The document discusses the new Community Information Systems (CIS) program at Zefat Academic College in Israel. The program aims to (1) consider the multicultural facets of communities and empower developing communities through technology, and (2) develop skills to evaluate the social consequences of information systems and experience designing socio-technical systems. The CIS curriculum includes foundations in information technology, information systems, and computer science, as well as supporting areas like the knowledge society and information in organizations. The computer science track is tailored for non-computer science majors to develop an understanding of computing principles without extensive programming syntax.

The B.A. Program in Community Information Systems as a Bridge between the Ult...Dalit Levy
The increasing interest among different communities of practice in integrating human and social considerations into traditional IS curricula has led to the development of new academic programs around the globe, aimed at establishing a framework within which students develop analytical skills to identify and evaluate the social consequences of IS, and gain experience in the socio-technical process of designing IS. An undergraduate program developed at an Israeli college in light of these global trends is presented, focusing on how the program might serve as a bridge between the ultra-orthodox and the high-tech communities surrounding the ancient city of Zefat in northern Israel.

Education and learning is probably that single phenomenon that has the greatest impact on humans and societies, in particular in a long-term perspective (OECD 2014).
Grand challenge number one is to breach the trend preventing developing countries, in particular South of Everyone aspiring for higher education should have the right to affordable access. The purpose of our paper is to share the experiences of DCPL’s pilot digital skills project, based in inner city Dublin, and to show that it is possible to establish a digital skills project which is consciously inclusive and can accommodate children and young people with differing learning abilities as well as different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
The national strategy Our Public Libraries 2022 emphasises the role that libraries can play in bridging the digital divide in Ireland. Libraries are ideally placed to deliver the necessary digital skills and to access the technology that is imperative for participation in the digital society.
In terms of the outreach activities, we identified the CoderDojo model as being the most suitable method of delivering digital skills to a diverse group on an on-going basis. We work with DEIS schools and community groups, such as those who work with children in direct provision, to recruit participants for whom the experience would be most beneficial and empowering. By providing a familiar space within the area, the aim is to make digital learning accessible and welcoming.
We consciously cultivate a family-friendly environment for our Saturday “Dojo”, encouraging accompanying parents to make use of the library’s facilities and bring along younger siblings. For our mid-week, “Teen Dojo”, teens are introduced to project-based work, where outputs include tangible results, which keep teens engaged as what is being learned has ‘real world’ applications.
Our experience with respect to the learning approaches used and the communities’ reception to the providing of digital learning opportunities to children in areas with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds has multiple implications, including what value can be found in self-directed learning with this particular cohort and what benefits that exposing these children to the skills necessary for the future of work can be had.
Global social problems and policy challenges are widely thought to be covered by international social work. Using a multi-perspective approach that takes into account global, human rights, environmental, and social development perspectives. The project aims to assist social workers, human service professionals, development practitioners, and others in dealing with current world issues. International social work aids in the resolution of difficulties in human interactions and promotes societal change where it is needed. It increases people's quality of life by enhancing their well-being and meeting their requirements. International social work explores new requirements and assesses problems that individuals in different nations face on a daily basis.

Collaboratve Conceptual Change : The Case of RecursionDalit Levy
The paper tries to shed some light on the conceptual development of computer-science concepts by discussing recursion as an interdisciplinary idea and by analyzing the class discourse during an introductive learning activity. Throughout the inductive analysis of the discourse, the students’ expressions were interpreted, refined, and formulated as ‘preconceptions’. After a short theoretical and methodological background (in Secs. 2 and 3), we present these pre-conceptions, suggest an organizing model of conceptual change, and discuss certain implications concerning the issue of understanding recursion by high school students and of the collaborative development of such understanding.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

“Program…or Be Programmed”
Rushkoff, 2010
Students in IS programs in general, and in an interdisciplinary
program such as CIS in particular, should study fundamental CS
courses in order to acquire the needed broad foundation in
computing and consider its breadth of application.
But How?
• CS track tailored for non-CS majors
• Develop an understanding of the principles and practices of computing
• Program without drowning in syntax
• Expose students to CS potential for transforming the world

Alternatives to ‘Java first’:
Alice, Processing, Python, Scheme/Racket, Scratch/BYOB
Start with simpler syntax; Motivate with graphics.

Design Recipe: Function
Most importantly, PBD offers design recipes to lead
beginner students through a sequence of steps in order to:
(a) obtain an understanding of the problem's nature
(b) design the solution
The design of a function proceeds in several steps:
1 Signature (contract) and purpose.
2 Define examples (test using check-expect).
3 Template and Inventory.
4 Code the function body.
5 Test and debug until working.

Since ‘Program by Design’ also includes support for
transitioning to OOP and libraries for using design recipes as
part of Java IDE, the second course in the computer science
track builds naturally on the first while further focusing on
the systematic design of programs and classes
