This Learning and Design solution was presented to the faculty and students at UCSC Santa Cruz as a final project presentation on designing a training solution. This is a fictitious project which I created based where I visualized the challenges, goals, needs assessments and came up with the solution.

Learnings From the First Year of the OPNFV Internship ProgramOPNFV
Ray Paik, Linux Foundation, Serena Feng, ZTE
OPNFV launched its Internship program in Q1'2016, and there have been more than 10 interns around the world contributing to different OPNFV activities ranging from cross community CI, documentation, infrastructure, testing, etc. In this talk, there will be an overview of the OPNFV internship program that is different from more traditional internship programs and a discussion on areas for improvement that were identified. A community member who mentored two interns will also share her experience managing interns remotely and her advice for future interns & mentors. Finally, OPNFV interns will give a quick lightening round talk on their internship projects highlighting their contributions to the community. [NOTE: This is designed as a 60-minute session with interns' lightening round talks as 6-8 interns could be attending the OPNFV Summit. Presentations from Serena/Ray is expected to take about 20-25 minutes]
When the Fog Dissipates: A study on cross-cultural adjustment of internationa...Sejal Mehta
This paper presents the cross-cultural adjustment process for international students studying in the United States. A web-based survey was conducted at The Pennsylvania State University, the results were then discussed along with implications and recommendations to ease the tranistion. Adler's five-stage model of culture shock is also discussed.
I created this detailed Design Document when I co-taught an Instructional Design and Delivery class at UC Santa Cruz Extension Program. Amongst other topics I taught a module on “Writing instructional Objectives.” This module consisted of two lessons:
Lesson 1 – Instructional Objectives
Lesson 2 – Objectives and Training Activities
Based on the average Learners' profile, which in this case was:
- Adult Learners
- Little or no Instructional Design knowledge and experience
- Varying goals for taking the class; looking for career change / growth or changing job roles etc.
No training can be considered successful without a proper evaluation of the training from various perspectives. For a class project presentation, I created the following evaluation plan following Kirkpatricks Learning Evaluation Model.
Get The Job You Want - Training Design DocumentSejal Mehta
This document is a Design Document for a training "Get the Job You Want." This design plan follows each step of the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Evaluate, Implement). While working on this fictitious project, I tried to visualize the most effective learning experience for the participants; what would be their goals and how will this training meet those goals, how will I engage the participants, and how will their learning be assessed?
While taking a look at the training plan, few things to keep in mind:
- This plan was designed for for a proposed Instructor-led in class training
- The participants would be adults with basic skills needed (fullfil some pre-requisites)
- The proposed training consists of six sessions, but for the purpose of this assignment, only Session 1 "Creating an Effective Resume" has been designed and developed.
Empower your employees with modern learning communication and performance too...Human Capital Media
Join this informative session to hear how Debra Kellogg, manager of education, performance, and communications at Toshiba, built a next-generation employee portal for a global audience. Combining their LMS with modern e-learning courses, Kellogg developed the Toshiba Academy, the Toshiba Connect Communication Portal, and the company’s conversation-driven performance program, IGNITE!. You’ll learn how a very lean L&D team deployed these in the United States and Latin America in less than a year, along with tips on providing your learners with tools for success.
Learning Objectives/Session Takeaways:
Empower your employees with tools for success in today’s busy world.
Understand when and how to leverage partners' expertise to work more efficiently.
Gain ideas on how to deploy a coaching, learning, and goal-oriented culture!
Learn how to leverage today’s technology to meet tight budget and ROI training requirements.

The Blackboard Portfolio tool: Features, uses, and campus-wide implementation...Jason Rhode
The new Blackboard Portfolio tool released with Blackboard learn in April 2014 is much-improved and provides an easy-to-use platform for students to demonstrate and reflect upon what they have learned throughout their university career. Northern Illinois University (NIU) implemented the portfolios campus-wide during 2015, and it was used by thousands of students in a relatively short time. This presentation at BbWorld16 will provide an overview of the portfolio tool, strategies for developing portfolios that serve different purposes, and best practices for institutional adoption. Sample portfolios and exemplars from faculty who are using Blackboard portfolios in their classes will be shared, along with NIU’s campus-wide implementation process. Opportunities and challenges will be discussed to provide insights for others planning to roll-out portfolios at their institutions.
