What is the Difference?
 Hyphens are used to create one word out of two words
 Dashes are used to insert information into a sentence
 Dashes are also double the length of hyphens
Hyphens

 This idea is called a compound adjective
 Examples:
 The library at SUU is state-of-the-art.
 I enjoy eating chocolate-covered strawberries.
 I have a two-year-old child.
Hyphens Cont.
 Hyphens are used with numbers for spans or estimates
 Also used to write out whole numbers
 Examples:
 3:00-4:00
 He studied for forty-five minutes.

prefix, is the same as the starting letter or letters in the root word
 Examples:
 He wanted to re-read his homework.
