Human Performance (HP) refers to how people perform their work throughout the aviation system and how they can both enable risks and help manage risks. HP is informed by Human Factors, which applies knowledge of human abilities and limitations to job and equipment design. Key areas of HP work include safety data analysis, change management, fatigue management, safety of automated systems, risk management, and training. Foundational HP concepts encompass human performance principles, human-centred design, and systems thinking. The ICAO manual on HP supports regulators in taking approaches that help people in aviation do their jobs safely.
