Isaiah has a vision of being called as a prophet. He sees God on a heavenly throne and angels calling out "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord." Isaiah is overwhelmed by God's holiness and his own sinfulness. One of the angels touches Isaiah's mouth with a burning coal, cleansing him. God then asks "Whom shall I send?" Isaiah volunteers. God commissions Isaiah to preach to the people, but warns that they will not listen or understand as judgment for their sins. The judgment will last until the land is desolate. Still, a remnant will remain as a holy seed.
