India Post has been providing postal services since 1688 and has expanded to include over 1,30,000 rural post offices. In 1991, it began introducing computers to post offices to improve customer service and enable paperless transactions. From 2006-2012, 25,000 post offices were computerized. The India Post 2012 project aims to modernize all post offices through developing integrated software, establishing data centers, and connecting post offices through a nationwide network. This will help increase revenue, improve customer service, and support new lines of business through IT enablement. The project is expected to benefit customers through improved financial inclusion, and benefit employees through new skills and increased productivity.
