5- Sentence Completion
• Summarizing key information from all the listening text
• Fill the gap in each sentence using information from text
• Word limit is given
• Understand functional relationships such as cause and effect
Task type 6- Short question answers
• Write short answers using information from the listening text
• Word limit is given
• List two or three points
• Focuses on concrete facts, such as places, price, time
How test is marked?
• Certified markers
• Further analyzed by Cambridge assessment English
• Band score conversion table is produced
• Scores out of 40 into the IELTS 9- band scale
• Scores are reported in whole band or half bands
