INTRODUCTION
In this introduction to construction industry, the final project. We are required to form a
group with a pair and we need to propose a site and develop it into either recreation area,
commercial area, residential area, industrial area, tourism area or argicultural area.
First of all, the site is located at 288E, Jalan Thean Teik Kampung Melayu 11500 Ayer Itam
Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. The site place is surrounded by residential area and primary school.
The right and left side of the site is surrounded by commercial area which include shop lot,
hotel, fish market, clinic, stationery shop, bank, bakery, laundry, tourism souvenir shop and
also dentist.. The size of our site is approximately around 50m x 60m. The rough
measurement of our site will be around 3000 square meters. The site will soon be develop
into the combination of recreation and parking area.
SITE PLAN
The site location is 288E, Jalan Thean Teik Kampung Melayu 11500 Ayer Itam Pulau
Pinang, Malaysia. The size of our site is approximately around 50m x 60m. The rough
measurement of our site will be around 3000 square meters.
LOCATION PLAN KEY PLAN
SITE OBSERVATION
The East view from site: A primary and a secondary school.
The South view from site: A hypermarket
The North view from site: some shop lots and residential area
The West view of site: Another empty land
Site Analysis
Light Intensity
The sunlight is sufficient for the whole morning until afternoon because in the surrounding
of the site has no tall building exceeding 7 floor so there is no sunlight blocked by the
building. Night is also have no worries about the darkness because of the site is located next
to the main road so it has lamppost along the road.
Ventilation
The site has wind flowing pretty well due to the low height of the surrounding building. The
wind flow from West site to the North and also to the direction of South.
Topography
The site is literally flat and no hilly for the entire area. The site is higher than the main road
about 1 meter. No water spot in that particular area.
Strength
Nearby this area at least has 7 coffee shop, 5 commercial building/ rows of shop lot,
stationery shop, a morning market, residential area, recreational parks, mosque and schools
which is very convenient for everything.
Weakness
There is too many shop lot and commercial building and also schools therefore the parking
space is always been not enough. During the peak hour, traffic jam will occur because users
parking their car along the roadside causing it very inconvenient.
PROPOSAL 2
PARKING + SPORTS
COMPLEX
(PREPARED BY LAW ZHI CHANG)
STUDENT ID: 0323813
Proposal
As there is lack of parking space and sport arena, the residents are
seldom having healthy exercise due to working times and yet there is no
proper space for the community to pursue physical fitness. The area is
also has too much conventional, school, residential area, markets and
hypermarket is the worse part from insufficient of parking space.
This proposal of mine is proposing multi storey of parking lot with shops
and sport arena on top of the building. The building is included 6 storey of
organised parking lot to solve the insufficient parking space problem and
the traffic jam as well, 1 swimming pool, 1 spa, 6 badminton court and 1
basketball arena. The purpose of the building is mainly providing a space
to gather people for relaxing, working out and recreational activities. The
place provide also a space for event holding, talks, and other functions for
healthy life style living and enhance interactive among neighbourhood.
Rationale
After looking at the advantages and impacts we brainstormed for
days on what we could create from this piece of land into something
spartacular. We had focused our land to be a:
Sport+Parking Complex
Concept
I found that there isn’t any sport complex and sufficient parking
spot at the area, hence I came out an idea to build an 8 storey building to
solve these problem that helps the community and also beneficial to the
developer.
On the design of the building, automated ticketing machine at the
entrance of the building which access to the parking lot. At the 7th
floor,
the whole area has been designed as shops and badminton arena. At the
roof top, it has been designed as the swimming pools, spa and the
basketball arena as well. The public facility and ultilities example like
toilets, food courts, food stalls ( located at the basketball arena ),
ticketing of the facility, booking offices, lockers, sauna and rest area.
The concept of the shop is designed for the sport facilities which is
selling swimming equipment, basketballs, shuttlecocks, badminton
rackets and etc. The shop is also included canteen with different variety
of food for refreshing before or after the exercises. Most importantly
isotonic drinks kiosk is distributed at the sports arenas.
The basketball arena is designed for basketball competition which
has a court in the centre and seats surrounded the court. Food stall and
kiosk can be found in this particular area.
The roof top is special designed enclosed area with glasses for the
whole roof top and side walls. It has 2 layers special designed glass 100%
UV reflection and 50% light permeable. The first layer is the outer wall of
the roof, in the middle is a hollow space for water to flow through and
the second layer would be the inner wall of the building. The design help
cooled down the internal room temperature and saving course for using
air-conditional/fans or ventilation vents which require huge amount of
electricity and produce loud sound to cool down the area. This design
allow sunlight to flow through helps to sanitise the pool and also allow
user to have a great view to the scenery of the area.
Propose Detail
1) Parking Complex
Parking complex is build to have a large amount of car parking in a
long period of time. It has meet the requirement of the citizen of the
area. It has the market and has a low cost maintainence but high
benificial potential. As the site analysis state that nearby area having
school residential, wet markets ,hypermarkets, conventional centre, shop
lots, mosque and also recreational parks. These all communities needed a
huge amount of parking space. Imaging every single Friday with the
prayers going to mosque and have the wet markets, and people shopping
at the hypermarket it would short of parking space surely and in the
condition that existed already show that the parking lot is highly
demanded.
Traffic Jam condition
1-6th
floor concept
Road Circulation
It was designed like is is because to prevent large amount of car
entering or exiting the site at the same time causing conjunction.
2) Swimming Pool
Swimming is a good sport for working mens espeacially office kind of
working lack of moving and walking. Swimming helps the whole body
relaxing and also working all the body muscle at a single time. Swimming
pool is very benificial in way of economy, it can be use by a lot of people
in a single time compare to badminton it has the potential to gain more
money in short term of time. The maintainence fee is also not an
enormous number as long as the pool is maintain correctly.
Child Pool Adult Pool
New Roof Cover Design
It is in the concept like this whenever the interior wanted to be
seen or letting the light shine in they would switch off the water flow
between the 2 glases and making it transparent and able to be looking
inside out to the great view of the area. When it is getting too hot or too
bright they would turn on the water flow and let the water cooling down
the room temperature and also blocking the sunlight. It was based on
water cooling design in the Computer as it is highly efficient and very
beatiful. By installing these cover up, it help cooling down and optional to
be blocking and unblocking the passing ray of the sun.
Visualysing the Roof Top of the pool site.
2.1) Spa and Sauna
Who wouldn’t like a spa massage after a swimming or a tired working.
Spa and sauna also has the potential market and providing good healthy
relaxation activities. Sauna rovide a good blood circulation and
detoxification.
3) Basketball Arena
It was not perfect a sport complex without a basketball arena.
Basketball competition is way more common to be seen in Malaysia these
day but there is no venue for this kind of competition. It has the most
profitable venue for both users and developers.
In the angle of users they would have a good views on any important
basketball competition in an enclosed comfy room rather than sit under
the hot sun and getting unwanted sunburned. It is also a good family
leisure activity to do so.
In the angle of the developer, it has high economy potential simply
having a competition by selling not only tickets but food and suvinior as
well confirm earning way more a lot. The rental fees from the basketball
competition authorities also would be a way from getting money. It is
also a good way to promote or advertising the company by well
maintining and good facility for the basketball court.
4) Badminton Courts
Badminton is a hot sport for Malaysian. We would never say no to
badminton, it is a patrotisme action by playing badminton. Badminton
is so famous in Malaysia must be thank to the starof Malaysia, Dato
Lee Chong Wei has been the proud of all Malaysian being the top 1st
man single player in the World.
A quality badminton court demand a high maintain fees however
this facility is for the public and the community to show the company
has a giving heart prepare to contribute best but not only taking profit
from the community. As a good badminton court it must be conceal
with strong air-movement and too high light intensity. The wall must
be painted in blue or green to comfort the eyes of the player and the
ventilation system must be well to prevent heat stroke or sufocating
problems.
Dato Lee Chong Wei
5) Shoplots and Food Court
Shoplots and food court are needed in a sport complex like this for
refreshment and equiment purchasing. Even repairing the equipment for
sport like badminton rackets or reporlishing the goggles.
Kiosk are also the important for selling refreshment like hotdog, isotonic
drinks, and etc.
Conceptual Ideas

floor concept
Benefit
In the angle of developer, it has high profitable potential due to the
demanding of the market and also the community. Good way to
advertising the company for the future purpose. Profiting with helping
the society is always the best benefit of all.
In the angle of end users, this would help the reducing of the road
accident due to the problem of traffic jam solved. It is also easier to find a
parking spot and save more time for the shopping or other activities. The
end users would gain more healthy living life style and also a better family
relation throughout these activities that the building provide.
Impact
By building this complex it has help a lot to the community.
Problem Solved
1) The traffic jam
2) The rate of accident in that particular area
3) Unhealthy living life style
4) Improving family bond
5) Creating great entertainment event
6) Time consumtion for finding parking space
7) Easy access to sport equipment
8) More leisure option
Architect
An architect is hired by a client to produce detailed designs of a concept
or idea that the client wants to bring to reality. Architect need to comply
with building and sfety regulations, local planing regulations and
restrictions. Depending on the project there may be laws surrounding the
preservation of the local environment or any historic parts of a building.
Regular client meetings are important to establish requirements and
discuss detailed design proposals. Heading up the team of professionals
who will work on this stage of the project including engineers, designers
and financiers is also essential.
During the documentation phase, the resposibilities are to producing
design, detailed drawings and using technology such as CAD to test the
feasibility of the design. Architect need to consider about client’s
requirements, budget and regulations. Once the design documents are
complete, thre are then a second set of documents that need to be
poduced.
These are the construction documents, which translate the design into
instruction and technical specifications for contractors and construction
experts to refer. Once the project reaches the construction stage, the
architect need to be involved in site visits and meetings, overseeing the
construction and signing off on various pieces of work, negotiating with
contractors and dealing with and resolving any problems that arise.
Quantity Surveyor
A quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to building and civil
engineering projects, form the initial calculations to the final figures.
Surveyors seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for
money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Many of
these are specified by statutory building regulations, which the surveyor
needs to understand and adhere to.
A quantity surveyor may work for either the client or the contractor,
working in an office or on site. They are involved in a project from the
start, preparing estimates and costs of the work.
When the project is in progress, quantity surveyors keep track of any
variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to
show profitability.
Supplier
A supplier is a supply chain management term that means anyone who
provide goods or services to a company or individuals. Supplier will supply
materials to the site. Supplier also need to ensure the quality of the
materials. A supplier is often the one who manufactures inventoriable
items, and sell those items. Supplier also need to ensure the installation
of the materials and equipment goes smoothly. Supplier also somethimes
recognized as a subcontractor because of their large contributions to a
project.
Civil & Structural Engineer
Structural engineers are primarily with designing aesthetically pleasing
buildings and structures that are safe and capable of withstanding the
elements to which they will be exposed. Key tasks of a C&S emgineer
includes preparing reports, designs and drawings, make calculations
about loads and stresses, providing technical advice. Unlike architects,
who must focus on the appearance, shape, size and use of the building.
Structural engineers must solve techinical problems and help the
architect achieve his or her vision for the project
Conclusion
After I collected, recorded and combined all of ours ideas and formed this
proposal, I had found that building a sport complex benefits the people a
lot, especially the residents living nearby.
This is a 50m x 60m sport complex is designed and build on purposes of
gathering people for refreshing, relaxation and recreation activities,
holding events and other functions and enhance interactive among
neighbourhood.
This sport complex benefits the people in the way on creating a chance
for people to exercise to keep them healthy.
I hope that this sport complex proposal will bring advantages to the
people and community around.

  • 1. FINAL PROJECT: THE PROJECT PROPOSAL INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES LAW ZHI CHANG 0323813 KENNETH TAN SIN KWANG 0322482 FNBE MARCH 2015 TUTOR: PN. HAS
  • 2. INTRODUCTION In this introduction to construction industry, the final project. We are required to form a group with a pair and we need to propose a site and develop it into either recreation area, commercial area, residential area, industrial area, tourism area or argicultural area. First of all, the site is located at 288E, Jalan Thean Teik Kampung Melayu 11500 Ayer Itam Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. The site place is surrounded by residential area and primary school. The right and left side of the site is surrounded by commercial area which include shop lot, hotel, fish market, clinic, stationery shop, bank, bakery, laundry, tourism souvenir shop and also dentist.. The size of our site is approximately around 50m x 60m. The rough measurement of our site will be around 3000 square meters. The site will soon be develop into the combination of recreation and parking area. SITE PLAN The site location is 288E, Jalan Thean Teik Kampung Melayu 11500 Ayer Itam Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. The size of our site is approximately around 50m x 60m. The rough measurement of our site will be around 3000 square meters. LOCATION PLAN KEY PLAN
  • 3. SITE OBSERVATION The East view from site: A primary and a secondary school. The South view from site: A hypermarket The North view from site: some shop lots and residential area The West view of site: Another empty land
  • 4. Site Analysis Light Intensity The sunlight is sufficient for the whole morning until afternoon because in the surrounding of the site has no tall building exceeding 7 floor so there is no sunlight blocked by the building. Night is also have no worries about the darkness because of the site is located next to the main road so it has lamppost along the road. Ventilation The site has wind flowing pretty well due to the low height of the surrounding building. The wind flow from West site to the North and also to the direction of South. Topography The site is literally flat and no hilly for the entire area. The site is higher than the main road about 1 meter. No water spot in that particular area. Strength Nearby this area at least has 7 coffee shop, 5 commercial building/ rows of shop lot, stationery shop, a morning market, residential area, recreational parks, mosque and schools which is very convenient for everything. Weakness There is too many shop lot and commercial building and also schools therefore the parking space is always been not enough. During the peak hour, traffic jam will occur because users parking their car along the roadside causing it very inconvenient.

  • 21. PROPOSAL 2 PARKING + SPORTS COMPLEX (PREPARED BY LAW ZHI CHANG) STUDENT ID: 0323813
  • 22. Proposal As there is lack of parking space and sport arena, the residents are seldom having healthy exercise due to working times and yet there is no proper space for the community to pursue physical fitness. The area is also has too much conventional, school, residential area, markets and hypermarket is the worse part from insufficient of parking space. This proposal of mine is proposing multi storey of parking lot with shops and sport arena on top of the building. The building is included 6 storey of organised parking lot to solve the insufficient parking space problem and the traffic jam as well, 1 swimming pool, 1 spa, 6 badminton court and 1 basketball arena. The purpose of the building is mainly providing a space to gather people for relaxing, working out and recreational activities. The place provide also a space for event holding, talks, and other functions for healthy life style living and enhance interactive among neighbourhood. Rationale After looking at the advantages and impacts we brainstormed for days on what we could create from this piece of land into something spartacular. We had focused our land to be a: Sport+Parking Complex
  • 23. Concept I found that there isn’t any sport complex and sufficient parking spot at the area, hence I came out an idea to build an 8 storey building to solve these problem that helps the community and also beneficial to the developer. On the design of the building, automated ticketing machine at the entrance of the building which access to the parking lot. At the 7th floor, the whole area has been designed as shops and badminton arena. At the roof top, it has been designed as the swimming pools, spa and the basketball arena as well. The public facility and ultilities example like toilets, food courts, food stalls ( located at the basketball arena ), ticketing of the facility, booking offices, lockers, sauna and rest area. The concept of the shop is designed for the sport facilities which is selling swimming equipment, basketballs, shuttlecocks, badminton rackets and etc. The shop is also included canteen with different variety of food for refreshing before or after the exercises. Most importantly isotonic drinks kiosk is distributed at the sports arenas. The basketball arena is designed for basketball competition which has a court in the centre and seats surrounded the court. Food stall and kiosk can be found in this particular area. The roof top is special designed enclosed area with glasses for the whole roof top and side walls. It has 2 layers special designed glass 100% UV reflection and 50% light permeable. The first layer is the outer wall of the roof, in the middle is a hollow space for water to flow through and the second layer would be the inner wall of the building. The design help cooled down the internal room temperature and saving course for using air-conditional/fans or ventilation vents which require huge amount of electricity and produce loud sound to cool down the area. This design allow sunlight to flow through helps to sanitise the pool and also allow user to have a great view to the scenery of the area.
  • 24. Propose Detail 1) Parking Complex Parking complex is build to have a large amount of car parking in a long period of time. It has meet the requirement of the citizen of the area. It has the market and has a low cost maintainence but high benificial potential. As the site analysis state that nearby area having school residential, wet markets ,hypermarkets, conventional centre, shop lots, mosque and also recreational parks. These all communities needed a huge amount of parking space. Imaging every single Friday with the prayers going to mosque and have the wet markets, and people shopping at the hypermarket it would short of parking space surely and in the condition that existed already show that the parking lot is highly demanded. Traffic Jam condition
  • 25. 1-6th floor concept Road Circulation It was designed like is is because to prevent large amount of car entering or exiting the site at the same time causing conjunction.
  • 26. 2) Swimming Pool Swimming is a good sport for working mens espeacially office kind of working lack of moving and walking. Swimming helps the whole body relaxing and also working all the body muscle at a single time. Swimming pool is very benificial in way of economy, it can be use by a lot of people in a single time compare to badminton it has the potential to gain more money in short term of time. The maintainence fee is also not an enormous number as long as the pool is maintain correctly. Child Pool Adult Pool New Roof Cover Design It is in the concept like this whenever the interior wanted to be seen or letting the light shine in they would switch off the water flow between the 2 glases and making it transparent and able to be looking
  • 27. inside out to the great view of the area. When it is getting too hot or too bright they would turn on the water flow and let the water cooling down the room temperature and also blocking the sunlight. It was based on water cooling design in the Computer as it is highly efficient and very beatiful. By installing these cover up, it help cooling down and optional to be blocking and unblocking the passing ray of the sun. Visualysing the Roof Top of the pool site. 2.1) Spa and Sauna Who wouldn’t like a spa massage after a swimming or a tired working. Spa and sauna also has the potential market and providing good healthy relaxation activities. Sauna rovide a good blood circulation and detoxification.
  • 28. 3) Basketball Arena It was not perfect a sport complex without a basketball arena. Basketball competition is way more common to be seen in Malaysia these day but there is no venue for this kind of competition. It has the most profitable venue for both users and developers. In the angle of users they would have a good views on any important basketball competition in an enclosed comfy room rather than sit under the hot sun and getting unwanted sunburned. It is also a good family leisure activity to do so. In the angle of the developer, it has high economy potential simply having a competition by selling not only tickets but food and suvinior as well confirm earning way more a lot. The rental fees from the basketball competition authorities also would be a way from getting money. It is also a good way to promote or advertising the company by well maintining and good facility for the basketball court.
  • 29. 4) Badminton Courts Badminton is a hot sport for Malaysian. We would never say no to badminton, it is a patrotisme action by playing badminton. Badminton is so famous in Malaysia must be thank to the starof Malaysia, Dato Lee Chong Wei has been the proud of all Malaysian being the top 1st man single player in the World. A quality badminton court demand a high maintain fees however this facility is for the public and the community to show the company has a giving heart prepare to contribute best but not only taking profit from the community. As a good badminton court it must be conceal with strong air-movement and too high light intensity. The wall must be painted in blue or green to comfort the eyes of the player and the ventilation system must be well to prevent heat stroke or sufocating problems. Dato Lee Chong Wei
  • 30. 5) Shoplots and Food Court Shoplots and food court are needed in a sport complex like this for refreshment and equiment purchasing. Even repairing the equipment for sport like badminton rackets or reporlishing the goggles. Kiosk are also the important for selling refreshment like hotdog, isotonic drinks, and etc.
  • 32. Benefit In the angle of developer, it has high profitable potential due to the demanding of the market and also the community. Good way to advertising the company for the future purpose. Profiting with helping the society is always the best benefit of all. In the angle of end users, this would help the reducing of the road accident due to the problem of traffic jam solved. It is also easier to find a parking spot and save more time for the shopping or other activities. The end users would gain more healthy living life style and also a better family relation throughout these activities that the building provide. Impact By building this complex it has help a lot to the community. Problem Solved 1) The traffic jam 2) The rate of accident in that particular area 3) Unhealthy living life style 4) Improving family bond 5) Creating great entertainment event 6) Time consumtion for finding parking space 7) Easy access to sport equipment 8) More leisure option
  • 33. Architect An architect is hired by a client to produce detailed designs of a concept or idea that the client wants to bring to reality. Architect need to comply with building and sfety regulations, local planing regulations and restrictions. Depending on the project there may be laws surrounding the preservation of the local environment or any historic parts of a building. Regular client meetings are important to establish requirements and discuss detailed design proposals. Heading up the team of professionals who will work on this stage of the project including engineers, designers and financiers is also essential. During the documentation phase, the resposibilities are to producing design, detailed drawings and using technology such as CAD to test the feasibility of the design. Architect need to consider about client’s requirements, budget and regulations. Once the design documents are complete, thre are then a second set of documents that need to be poduced. These are the construction documents, which translate the design into instruction and technical specifications for contractors and construction experts to refer. Once the project reaches the construction stage, the architect need to be involved in site visits and meetings, overseeing the construction and signing off on various pieces of work, negotiating with contractors and dealing with and resolving any problems that arise.
  • 34. Quantity Surveyor A quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, form the initial calculations to the final figures. Surveyors seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Many of these are specified by statutory building regulations, which the surveyor needs to understand and adhere to. A quantity surveyor may work for either the client or the contractor, working in an office or on site. They are involved in a project from the start, preparing estimates and costs of the work. When the project is in progress, quantity surveyors keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability. Supplier A supplier is a supply chain management term that means anyone who provide goods or services to a company or individuals. Supplier will supply materials to the site. Supplier also need to ensure the quality of the materials. A supplier is often the one who manufactures inventoriable items, and sell those items. Supplier also need to ensure the installation of the materials and equipment goes smoothly. Supplier also somethimes recognized as a subcontractor because of their large contributions to a project.
  • 35. Civil & Structural Engineer Structural engineers are primarily with designing aesthetically pleasing buildings and structures that are safe and capable of withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed. Key tasks of a C&S emgineer includes preparing reports, designs and drawings, make calculations about loads and stresses, providing technical advice. Unlike architects, who must focus on the appearance, shape, size and use of the building. Structural engineers must solve techinical problems and help the architect achieve his or her vision for the project
  • 36. Conclusion After I collected, recorded and combined all of ours ideas and formed this proposal, I had found that building a sport complex benefits the people a lot, especially the residents living nearby. This is a 50m x 60m sport complex is designed and build on purposes of gathering people for refreshing, relaxation and recreation activities, holding events and other functions and enhance interactive among neighbourhood. This sport complex benefits the people in the way on creating a chance for people to exercise to keep them healthy. I hope that this sport complex proposal will bring advantages to the people and community around.
