SAM is alone in their house one evening when they begin hearing three quick knocks at the front door. Looking through the peephole, no one is there. The knocking continues at the back door and then upstairs. SAM searches the entire house but finds nothing. The knocking grows louder and does not stop. SAM curls up terrified as the knocking moves to the bathroom. With shaking hands, SAM opens the bathroom cabinet and screams. The camera pans past SAM's corpse covered in blood with a message in blood on the bath that reads "I Did Knock."
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

EXT. HOUSE - EVENING
A house in the middle of a quiet and empty street. the
streetlights are on with the one of the lights on the
bottom floor on.
CUTS TO:
INT. INSIDE OS THE HOUSE - EVENING
SAM, lying down on the sofa, alone in the house and
wearing their pyjamas. They are watching the television
which is placed on the other side of the room.
Three quick knock are heard from the front door, causing
SAM to rise from their position to them standing up and
walking across the living room to the front door at a
slow pace before looking through the eye hole to see no
one is there.
SAM
(steps away from the door
slowly, talking to
themselves)
Probably just kids.
SAM walking back to the sofa they were originally lying
in and continues to go back to watch the program on the
television. As SAM gets into a comfortable position, the
door knocks three more times, as the same pace as the
last three knocks.
SAM
(rolls eyes before stand up
again but quicker this time,
signing before mumbling)
For the love of God.
When SAM walks to the door again, looking back into the
eye hole, no one is there. SAM unlocks the door and looks
outside to see no one is there.
SAM
(poking their head out of the
door, looking left to right.
Their voice raised)
Hello?…Anyone there?
With no reply, SAM closes the door and locking it. They
walk back into the living, placing the keys on the table,
next to the window but before they get the chance to sit
down again, they hear three more knocking, but from the
back door.
3. .2
SAM freezes and looks at the kitchen door before quickly
running to the table to grab the keys and heads for the
backdoor.
They unlock the backdoor and steps outside, walking
behind their house.
SAM
(Looking left to right,
shouting)
HELLO!
But there is no reply. SAM heads back inside and locks
the door behind them. As soon as they lock the door,
three more knocks are heard but lower, quieter and coming
from up stairs.
SAM’s face becomes scared and immediately runs to and up
the stairs to see four closed doors. Each time SAM opens
a door, the knocking will stop for a couple of seconds
before the more knocking is heard from the next door.
Each time SAM opens the door, their faces becomes more
horrified. The knocking doesn’t stop causing SAM to walk
into each bedroom, opening any wardrobes to reveal
nothing. Instead of just three knocks, a knock of knocks
from different pitches and volumes.
SAM walks out of the last room but still upstairs.
SAM
(voice cracking as they
shout, trembling where they
standing)
GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!
The knocking doesn’t stop.
SAM
(covering their ears)
STOP IT!
The loud knocking continues.
FADES TO BLACK:
Cuts to a wide shot, panning to SAM curled up on the
floor, in the living room, with their legs covering their
face. The knocking has stopped now and the television has
turned to static. Annoyed by the static sound, SAM
reaches out to turn the television off before going back
into their crouching position.
SAM
(raises their head and
whispers)
Jesus Christ… its finally stopped.
4. .3
2 seconds of silence, before three knocks are heard. With
each knock, it gets louder. The camera will cut from a
wide-shot, mid-shot and finally a close up of SAM’s
frightened expression.
SAM unwraps themselves looking at the door that leads to
the stairs. They stand up, standing close to the wall as
they walk closer.
Looking up the stair, SAM jumps as three more loud knocks
are heard. They hold onto the banister as they walk up
stairs, taking their time. When they reach the top of the
stairs, three more loud knocks are heard. Coming from the
bathroom.
SAM opens the bathroom door and looks at cabinet behind
the bathroom door. Three more knocks. They raise their
shaking hands to the hand and slowly opens the door
peaking through the door before pulling it open and
screams, fading to black.
FADE IN:
As the camera fade back in, the camera pans past the
SAM’s corpse, covered in blood. As the camera continues
to pan, there is blood on the bath that reads out ‘I Did
Knock’. The camera pans to the bathroom door and slams
shut.
