Snapshot Of My Time-
Capsule
If all of the world´s cultural heritage (sports, music, fashion, architecture, literature,
painting, etc..) was contained in a time capsule, what would you include to
demonstrate the legacy of your country?
India is a land where diverse cultures and religions meet. It’s people believes in “unity in
diversity”. With the advent of the digital age, our lifestyles have become so fast that they we
have forgotten about our roots. Therefore a time capsule is a perfect way to revisit these
cultures and traditions which have played an important role in our country’s growth.
If I had to contain my country’s legacy in a time capsule I would include the following items:
a. The Indian Festivals
b. Indian Spices and Curries
c. Architectural heritage of the country
d. Paintings of Indian origin
e. Musicians and their music
f. Indian musical Instruments
g. Indian folk Dance forms
Diwali, the festival of lights is celebrated to mark the
return of Lord Ram along with his wife and younger
brother, to his kingdom after 14 years of exile. People
worship Goddess Laxmi- Goddess of Wealth and
Success, light their houses with oil filled lamps and burst
fireworks.
The festival of colors- Holi is
celebrated in India with much
exuberance. People apply color on
each other and play all day
throwing water balloons at each
other. In some parts of the country
people celebrate this festival with
flowers instead of colors. This
festival is celebrated due to many
reasons one of them is in
remembrance of Lord Krishna.
The Indian
Festivals
Durga Puja
Ganesh Chaturthi
Kumbh Mela
Durga the goddess of power
is worshiped in the month of
Ashwin according to Hindu
calendar (September or
October). It is celebrated
with frivolous devotion all
over India, especially in the
states of West Bengal and
Eastern India.
God Ganesh- the remover of obstacles is
always worshipped first in the Hindu
culture. Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten day
festival wherein people install the idol of
god Ganesh in their homes and worship
him for 10 days. On the last day, the idol
is immersed in a water body marking
that God is taking away all their troubles
with him. This festival is observed with
great merriment in the state of
Maharashtra.
Identified as the “World’s largest
congregation of religious pilgrims”
Kumbh mela is held once every
three years at three different
locations. Many people gather at
one of these places to bath in the
holy river of Ganga. The date is
determined by a certain position
of the Sun, the Moon and the
Jupiter.
Indian Spices and
Curries
India is a land with various spices at its disposal.
The Indian spices were once traded for goods
from other countries. It’s the spices of this
country which make the food here stand out
from the world.
Although a single country, each state of this country has
its own staple food.
The southern India has rice as its staple food.
To accompany that various curries with fish are
made. As the southern region of India is a
coastal area, the predominance of coconut can
be observed. Thus most curries here are based
on coconut flavor.
The western region of India is mainly dessert. In the
state of Rajasthan, where vegetation was less, the staple
food was based on grains and meat. Thereby one can
observe here that people can make various dishes in
which the core ingredient remains the same but the
taste varies significantly.
The state of Punjab which lies in the
Northern region of India is the land of
agriculture and farming. The food here is very
rich in nutritional value. As an agriculture
intensive land, people require high carb diet
hence the diet includes a lot of butter and
ghee.
West Bengal lies in the eastern part of India and is famous for
its fish-curry. Here fish is considered to be auspicious. Many
different kind of curries can be observed here.
It is also famous for its sweet dish called
rasgulla or roshogulla. These are sweet dollops
made by processing milk and dipping into
sweet sugar syrup.
Architectural Heritage

Raja Ravi Varma is the most feted painters of all time in India. He
converted the deities mentioned in the holy books of India such as
