Webinar: An overview and explanation of the creation of the communication res...Global CCS Institute
'What happens when CO2 is stored underground' is a very useful guide for those at the frontline, communicating and educating the public about CO2 and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology.
The booklet provides simple answers to some of the most frequently asked questions around CCS, all grounded in the experience, and extensive research results, of the IEAGHG Weyburn-Midale CO2 Monitoring and Storage program – an internationally significant research program that operated in Saskatchewan, Canada from 2000-2012.
This webinar provided opportunity to join lead author, Norm Sacuta from the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) and Kirsty Anderson from the Global CCS Institute, as they gave an overview of the resource, and discuss the findings from a review process that involved community stakeholder focus groups and a communication expert review panel.
The webinar was designed to be an interactive medium and questions from the audience were actively encouraged.
This presentation is based on one of my previous training held in Navi Mumbai, India from 18 January to 21 February, 2015. The training program was jointly organized by- Department of Atomic Energy, India(DAE) & Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL). The Title of the training was: “Foundation Course on Nuclear Energy (FCNE)”. I was create my this presentation from that FNCE training module. All of the training slide was develop by DAE & NPCIL.

In these winter months especially, please take special caution to your surroundings. Slips, Trips, and Falls are very common occurrences, especially with ice on the ground. Remember Safety First!
Here is the latest FAQs for the OPM Data Breach, provided by the Department of the Navy. As the OPM Data Breach is under federal investigation, this is an ongoing document that will continue to be updated as more information becomes available. Current questions/answers may be found at www.opm.gov.
Summary - In April 2015, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) became aware of a cybersecurity incident affecting its systems and data that may have compromised the personal information of current and former federal employees. The breach pre-dates OPM’s adoption of tougher security controls.
Since the incident was identified, OPM has partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to determine the impact to current and former to Federal personnel.
Between June 8 and June 19, OPM will send notifications to those individuals whose personal information may have been compromised. OPM estimates that up to 4 million individuals may have been impacted.
In the course of the ongoing investigation into the cyber intrusion that compromised personnel records of current and former federal employees (announced June 4), it was discovered that additional OPM systems were compromised. These systems contain information related to background investigations. OPM, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are working as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the number of people affected by this separate intrusion. OPM will notify those individuals whose information may have been compromised as soon as practicable.
OPM will offer impacted individuals 18 months of credit monitoring services and identity theft insurance through CSID® – a company that specializes in identify theft protection and fraud resolution. The 18-month CSID® membership will be offered to those individuals identified by OPM at no cost.
Since the investigation is on-going, additional exposures may come to light; if this occurs, OPM will conduct additional notifications as necessary.

Welding the Welders:Community of Practice Workshop Joins Nuclear, Non-nuclear Welders
Welding. While the typical
definition of the word at Norfolk
Naval Shipyard (NNSY) is to join
metals together by applying heat, it
can also mean to bring two things
into union or close association
with one another. That second
meaning was the recent goal of
the shipyard’s Nuclear Welding
Community Performance Event.
This event aimed to integrate
NNSY’s nuclear and non-nuclear
communities into a unified,
effective Community of Practice.
Employing Learning Organization
principles, the workshop, held
Aug. 19-22, encouraged candid
discussion of the welding
challenges across the shipyard
among the subject matter experts,
with participants subsequently
identifying ways to mitigate and
eliminate those obstacles. There
were even occasional moments
of levity, as evidenced by the
group name (“Raiders of the Lost
Arc”) addressing the occasional
lack of communication between
engineering and the welding
community during planning.
Mitch King, NNSY’s Quality
Assurance Director, Code 130,
and Tim Jacks, NNSY Structural
Group Superintendent, Code
920, addressed the shipyard’s
most pressing priorities in
welding, including training and
developing highly qualified
welders, eliminating rework and
providing support to one another
when needed. King pointed out
when these objectives are met,
NNSY is able to provide timely
delivery of the Navy’s ships and
submarines so they can return to
service. Reflecting on the overall
effectiveness of the event, King
said, “The most important thing
gained is the building of the team
with a common vision of being the
best nuclear welding program.”
Jeff Saniano, Code 920 Acting
Nuclear Director, said the
workshop provided an important
opportunity to discuss the obstacles
inhibiting first-time quality, and
addressing the “big picture”
issues. He said joining the Welding
Community of Practice (WCOP) is
an important step in the continued
development of NNSY’s nuclear
welding program. “The WCOP
was established in 2012 and has
accomplished many goals and
made improvements for the non-
nuclear side of the house,” he said.
“The WCOP is the vehicle we
will use now to get action items
accomplished from the [workshop]
to improve the nuclear side. I am
confident in our team and our
capabilities.”
In the event’s outbrief with
shipyard leadership, then
Shipyard Commander Capt.
Mark Bridenstine discussed the
importance of Continuous Training
and Development for welders and
ensuring first-time quality. He
challenged the welding community
to re-purpose proven processes
when applicable and brainstorm
new ideas when possible. “What
processes are [the other shipyards]
using? Are there corporate
equivalents? Go explore that;
it doesn’t have to be invented
at NNSY. [But] keep thinking
about what we can do better and
different!”
