- 2. + Summary of the hypodermic needle model This theory is a model of communications between the sender and receiver through mass media. The idea of the model is that the portrayal of a message is accepted by the reader in the correct way. It can refer to communicating ideas to a passive audience and it can show the way audience accepts or reacts to the ideas which are being displayed. The mass media uses this theory in order to communicate messages in a way to trigger a desired response from the audience as it can be a powerful way to change a persons interpretation of an idea. The idea of the ‘needle; is that the sender of the message is aiming to inject a variety of ideas and beliefs into the audiences mind.
- 3. + How it is used within music The hypodermic needle model can have an effect through music videos to communicate certain values to a specific audience to portray an intended message. For example in music videos within the RnB genre the idea of sexualisation of females can be demonstrated through the artist being around many females who are viewed as inappropriately dressed or having a sexual nature. This will then convey that male artists in the RnB genre can be perceived as a bad influence to the younger generation as people will think they have negative values towards females. In addition recreational drugs use is a big part of this culture and when this is shown within music videos it can communicate to certain audiences (most likely to be older generations) that the artists are criminals.
