Gay Marriage Timeline
Over the years it was more of a realistic possibility that there were always gay couples who
thought of or desired of getting married someday. The only difference between the past and the
future regarding this subject was the fact that gay couples were much rarer or it was much more
hidden. But now this issue with no doubt has become a great controversy for the past years after
many individuals started demanding their gayrights. According to usatoday Timeline The subject
started to arise once gay couples spoke up but it mostly became a controversy when the number
of cases started to grow. With time gay couple were becoming less rare which meant more gay
couples wanted to marry their partner. As a result, to this change it became a conflict especially
when states such as Maryland banned same sex marriages. That was when it became clear that
not everybody would agree to such change. As of now according to Governing.com it seems like
37 states including California allow gay marriages. So it seems as of now the State governments
are the ones dealing with this problem. Although, its seems like progress is being made the issue

46 percent disagreed. Among the 46 percent who disagreed most of them stated that the reason
they disagreed was because most of them believed the federal government should be the one
dealing with the problem. Something I did find interesting was the fact that most of the people
who were part of the 46 percent where people who supported gay marriages. I saw comments that
stated that there should be no hate or discrimination that why not just let the whole country
legalize same sex marriages and just put a stop to this problem and a stop to making gay peoples

Classroom Reflection Paper
In the classroom where I am doing student teaching I have observed students utilizing a science
notebook only three times in the school year so far. Some schools have clusters, while other schools
integrate science into their curriculum through other subject such as reading and writing.
According to one teacher, the students receive scienceinstruction through STEM, which creates
more of a focus for her teaching in social studies instead of science. At my assigned school, the
students receive instruction in their native language in science one day and social studies the
next. Most teachers put a lot of planning into ELA and math, but not a lot of planning into the
science lessons that are part of the curriculum. Part of my belief that science isn t taught at the
same level as other subjects is that teachers don t feel confident enough when it comes to different
science topics. When reading Chapter 7 of The Essentials of Science and Literacy I was able to
realize important practices when it comes to science instruction that are not being implemented in
the classroom. As a part of the classroom there are many good practices that I observe from my
cooperating teacher. However, I believe that no general educationteacher provides perfect
instruction in every subject.
The science notebook has several key purposes within a classroom. According to the article, the
science notebook is the ongoing record of the thinking and the process of a scientific inquiry.
Without a written record, it makes it hard for students to recall at the top of their head their
findings from the day before. A science notebook creates opportunities for students not only to
engage in the process of scientific inquiry, but also to reflect upon their learning. What I like most
about the science notebook is the integration of skills because even though the focus is not on
writing, a science notebook allows students to use several skills in the context of science. When
asking students to produce any form of assessment, there must also be some kind of feedback given
to students in order to help them grow and deepen their understanding of the topic.

Summary Of Poem In Just By Ee Cummings
E.E Cummings distinctive style in poetry gives readers the opportunity to interpret his work in
various ways. His satirical approach challenges modern society to go against the grain and construe
his work how they individually view it. His fascination with nature allows him to create an
unpredictable yet vivid storyline for readers. Cummings use of allegory and symbolism in his poem
[in Just ] contributes to his intention of allowing readers to think for themselves.
In the poem, the speaker begins by setting the scene. It is springtime and that is all we know, but
with just that minor detail, readers can envision nice weather, a sunny day, and an overall
beautiful scenery. The speaker continues by adding more details to the scenery. When the world is
mud /luscious the little/lame balloonman... Now we are provided with mud and a balloonman.
More often than not, when there is mud there are either children or animals around. In this case,
we learn that it is in fact children playing around having a splendid time in mud. It seems typical
that kids are enjoying the weather while getting dirty, but then there is a balloonman that is
presented. The balloonman seems to be slightly disabled as he is referred to as the little lame
balloonman with the term lame meaning he has a limp when he walks. It seems odd that there is a
person with a limp that is presented in such an environment that the speaker previously depicted.
The balloonman appears to be content with himself as he is whistling and minding his own business.
The speaker then introduces readers to two boys eddieandbill . The names are not bothered
being separated because the speaker wants to emphasize the close relationship between the two.
The lack of spacing between the names exudes that the boys have a two peas in a pod kind of
bond. Throughout the poem, the speaker constantly reminds us that it is spring and adds more
details to the setting. The repetition of the time of the year being spring grants readers the idea
that this is important and a wonderful season. The world is referred to as puddle wonderful in the
middle of the poem and it appears that the poem is beginning to pick up. The balloon man is an
oddball. The spotlight appears to be on

Person Centred Approaches to Counselling- Creating a Safe...
Introduction A safe space for a client could be described as a place or space in which a client
feels secure and free to express him/herself in a real, true and open way. This could mean a
number of things to different clients, it is very individual. What makes a person feel safe? The
list could include some or all of the following; Not feeling judged or criticised by the counsellor or
that the counsellor is likely to not accept you if you share something bad Feeling that the counsellor
accurately understands you, what you are saying or trying to say and what you are feeling or
experiencing Feeling that the counsellor is true and genuine in the relationship, his/her real self

Many people will go to therapy because they have had previous bad or traumatic relationships
which have left them damaged or traumatised in some way, quite often these relationships were
with their parents when they were children. They have learned the danger and not to trust the very
people they believed should most be trusted. I believe it can be even more fundamental and
damaging than this still, they have also learned not to trust in themselves to have the ability to
know who is safe to trust or not. The relationship with the therapist then can become something like
a re parenting or a re learning of how a trusting relationship should/could have been with one s
parents. Most people will agree that parents should (in a perfect world) give their children
unconditional positive regard, empathy and be relatively non judgemental with them, also show
them respect and allow them to keep their dignity. Unfortunately this is not always the case. It is
therefore even more important that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client show
all these things to the highest of degrees. However, if this aspect of trust and safety is not present
it can actually do more harm than good to clients that are already vulnerable and anxious. It can, in
fact be retraumatising and compound their possible views of themselves as being unlovable or
unworthy etc,

The Invasion Of Normandy The Allied Forces
Following the invasion of Normandy the Allied forces were able to roll without significant
opposition through France, liberating Paris in July 1944. Bradley s 12th Army Group
consisting of VIII Corps and 3rd Army moved south and held the southern half of the West Wall
. In the north, Montgomery s 21st Army Group, UK, consisting of XXX Brigade (UK), 1st
Army, 9th Army, 2nd Army, and 1st Army (CAN), maintained the north side of the West Wall .
(EVIDENCE BASED RESEARCH INC VIENNA VA Sugarman, 2006, p. 14) The Allied forces

The Allied forces were caught by surprise and unable to leverage their air assets due to heavy
snow storms in the Ardennes. The storm front effectively hindered both forces. On the northern
shoulder, Germany s 6th Panzar Division pushed forward attacking American positions on
Elsenborn Ridge and Losheim Gap. Deitrichs men were committed to battle, having met heavy
resistance from the United States 2nd and 99th Infantry Divisions. The smaller inferior Allied
force was able to significantly delay the German advance, quite possibly the most decisive actions
of the Ardennes campaign. Hasso von Manteuffel s 5th Panzar was successful in the center,
opening a gap between the 28th and 106th Infantry Divisions. Germans 5th Panzar s advancement
was able to surround two regiments of the 106th Division, forcing their surrender. Manteuffels and
Deitrichs forces were significantly challenged in the town of St. Vith. The Allied forces
successfully defended the road junction, holding the position until ordered to evacuate on 21
December. These actions resulted in further set backs for the German force. Additionally,
Mantueffel s forces moved toward St. Vith and Bastogne, where they met heavy resistance,
delaying their progress for several days. By December 22nd the weather began to clear which
allowed Allied aerial support. On the 23rd of December the Allied forces

Rhetorical Analysis On Cesar Chavez

migrant farm workers. It is people like Cesar Chavez that give people hope to continue,
regardless of the situation. Cesar Chavez is also remembered for all of his very powerful
speeches that made a difference in this world for Mexican Americans. For instance, in his address
to the Commonwealth Club of California, Cesar Chavez used diction and different types of
rhetorical appeals and details to help change American history for Hispanics in order for them to
gain better pay and working conditions. Cesar Chavez was born on March 31st, 1927 in Yuma,
Arizona to immigrant parents. Throughout his youth, Cesar grew up watching his parents work all

bargaining table and not as peons in the field is a fraud. It means that thousands of farm workers
who are owed millions of dollars in back pay because their employers broke the law are still waiting
for their checks. It means that 36,000 farm workers who voted to be represented by the United
Farm Workers in free elections are still waiting for contracts from growers who refuse to bargain
in good faith. In this part of his speech, Cesar Chavez used the rhetorical devise called anaphora,
which is when one repeats a word or a phrase in successive phrases. This rhetorical device makes
the audience pay closer attention to what Cesar has to say, because they are anticipating what he is
going to say next. This, without a doubt, benefitted Cesar Chavez, in a way that he had his

Descriptive Essay On Cowboys Play
Don t be surprised if u see #57 flying around the field always around the ball making tackles on
Thursday. Wilson is a tackling machine who has a nose for the football. Backup behind Sean
Lee on Will linebacker spot. He s been compared to last year s fourth round pick Anthony
Hitchens, but a better version of Hitchens (which is no knock to Hitchens because he s a good
player.) Athletic and versatile player who uses his length extremely well to avoid blocks off his
body at certain angles that way he can flow towards the ball without getting hung up on blocks.

second play he s lined up at as the right cornerback, third play he s lined up as nickel cornerback,
fourth play he s lined up at free safety spot in base defense, and the fifth play he s lined up as a
linebacker who covers the tight end. Whew that s a lot for a rookie who s just now coming into
NFL yet alone hasn t played down of football in NFL yet. But to his credit he s so smart and
versatile that he s able to take whatever the coaching staff dishes out to him. Long arms
cornerback who has speed, athleticism, and quickness. Jones can cover athletic tight ends because
of his size, and speed as well as playing tight man coverage while being able to stay with his man.
What I will be looking for during game is how well he will be able to cover these NFL wide
receivers. If he gets beat on a play does he mail it in and continue to get beat? Or does he shake it
off and goes makes a play the next time he s targeted. If I was a betting man I would go with the

Cowside Beck Discharge Analysis
Introduction Hillslopes are incredibly important as they cover the vast majority of United
Kingdoms (UK) upland landscapes. In sight of this, an aim in this project was to analyse the
slope profiles of the valley system around Cowside Beck. Not only do hillslope processes have
influence on the formation and aesthetics of UK upland areas, fluvial processes also have high
significance, leading another aim in this project to be able to ascertain the discharge of Cowside
Beck using the velocity area method. Method We used the velocity area method as discharge is
calculated by the product of the cross sectional area of the water and its velocity. The discharge of
cowside beck was calculated after the initial data collection. To calculate the... Show more content

A stratified sampling method was chosen due to the changes in the hillslope profiles being
localised in areas over small intervals, this method was efficient and representative of the full
range of changes. A limitation of this method is that choosing the sections was subjective, in
order to decrease the subjectivity and any bias that may be present, the same person chose the
sections each time. Time was one of the main constraints in this enquiry therefore we chose to
use the clinometer tape method rather than levelling all the way up the hillslope as it was a
much simpler approach and took less time to set up and undertake. In some narrow sections the
hillslope had a small angle, being almost flat, an explanation for this is the area of Cowside Beck
is a popular tourist destination for walkers so footpaths were present. In some of the sample
sections, no evidence of mass movement was observed. However in other areas, mass
movement is the key to understanding the shape of the hillslope. Numerous sample sites
contained terracettes, which is an explanation for the slope having concavities and convexities
in close proximity to each other. These landforms are formed by the mass movement process of
soil creep. Soil creep is a very slow process that occurs when the underlying rock becomes
saturated and in turn causing the soil to become saturated. Often the hillslope is steep so the soil
cannot remain stable and gets thrust away from the slope. The material expands due to processes
of freezing, heating and water action and the soil slowly creeps downhill due to gravity. The
concentration of the terracettes in the earlier sites nearer to the river can be explained by the
water table lying some distance up the hillslope so the river lies below the water table. This causes
the soil in this area to become more saturated and heavier hence more soil

Essay On Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action was implemented as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 authorized under
President Lyndon B. Johnson s executive order 11246, and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The quota based system was enacted to close the gap
between white male privilege and all ethnic minority groups to include women, homosexuals, the
disabled as well as the elderly in attempt to rid professional institutions like businesses and
universities of prejudice discrimination. In its 50 year history, much debate remains on whether the
success of the program has actually aided in breaking down barriers or simply created a reverse
discrimination paradox that disparages white males. As a result of this controversial... Show more

Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802, obligating defense contractors not to discriminate against
any worker because of race, creed, color, or national origin but the term Affirmative actionwas not
used until the Kennedy administration in the year 1961, only a few short years before the
implementation of Johnson s EO 11246. Along the way Affirmative Action was the center of much
national attention as it was often seen as harboring and fueling white resentment from ethnic
minorities causing reverse discrimination. In the year 1978, the resentment of whites caught wave
in a Supreme Court case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke. The case stated that
Affirmative Action created a reverse discrimination thus disparaging white youth from the same
level of opportunity in the college application process. As a result, the Supreme Court upheld
affirmative action, allowing race to be one of several factors in college admission policy. Although
according to Parrillo, since a more conservative court has taken less of a leading role in legislating

Analysis of the Performance Management System
ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES WERE ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES FOR
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SUGGESTED? I have analyzed the performance
management system and policy of the Overstrand municipality which in my opinion is good and
has been used and applied to their employees for a long time. However, the aforesaid
municipality apparently has not explored other current performance appraisal methods for its
employees. It might have been a good idea to try and test alternative and new methods of
performance evaluation such as self performance assessment and others which will be discussed
at a later stage in my presentation. The former (self performance assessment) has been used and
applied successfully in my organization for which I am working and has yielded good results
and enhanced employee performance as well as employee employer good working relationship.
Cascio and Anguinis (2014:81) argued that it is a good idea to have employees judge their own
performance in an organization. The performance evaluation or assessment in my experience is
always accompanied by goal or target setting and their achievement thereof. The self performance
method should improve individual s motivation and reduce defensiveness during performance
evaluation sessions. Based on my experience of the public and private sector, after self
performance evaluation there is a supervisor s performance rating based on the key performance
indicators that have been achieved on a quarterly basis. If the employee performance

services that s bad. If the customer service is bad it doesn t necessarily mean it s the employees
fault; it s more than likely the customers fault. If they have someone screaming at them for hours
on end it wears them out and makes them snap. Customers only have to deal with someone being
mean for the time they are at the drive thru, where as the worker has to sit through hours of

Summary Of The Strongest Blood By Van Camp
The Strongest Blood: Literary Techniques
The Strongest Blood tells the story of two cousins in an Indigenous setting, living in the Northwest
Territories. Anyone who has read The Strongest Blood knows how it centers in on the teachings of
Indigenous peoples and the struggles and conflicts that they face involving their land, spiritual
beliefs, and economy. Van Camp s extensive use of literary techniques directs the spotlight on the
two major themes of Indigeneity, and economical conflict while creating an interesting environment
for the reader.
Van Camp centers his short storyaround the mass movement for land: Idle No More . He
presents this idea as an allusion with no explanation within the text, leaving the reader to do their
research if they do not already have previous knowledge. In The Strongest Blood, Van Camp
redirects the character narration into digression and a flashback when the truck ride to the park is
interrupted by an anecdote about an Indigenous town. It was like the town had been in hiding
from its own inheritances as Aboriginal people and northerners living side by side. Someone had
even spray painted, It is time to learn from the Red Man IDLE NO MORE! (Van Camp 36)
This paragraph is part of the digression that is present since it is moving away from the exposition
of hunting grouse, and it is the first open reference towards Idle No More. Economical conflict is a
very relevant and important theme in The Strongest Blood because it sets a

Teachings of Life Through the River Essay
My father was always a man of infinite knowledge for those willing to listen. Unbeknownst to
him, his knowledge extends beyond what he has to teach. For example, when asked how to clean
a fish, he goes through the process in great detail. From where the incision is made to de scaling
the fish, he would always emphasize the care, attention to the smallest detail. With every lesson, the
majority of his teachings show how no matter how long the task, any person will always have
enough time to finish what they set out to do. As with most aspects of life the same principles apply.

After arriving at the river s mouth, we promptly shoved off the mucky shore. Against the current,
we trekked up the powerful Colorado River, slowly, in our little tin motorboat. Eventually, we

Realism Vs. Realism Of The United States
Realism versus Idealism. This argument is almost as old as the world we live in. The Unites States
has gone through a lot of stages in its history. The United States was sometimes realist and
sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices.
A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They
believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what
you do to them. For example Mahan was a realist who believed that a man s role in the world is
to clime with his country to the top knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the
future. In the history of the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One
of the first and most important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who
believes that the people can be changed by education and time. An idealist is a peaceful person
who believes that we can solve our conflicts without wars. They believe that war is the failure in
human evolution and that we should not turn to it to solve our problems because all war is a
symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal (John Steinbeck). Woodrow Wilsonis an example of

Comparing David And Bernini s David
Michelangelo s sculpture of David, as seen on the left, was created during the Renaissance. His
style of creating the sculpture is very different from Bernini s David, which can be seen on the
right. While both of these sculptures are meant to resemble the same young man who defeated
Goliath the giant, their features and characteristics make them appear as two separate individuals.
However, both sculptures capture the personality of David. These sculptures share a common
meaning, but qualities such as stability versus instability, reserved versus involving, calm versus
emotional, and light versus dark set them apart. As both of the titles of the sculptures represent, the
man is David in the Bible. During both the time of the Renaissanceand the time of Baroque, people
were very religious. The two show the heroism and braveness of the personality of David who had
the help of God to defeat a giant who was much larger than himself. Despite a similar purpose
behind them, the style that the two artists used created different feelings between the sculptures....

The Great City Of New Orleans
In this great city of New Orleans, we have so many extravagant elements that distinguishes us from
other cities. From Mardi Gras to the French Quarters to Canal St., they all play an important part in
this city s history. The different historical statues we have scattered about the city also cause major
attractions and either people love or hate them. Lately, four specific statues have been getting a lot
of attention around town from not only the citizens, but from our very own mayor, Mitch Landrieu.
Two of the four statues are the Robert E. LeeMonument in the center of Lee Circle and the P.G.T
Beauregard Statue on City Park Ave. The mayor feels the statues should be removed not only
because of their confederate backgrounds, but because they don t have anything to do with the
history of New Orleans. So, let s explore the background of these two, controversial statues,
beginning with the Robert E. Lee Monument, and then going to the P.G.T Beauregard Statue, but
before we discuss the statue let s start with the man in the statue.
Robert Edward Lee was born in Stratford Hall, Virginia on the 19th of January 1807. It appears
Lee was destined to be in the military considering he was the son of famous war hero Henry
Light Horse Harry Lee. As soon as Lee was old enough he joined the military. He attended the
United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated second in his class in 1829. After Lee
graduated, military life didn t live up to its reputation, in fact he

Women s Struggle For Equal Rights
In pre Revolutionary France and America, Women had no political rights and were forced to rely
on men. The women were destined to live a life of a house wife, she was only seen competent
enough in society to raise and educate kids and take care of her household. In both countries, the
revolution increased the population s attention to political matters and made liberty and equality
very important to the people. Unfortunately, Women did not claim any rightsduring this time, but
the women of the French Revolution and the activities they were implicated in heavily influenced
the movement and struggle for equal rights. Their March on Versailles, their political clubs and
pamphlets, and the prominent women political figures were vital assets that influenced the struggle
and movement for equal rights during the 19th and 20th century in France. During that period, due
to the abolition of the censorship and the liberty to publish, some writers argued for the women s
struggle for liberation and suffrage like Judith Sargent Murray with her Essay On the Equality of
the Sexes , which protested the idea that men had greater intellectual capacities then women, As
well as other French writers such as Olympe de Gouges who wrote several plays, short stories and
novels in which she expressed that women and men are different, but this shouldn t stop them from
equality under the law. Additionally, De Gouges was the author of the Declaration of the Rights of

The Impact Of Tourism On The Tourism Industry Worldwide
Responsible tourism/travel is about making better places for people to live in and better places for
people to visit. It also means that you travel lightly, with a small carbon footprint, respecting people
and places, while making a positive contribution where possible. Ecotourism is one of the fastest
growing sectors of the tourismindustry worldwide. It has spawned voluntourism, wildlife tourism
and geotourism (tourism to areas of geological interest.) There s also a growing interest in
sustainable tourism , whereby tourism businesses that aren t essentially nature based. Including
hotels and airlines, are finding ways to operate more sustainably.
Responsible tourism requires that operations, hoteliers, governments, local people and tourists take
responsibility, take action to make tourism more sustainable. The modern version of volutourism
started in the 1960s with the Peace Corps. From its inception, the Peace Corps philosophy was that
volunteers could and should serve their country by living and working in developing countries,
providing aid, and assisting in the peace process by interacting with local cultures.
Since Voluntourism has evolved into volunteer travel and volunteer vacations for the leisure travel
market. For the meetings, incentive, convention, and event (MICE) industry, it has become a
mechanism for expanding social responsibility, delivering purpose filled teambuilding activities for
attendees, and providing spouses with a much needed alternative to

Canada s child care policy has always been a topic of heated debate. Presently, Canada is one of
the only developed countries worldwide that does not have plan in place for nation wide child

system of universal high quality early learning and child care or even toward establishing

The average monthly cost for childcare in Ontario for a toddler is approximately $773
(www.todaysparent.com). The Universal Child Care Benefit, therefore, does not cover the full
cost of child care and in addition the UCCB is taxable. Some argue that because the UCCB is
universal and is provided to all families including those that are more well off and do not need it,
that the money should be redistributed to families with lower incomes (Howe Covell, 2007).
Similarly, subsidy programs were implemented. These subsidy programs all have eligibility criteria
that restrict and/or limit access to individuals. Additionally, those receiving subsidy have to pay
user fees (Howe Covell, 2007).
In the year 2010, there is still not enough space to accommodate 80% of Canadian children in

Ways People Benefit From South
What are ways people benefit from South? Ways people benefit from South are being a student
who continuously is on their work, engaged to what needs to be done, and being a responsible
young adult that wants to better themselves as a person, acknowledging the potential they have
from the tools provided by the school. Students being self driven give them an opportunity to excel
in their education. Going in re taking quizzes, tests, doing work show the students willingness to
succeed .
While many U.S. schools struggle with diversity, south successfully is full of diversity and different
cultures. In an article The Century Foundation I found this quote very interesting and somewhat
relatable to south. The benefits of school diversity run in all directions. There is increasing evidence
that diversity that makes us smarter. I believe diversity at south makes students smarter just by

teachers who are not good at what they do or how they go about their lessons. Teachers play a
big role in this topic of discussion because they should want to change themselves, but in a
positive way . Some students don t get the help they need. Says Tyanna. This is an issue because I
feel teachers at South focus more on the kids who are not capable like others. If South were to take

Polymers And Their Monomer Units
In order to better understand this lab one must first understand about polymers and their monomer
units. Polymers are substances containing a large number of structural units joined by the same
type of linkage. The small molecules that make up these polymer chains are called monomers.
Polymers in the natural world have been around since the beginning of time and are found many
places in nature. Starch, cellulose, and rubber all possess polymeric properties. Cellulose and
starch are actually polymers of glucose which is a monosaccharide.
Man made polymers (also known as synthetic polymers) have been studied since 1832. Today, the
polymer industry has grown to be larger than the aluminum, copper and steel industries combined.
Some of these synthetic polymers are include foam rubber, disposable diapers, plastic cups,
garden hoses, nylon, plastic wrap, etc. Polymers already have a range of applications that far
exceeds that of any other class of material available to man. Current applications extend from
adhesives, coatings, foams, and packaging materials to textile and industrial fibers, composites,
electronic devices, biomedical devices, optical devices, and precursors for many newly developed
high tech ceramics.
Not every kind of plastic is the same. In 1988, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI)
established a classification system to help consumers and recyclers properly recycle and dispose of
each different type based on its chemical makeup. These identification codes

The Effects Of Stress On Stress And Health
According to a National Institute of Mental Health article on stress and health, stress is defined any
change in the environment that requires your body to react and adjust in response. The body reacts
to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses.
Not all stress is bad, though. In fact, stress responses can be life saving in necessary situations. The
chemicals and hormones released during a stress response prepare the body to face a threat or flee
to safety, this is commonly known as the fight or flight response. When faced with a dangerous
situation, your heart rate increases, you breathe faster, your muscles tense, and your brain uses
more oxygen, all functions necessary for survival (Brannon et al., 2014).
Nonetheless, those same chemicals that can be life saving in short bursts are harmful if the
response is prolonged, as stress suppresses bodily functions that aren t needed for immediate
survival (Brannon et al., 2014). Further, your immunity is lowered and your digestive and
reproductive systems stop working normally (McEwen et al., 2011).
Feelings normally related with chronic stress and an overproduction of the stress hormone cortisol,
are anxiousness, nervousness, distraction, worry, and depression (Brannon et al., 2014).
Additionally, stomachache is common due to a slowing in the emptying of the stomach. Increase in
appetite is another physical symptom of stress, which can lead to weight gain. Stress also causes a

Graffiti And Street Art
Until the late 1960s, art was demonstrated mostly within the closed doors of museums, galleries
or homes, however art experienced a change during the 1970s when graffiti and street art
movements came into view. Despite the differences between graffiti and street art, the history of
street art was derived from graffiti. Graffiti movement, aka style writing (BlanchГ©, 2015, p. 32),
emerged during the 1960s 1970s in New York City and Philadelphia as a rebellious movement and
became synonymous with hip hop culture during the 1980s (Waclawek, 2008, p. 2). Graffiti
initially involved tagging, which consisted of a writer s signature done by a spray can (Danysz,

street art visionaries (p. 21 22) where a message is a medium (p. 300). As a visual composition,

Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, And Frederick...
When a group of people get together, with the same wants and needs, they become so motivated
that they will not be stopped by anyone to change what must be changed. Throughout the mid 1800
s, to the mid 1900 s, black men and women, along with white women, were all struggling to change
what they believed was wrong. While white women and African Americans both struggled to have
equality with white men. Historic leaders like Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and
Frederick Douglass, are only three people, but influenced an entire nation to help make a great
changes. In Sojourner Truth s speech, Ain t I a Woman? , Truth speaks out about women s
equality. Truth tells her audience, And ain t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have
ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain t I a
woman? (2). Sojourner Truth is telling the crowd that men aren t even on the same level as
women. During this time period women were looked at as dainty, and sub men, but Truth explains
to the audience that women are definitely equal, if not greater, than men. Truth proves women are
equal to men once again by stating that, ... he says women can t have as much rights as men,
cause Christ wasn t a woman! Where did your Christ come from?... From God and a woman! (2).

Angela Carter does not speak of a Feminism that succumbs to patriarchal pressure. She allows
certain cracks and fissures to become visible in patriarchal structure and roles. Her treatment of
the characters and situations is notably ambitious. Her reworking of myths and weaving of
imaginary situations evoke ideas of liberation and changes. Carter s female heroes in The
Passion of New Eve and Nights at the Circus are not merely victims of sexual harassment or rape.
They are masculine females able to pose a challenge to all patriarchal norms. Both these novels
provide Carter opportunities to redefine masculinity. She succeeds in crediting her female
protagonists with strong degree of autonomy and in making her male protagonists convincingly
drawn human beings. Carter s imaginary flights to worlds where women are installed as beings of

Analysis Of The Poem The Oysters By Tobias Wolff
There are two short stories with different settings. Oysters, written by Anton Chekhov, takes a
place in the nineteenth century Moscow. It begins with a flashback, which the author recalls on
the day that he and his father try to beg for alms in order to satisfy their hunger, which happens
when he is a child. While his father hesitates to ask people for alms, he sees a word oysters on a
placard. Since he does not know what oysters look like, he asks his father what oysters are and
imagines a delicious fish soup, however, when his father tells what oysters really look like, he
starts to feel disgusted. When he is crying for oysters, two gentlemen drag him to the restaurant to
let him eat oysters. In the end, he gets to eat oysters, but it does not make him satisfied, in fact, it
makes him sick.
On the other hand, Powder, written by Tobias Wolff
, takes a place in the modern state of
Washington. The author begins with the story by telling that the father and his son go to Mount
Baker for skiing. The father has a difficult relationship with his wife that they are about to break
up. When he and his son decide to go home, they are unable to do so because the road is closed
due to snow. Since the father wants to go home as quick as possible, he tries to call state troopers
to move away, which is breaking law. Oysters and Powder seems to have few relationships with
each other because of the different settings. However, they contain some important similarities and

Knight And Squire In The Canterbury Tales Essay
The Canterbury Tales were written by Geoffrey Chaucer the 1300s, and told the story of twenty
nine travelers making a pilgrimage to Canterbury, England. The pilgrims wished to visit the relics
of Saint Thomas Becket, in the Canterbury Cathedral. In the prologue, the narrator depicts each
character and their demeanor. Two particular characters in Chaucer s CanterburyTales, the Knight
and Squire, help to exemplify the idea that wisdom and respect come with experience and age.
The Knight s wisdom and maturity above the Squire is proven not only through age, but he also
proved his traits through battle and hardships. The narrator tells of the Knight s voyages, stating

By describing the Knight like this, the narrator also establishes the Knight as a model citizen who
demonstrates chivalry and enthusiasm to do the right thing, similar to the Squire. Rather than the
Squire s childish persona, the Knight is presented as a figure of maturity, formality, and authority,
due to his title as a knight. The Knight s maturity and genuinity illustrates how the Knight s wisdom
and respect comes from his experience and age above the Squire.
The narrator established that both the Knight and Squire acted as model citizens, but he also
exposed their motives for those actions, with the Knight s motives being more wise due to his
age and experiences. The narrator depicts the Knight as being genuinely kind, while the Squire
has ulterior motives. The Knight is said to have noble graces (Chaucer 50) and pure intentions
with his actions. This exposes the Knight s drive to act as a proper knight and leave the most
honorable legacy possible for himself. In contrast, the Squire is described as being motivated to
act in hopes of winning a lady s grace (Chaucer 90). The Squire is a younger knight in training,
so it would be logical that his intentions aren t as pure as those of a true knight, like his father.
This is a demonstration of the Squire s lack of wisdom, due to his naive motivation of courtship
and his lack of driven motivation for his future as a knight. The Squires lack of drive and

since (BLUMSTEIN NAKAMURA, 2009). People have started families and want to set
examples for their children. Many of these people have earned college degrees hoper for a better
future. Degrees are the same no matter where you get them or who gets them. A degree doesn t
reflect a hard worked education that you have succeeded not a pass that you are haunted by. A
person with a past has to put forth the same amount of effort to get a degree as someone with no
criminal history. If they ve worked to obtain the degree then they should have the same
opportunity regardless of their past. Same Old Person, New Clean Record People Who Have

The Second Epoch ( 1980 )
The Second Epoch (1980 2000s) In the second epoch, the emphasis shifted from regulations to
coordinating the objectives of the environment with other social and economic priorities, with more
attention to human health effects, and to carrying out the environmental policies that were on
books, more resourcefully. In a couple of instances, new goals were formed which went beyond the
former goals, for example, including dangerous materials and hazardous waste to the environmental
policy agenda, the additionally demanding provisions of the Clean Air Act of 1990, and the more
prominent acknowledgment of the international and worldwide implications of pollution. However,
the pace of enactment and the coverage of sources of pollution which were newly identified slowed
considerably in comparison with the first epoch. What changed most particularly was confidence in
the philosophy of regulation and firm control by the government.4 It turned out to be clear that
legislation alone, could neither direct nor police all organizations and groups all over the country,
nor could it bear all the obligation regarding empowering creative reactions to environmental issues.
This was not just a response to the growing involvement of the government. Underlying the second
epoch was the acknowledgment that considerable advancement had been accomplished in lessening
harmful environmental discharges and upgrading protection of resources, in policy if not generally
in deed. After over 10 years of

Character Analysis Of King Kong
King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are
feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and
makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s
motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such
as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While
writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love
story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between
Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it
challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that
shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout.
Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is
feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the
characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the
ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers
describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates
imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog,
they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is
when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re
going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it.
The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex
character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and
destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as
himself usually does not display. A moment where the complexity of King Kong s character is
shown is when Ann and Kong have their first real

What Are The Weaknesses Of The Two Party System
Left Wing, Right Wing, Broken Wing
Have you ever considered the American government is corrupt, even though they claim to uphold
certain American values? The two party system is just that: corrupt. Right now, the government
offers two parties, and even though it has its benefits, it has a lot more weaknesses. Although the
two party system offers stability and accessibility for citizens, it is broken and needs to be
drastically changed for the government to be actually of the people, by the people, for the people.
The two party system was born after the American revolution, when our representatives for each
colony chose sides between federalists and antifederalists. This later became what we know today
as the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Antifederalists believed a weaker national
government and Federalists believed a strong national government. During this time we were
warned by one of our founding fathers, James Madison, of dividing into factions an interested and
overbearing majority[s] ( Political Systems and Parties Overview 1) that would control our way of
thinking through running the country. Our modern political system took shape during the 1828
election between Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams. This election was the first time in 28
years that the Republican party actually faced opposition (Riley 2). Andrew Jackson won by an
electoral vote of 62% to Adams 38% which made Jackson the first Democrat elected since 1796.
This was the precursor to the two party system and set the nation on track for how it is currently
(Riley 3).
The two party system today has changed over time, but is still only between two ideals of the
Democrats and Republicans. Our current system is a different path but it all ends with the choice
of two candidates. Today the candidates go through a process to get to the status as a Republican or
Democrat nominee. After both nominees are selected by each respective party, the voters decide
between the two for the next president of the United States. During the campaigning of the two,
three presidential debates are held in which a moderator asks key issues of the country, and also,
one of the debates American citizens get to ask questions ( Political Systems and

Satan In John Steinbeck s The Book Of Job
God is sovereign and knows all, yet the man he created does not. He alone knows how strong each
individual s faith is and how far it can go before conforming. In The Book of Job, many people
believed God presented Job to Satan because he had something to prove. Satan s idea was simple
if God removed his hand from one of his most righteous followers that he would be cursed to his
face. Godknew that Job was a prototype of an upright man and would prove Satanwrong. Without
hesitation God agreed and Satan commenced with the acquisition of Jobs life determined to hinder
Jobs faith. Satan has always had a hidden agenda sought to change the beliefs of man. Satan once
said he will redeem all mankind, that one shall not be lost, and surely I... Show more content on

When Job curses the day that he was born his friend s reason for being takes a turn. They begin
to tell him how the innocent do not suffer but the wicked do. That Job must have sinned and this
is why God is doing this to him. I believe even though it was not stated in the story this is still the
work of Satan. Instead of physically attacking Job, and taking away possessions he is targeting
him mentally. After listening to his friends he challenges them to show him where he has sinned.
Job complains about his health and his life in a whole. While Job has not lost his faith he has lost
any hope pertaining to his life. He mocks his friends and reaches out to God to present his case.
Job maintains his integrity speaking on all the good he has done and evil he has steered clear

The Student That I Have Been Working With Over The Past...
The student that I have been working with over the past six weeks is Brad Concordia. Brad
attends Shiloh Hills Elementary School in the rural area of the Wilson School District. Brad is
a first grade student in Mrs. Detwiler s classroom who suffers from brain damage and
unfortunately he s dealt with it since he was born. Brad is an energetic, positive kid who loves
to tell stories and talk about PokГ©mon. He does not act up in class and he tends to be very
polite and well behaved. Whenever the teacher gives him an activity to do he tries his very best to
accomplish it without the help of an aid, but most times he is left with no choice due to his
condition.
A couple of Brad s strengths include being able to count dots 1 34 without any issues, and he is
able to comprehend the number of dots he counted and write it down for the answer. For basic
numbers such as 1 10, he is able to do it fully on his on and get all of the digits correct. For
numbers greater than 10, he is dependent on the help of one of the other teachers. His main
weakness in math is his lack of ability to do problems on his own. He relies on counting dots to
add up the numbers and my goal for him is for him to be able to see a number and know how
much it is worth rather than using dots to count. After talking with Mrs. Detwiler, we discussed a
plan to help Brad comprehend single digits numbers using his number line. Brad has been very
positive toward this intervention and he is eager to work

people because of her personality.
Winnie feels as though the family she meets in the forested areas are all the more a family then her

Process Analysis Reflection
Teachers in high school were constantly trying to tell you how to write their way and perfect what
they thought was good writing. Little did I know everyone s writing style is good in its own way.
This academic writing class proved to me that no writing style is right or wrong, but instead all
writing styles have their own uniqueness and character to them. After reading the assigned articles
and analyzing the writingprocess and other topics discussed in this class, I now see writing as an
extraordinary process that is different for everyone. After writing papers and getting feedback, I
saw where my writing lacked solid evidence in my rhetorical analysis paper, and I also found certain
ways I can write more efficiently in my process... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What helped me analyze this was Carol Berkenkotter and Donald Murray s analysis of the writing
process. Donald Murray was analyzed for two months in his everyday life and they analyzed how
the environment he was in when writing affected his writing outcomes. The importance of the
audience when editing was highlighted in one of the final paragraphs and I did not realize the
importance of the audience really until I looked back and thought about my writing. Even going
back to junior high writing, your audience was the teacher, and your goal was to write to the
teacher s specifications. Writing is more than just sitting down and writing a dull essay. Even if it is
not the first thought in your head you still have to know your affordances, constraints, and
audience in order to write effectively and edit to the best of your ability. Going into this course I
was afraid my writing style would not be good enough, or up to par with the writing style of a
professor for a college writing class. The first paper I composed this semester was a rhetorical
analysis paper in which I analyzed the rhetor, the audience, the exigence, affordances, and
constraints. If you would have asked me what most of those terms meant last year at this time I
would have given you a blank stare. After reading the articles from Keith Grant Davie, Christina
Haas and Linda Flower, and Laura Carroll, my eyes were opened to what rhetorical

Is There Something Psychologically Unhealthy About Being A...
Fandom Phenomenon Fandoms, do you know what they really are or do you have a misguided
understanding from popular media? Fandom is a broad spectrum of interest, from reading comic
books to watching television shows, a fandom members involvement is central to themselves.
Unfortunately for Fandom members what they view as a hobby has been warped by the media
and they are viewed by society as wanting to escape any real life responsibilities. What makes a
person a Fandommember? The definition of a fandom member is simple; if you want to be a
member, than you are a member. You can simply walk into the welcome arms of Fandom life and
the Fandom will embrace you. Unfortunately the over obsessive fringe dwellers of the Fandom
community have been highlighted in the media to create a misguided representation of the whole

Characteristics Of Christian Worldview
According to Nelson a worldview is a conceptual framework of our view of the world, a belief
system that guides individual behavior (Esqueda 3). A worldview determines individual s
framework of an idea, approach of the world, and belief. A worldview also plays a significant role
in individual s life, it will affect how an individual views the reality, the value, moral, attitudes, and
character. A Christian worldview is man view the world through Christian faith. A Christian
worldview has demonstrated metaphysical, epistemological, and axiological views as well
contrasted with the metaphysical, epistemological, and axiological components of Atheist
worldview.
The Christian worldview analyzes the reality through the lens of the Bible. The metaphysical
Christian worldview believes God is self existent independently and He is the creator. The Bible
simply declares that God is independent of all outside of Himself. There are few scriptures
convey the existence of God. In the book of Genesis says In the beginning, God created the
heavens and earth (Genesis 1:1), and the book Exodus God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM
(Exodus 3:14). God also created the universe and everything in it In Him, we live, move, and
have our being (Acts 17:28, NIV). God is the only self existent, everything exists because of God
created. Paul says For since the creation of the world God s invisible qualities his creation power
and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what

Trainspotting Film Analysis Essay
Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously,
with a series of postulated choicesВ—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and
opposition. Significant here is the tone in which these options are deliveredВ—it might be
considered the rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals
to make the correct choices, to conform to expectation.
As such, the introduction might be read as contributing to the formation of two narrative constructs:
that of normality В—or at least that considered normality by prevailing ideologyВ—and that of
subnormality, the remainder. In its uncompromising rejection of the former, the commentary of

These subcultures operate because the world around them is open to interpretation, and if an
interpretation is justified, it is arguably as valid as one which directly opposes it.
The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of
powerВ—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, is, in
her own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict. Because these particular characters choice of
lifestyle conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalisedВ—forced to live in squalor
and filth. This is something signified in the mise en scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets;
of splattered walls, doors and floors; of soiled bed sheets; of buckets for urine, vomittus and faeces.
Fittingly, there is an equally strong argument to the contrary. Begbie proves an unreliable narrator,
yet appears to act without conscience or consequence; Sick Boy, portrayed early on as a closet
philosopher, is rendered mute after the death of his son. Some things are above and beyond words.
Similarly, despite its apparent emphasis on the relationship between power and subjectivity, the film
does pronounce ultimate ethical judgements, as I will describe in a moment.
Trainspotting essentially refuses to make up its mind. At the film s close, Renton s betrayal of his
friends is completely rationalised away. Were his

The Murder And Robbery Of A Teenage Girl By Six African...
On June 15th, 1920, three innocent men were beaten and lynched in Duluth, Minnesota. The
alleged rape and robbery of a teenage girl by six African American men, led a mob of protesters to
kidnap three of the men and punish them without trial . Durring this time, racial tensions were at
an all time high in Duluth . The Duluth lynchings were met with different reactions, and in many
ways it sparked a change in the United States. Events such as this one often go unremembered due
to their troubling nature, but these events are educational and necessary to learn while
investigating Minnesota history. The background, legal action, and after math of it all show how
Minnesota, and the country as a whole reacted to this event . While some Local Duluth newspaper
responded in favor of the mob, the majority of National newspapers condemned the mob for their
heinous crimes. Opposite reactions from multiple news reports shows how divided our country
was about civil rights at the time, and how controversial the topic was . A call to action was
needed. The Duluth lychings affected the nation by showing how controversial civil rights was at
this time, and influencing the creation of new programs and laws to protect the rights of African
Americans in our country. The 1920 s presented many hardships for the small black community the
resided in Duluth. Racial tensions in the city, as well as all over the country, were high during this

  • 2. Gay Marriage Timeline Over the years it was more of a realistic possibility that there were always gay couples who thought of or desired of getting married someday. The only difference between the past and the future regarding this subject was the fact that gay couples were much rarer or it was much more hidden. But now this issue with no doubt has become a great controversy for the past years after many individuals started demanding their gayrights. According to usatoday Timeline The subject started to arise once gay couples spoke up but it mostly became a controversy when the number of cases started to grow. With time gay couple were becoming less rare which meant more gay couples wanted to marry their partner. As a result, to this change it became a conflict especially when states such as Maryland banned same sex marriages. That was when it became clear that not everybody would agree to such change. As of now according to Governing.com it seems like 37 states including California allow gay marriages. So it seems as of now the State governments are the ones dealing with this problem. Although, its seems like progress is being made the issue has not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among the 46 percent who disagreed most of them stated that the reason they disagreed was because most of them believed the federal government should be the one dealing with the problem. Something I did find interesting was the fact that most of the people who were part of the 46 percent where people who supported gay marriages. I saw comments that stated that there should be no hate or discrimination that why not just let the whole country legalize same sex marriages and just put a stop to this problem and a stop to making gay peoples life miserable and ... • 3. Classroom Reflection Paper In the classroom where I am doing student teaching I have observed students utilizing a science notebook only three times in the school year so far. Some schools have clusters, while other schools integrate science into their curriculum through other subject such as reading and writing. According to one teacher, the students receive scienceinstruction through STEM, which creates more of a focus for her teaching in social studies instead of science. At my assigned school, the students receive instruction in their native language in science one day and social studies the next. Most teachers put a lot of planning into ELA and math, but not a lot of planning into the science lessons that are part of the curriculum. Part of my belief that science isn t taught at the same level as other subjects is that teachers don t feel confident enough when it comes to different science topics. When reading Chapter 7 of The Essentials of Science and Literacy I was able to realize important practices when it comes to science instruction that are not being implemented in the classroom. As a part of the classroom there are many good practices that I observe from my cooperating teacher. However, I believe that no general educationteacher provides perfect instruction in every subject. The science notebook has several key purposes within a classroom. According to the article, the science notebook is the ongoing record of the thinking and the process of a scientific inquiry. Without a written record, it makes it hard for students to recall at the top of their head their findings from the day before. A science notebook creates opportunities for students not only to engage in the process of scientific inquiry, but also to reflect upon their learning. What I like most about the science notebook is the integration of skills because even though the focus is not on writing, a science notebook allows students to use several skills in the context of science. When asking students to produce any form of assessment, there must also be some kind of feedback given to students in order to help them grow and deepen their understanding of the topic. 2. • 4. Summary Of Poem In Just By Ee Cummings E.E Cummings distinctive style in poetry gives readers the opportunity to interpret his work in various ways. His satirical approach challenges modern society to go against the grain and construe his work how they individually view it. His fascination with nature allows him to create an unpredictable yet vivid storyline for readers. Cummings use of allegory and symbolism in his poem [in Just ] contributes to his intention of allowing readers to think for themselves. In the poem, the speaker begins by setting the scene. It is springtime and that is all we know, but with just that minor detail, readers can envision nice weather, a sunny day, and an overall beautiful scenery. The speaker continues by adding more details to the scenery. When the world is mud /luscious the little/lame balloonman... Now we are provided with mud and a balloonman. More often than not, when there is mud there are either children or animals around. In this case, we learn that it is in fact children playing around having a splendid time in mud. It seems typical that kids are enjoying the weather while getting dirty, but then there is a balloonman that is presented. The balloonman seems to be slightly disabled as he is referred to as the little lame balloonman with the term lame meaning he has a limp when he walks. It seems odd that there is a person with a limp that is presented in such an environment that the speaker previously depicted. The balloonman appears to be content with himself as he is whistling and minding his own business. The speaker then introduces readers to two boys eddieandbill . The names are not bothered being separated because the speaker wants to emphasize the close relationship between the two. The lack of spacing between the names exudes that the boys have a two peas in a pod kind of bond. Throughout the poem, the speaker constantly reminds us that it is spring and adds more details to the setting. The repetition of the time of the year being spring grants readers the idea that this is important and a wonderful season. The world is referred to as puddle wonderful in the middle of the poem and it appears that the poem is beginning to pick up. The balloon man is an oddball. The spotlight appears to be on ... • 5. Person Centred Approaches to Counselling- Creating a Safe... Introduction A safe space for a client could be described as a place or space in which a client feels secure and free to express him/herself in a real, true and open way. This could mean a number of things to different clients, it is very individual. What makes a person feel safe? The list could include some or all of the following; Not feeling judged or criticised by the counsellor or that the counsellor is likely to not accept you if you share something bad Feeling that the counsellor accurately understands you, what you are saying or trying to say and what you are feeling or experiencing Feeling that the counsellor is true and genuine in the relationship, his/her real self Knowing that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people will go to therapy because they have had previous bad or traumatic relationships which have left them damaged or traumatised in some way, quite often these relationships were with their parents when they were children. They have learned the danger and not to trust the very people they believed should most be trusted. I believe it can be even more fundamental and damaging than this still, they have also learned not to trust in themselves to have the ability to know who is safe to trust or not. The relationship with the therapist then can become something like a re parenting or a re learning of how a trusting relationship should/could have been with one s parents. Most people will agree that parents should (in a perfect world) give their children unconditional positive regard, empathy and be relatively non judgemental with them, also show them respect and allow them to keep their dignity. Unfortunately this is not always the case. It is therefore even more important that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client show all these things to the highest of degrees. However, if this aspect of trust and safety is not present it can actually do more harm than good to clients that are already vulnerable and anxious. It can, in fact be retraumatising and compound their possible views of themselves as being unlovable or unworthy etc, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cesar Chavez is also remembered for all of his very powerful speeches that made a difference in this world for Mexican Americans. • 10. Cowside Beck Discharge Analysis Introduction Hillslopes are incredibly important as they cover the vast majority of United Kingdoms (UK) upland landscapes. In sight of this, an aim in this project was to analyse the slope profiles of the valley system around Cowside Beck. Not only do hillslope processes have influence on the formation and aesthetics of UK upland areas, fluvial processes also have high significance, leading another aim in this project to be able to ascertain the discharge of Cowside Beck using the velocity area method. Method We used the velocity area method as discharge is calculated by the product of the cross sectional area of the water and its velocity. The discharge of cowside beck was calculated after the initial data collection. To calculate the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A stratified sampling method was chosen due to the changes in the hillslope profiles being localised in areas over small intervals, this method was efficient and representative of the full range of changes. A limitation of this method is that choosing the sections was subjective, in order to decrease the subjectivity and any bias that may be present, the same person chose the sections each time. Time was one of the main constraints in this enquiry therefore we chose to use the clinometer tape method rather than levelling all the way up the hillslope as it was a much simpler approach and took less time to set up and undertake. In some narrow sections the hillslope had a small angle, being almost flat, an explanation for this is the area of Cowside Beck is a popular tourist destination for walkers so footpaths were present. In some of the sample sections, no evidence of mass movement was observed. However in other areas, mass movement is the key to understanding the shape of the hillslope. Numerous sample sites contained terracettes, which is an explanation for the slope having concavities and convexities in close proximity to each other. These landforms are formed by the mass movement process of soil creep. Soil creep is a very slow process that occurs when the underlying rock becomes saturated and in turn causing the soil to become saturated. Often the hillslope is steep so the soil cannot remain stable and gets thrust away from the slope. The material expands due to processes of freezing, heating and water action and the soil slowly creeps downhill due to gravity. The concentration of the terracettes in the earlier sites nearer to the river can be explained by the water table lying some distance up the hillslope so the river lies below the water table. This causes the soil in this area to become more saturated and heavier hence more soil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Johnson s executive order 11246, and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The quota based system was enacted to close the gap between white male privilege and all ethnic minority groups to include women, homosexuals, the disabled as well as the elderly in attempt to rid professional institutions like businesses and universities of prejudice discrimination. In the year 1978, the resentment of whites caught wave in a Supreme Court case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke. The case stated that Affirmative Action created a reverse discrimination thus disparaging white youth from the same level of opportunity in the college application process. As a result, the Supreme Court upheld affirmative action, allowing race to be one of several factors in college admission policy. • 12. Analysis of the Performance Management System ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES WERE ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES FOR PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SUGGESTED? I have analyzed the performance management system and policy of the Overstrand municipality which in my opinion is good and has been used and applied to their employees for a long time. However, the aforesaid municipality apparently has not explored other current performance appraisal methods for its employees. It might have been a good idea to try and test alternative and new methods of performance evaluation such as self performance assessment and others which will be discussed at a later stage in my presentation. The former (self performance assessment) has been used and applied successfully in my organization for which I am working and has yielded good results and enhanced employee performance as well as employee employer good working relationship. Cascio and Anguinis (2014:81) argued that it is a good idea to have employees judge their own performance in an organization. The performance evaluation or assessment in my experience is always accompanied by goal or target setting and their achievement thereof. The self performance method should improve individual s motivation and reduce defensiveness during performance evaluation sessions. Based on my experience of the public and private sector, after self performance evaluation there is a supervisor s performance rating based on the key performance indicators that have been achieved on a quarterly basis. If they have someone screaming at them for hours on end it wears them out and makes them snap. Customers only have to deal with someone being mean for the time they are at the drive thru, where as the worker has to sit through hours of screaming and complaining from other customers. • 14. Summary Of The Strongest Blood By Van Camp The Strongest Blood: Literary Techniques The Strongest Blood tells the story of two cousins in an Indigenous setting, living in the Northwest Territories. Anyone who has read The Strongest Blood knows how it centers in on the teachings of Indigenous peoples and the struggles and conflicts that they face involving their land, spiritual beliefs, and economy. Van Camp s extensive use of literary techniques directs the spotlight on the two major themes of Indigeneity, and economical conflict while creating an interesting environment for the reader. Van Camp centers his short storyaround the mass movement for land: Idle No More . He presents this idea as an allusion with no explanation within the text, leaving the reader to do their research if they do not already have previous knowledge. In The Strongest Blood, Van Camp redirects the character narration into digression and a flashback when the truck ride to the park is interrupted by an anecdote about an Indigenous town. It was like the town had been in hiding from its own inheritances as Aboriginal people and northerners living side by side. Someone had even spray painted, It is time to learn from the Red Man IDLE NO MORE! (Van Camp 36) This paragraph is part of the digression that is present since it is moving away from the exposition of hunting grouse, and it is the first open reference towards Idle No More. Not sure of what region he meant, my father pointed out on the map The Grand Canyon. I was beside myself with unkempt joy. Of course, the location, by itself was only half of the excitement. My father later elaborated further into details of the trip. He told me we would be camping on the river s shore for an entire week. Nothing could have prepared me for this journey s unaltered beauty. After arriving at the river s mouth, we promptly shoved off the mucky shore. Against the current, we trekked up the powerful Colorado River, slowly, in our little tin motorboat. Eventually, we landed in a place called Lees Ferry. In the daytime, the only beauty the great canyon had to offer was its monolithic red walls. Towards sunset, the real beauty emerged. The bank of the river slowly started to fill will all kinds of small insects. As each bug lit on the water, a trout appropriately held its own place in the food chain. The United States was sometimes realist and sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices. A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what you do to them. As both of the titles of the sculptures represent, the man is David in the Bible. During both the time of the Renaissanceand the time of Baroque, people were very religious. The different historical statues we have scattered about the city also cause major attractions and either people love or hate them. Lately, four specific statues have been getting a lot of attention around town from not only the citizens, but from our very own mayor, Mitch Landrieu. Two of the four statues are the Robert E. So, let s explore the background of these two, controversial statues, beginning with the Robert E. Polymers are substances containing a large number of structural units joined by the same type of linkage. The small molecules that make up these polymer chains are called monomers. Polymers in the natural world have been around since the beginning of time and are found many places in nature. Starch, cellulose, and rubber all possess polymeric properties. Cellulose and starch are actually polymers of glucose which is a monosaccharide. Man made polymers (also known as synthetic polymers) have been studied since 1832. Today, the polymer industry has grown to be larger than the aluminum, copper and steel industries combined. Some of these synthetic polymers are include foam rubber, disposable diapers, plastic cups, garden hoses, nylon, plastic wrap, etc. Polymers already have a range of applications that far exceeds that of any other class of material available to man. Current applications extend from adhesives, coatings, foams, and packaging materials to textile and industrial fibers, composites, electronic devices, biomedical devices, optical devices, and precursors for many newly developed high tech ceramics. • 28. The Effects Of Stress On Stress And Health According to a National Institute of Mental Health article on stress and health, stress is defined any change in the environment that requires your body to react and adjust in response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Not all stress is bad, though. In fact, stress responses can be life saving in necessary situations. The chemicals and hormones released during a stress response prepare the body to face a threat or flee to safety, this is commonly known as the fight or flight response. When faced with a dangerous situation, your heart rate increases, you breathe faster, your muscles tense, and your brain uses more oxygen, all functions necessary for survival (Brannon et al., 2014). Nonetheless, those same chemicals that can be life saving in short bursts are harmful if the response is prolonged, as stress suppresses bodily functions that aren t needed for immediate survival (Brannon et al., 2014). Further, your immunity is lowered and your digestive and reproductive systems stop working normally (McEwen et al., 2011). Feelings normally related with chronic stress and an overproduction of the stress hormone cortisol, are anxiousness, nervousness, distraction, worry, and depression (Brannon et al., 2014). The narrator depicts the Knight as being genuinely kind, while the Squire has ulterior motives. The Knight is said to have noble graces (Chaucer 50) and pure intentions with his actions. This exposes the Knight s drive to act as a proper knight and leave the most honorable legacy possible for himself. In contrast, the Squire is described as being motivated to act in hopes of winning a lady s grace (Chaucer 90). The Squire is a younger knight in training, so it would be logical that his intentions aren t as pure as those of a true knight, like his father. This is a demonstration of the Squire s lack of wisdom, due to his naive motivation of courtship and his lack of driven motivation for his future as a knight. The Squires lack of drive and ... The Second Epoch ( 1980 ) The Second Epoch (1980 2000s) In the second epoch, the emphasis shifted from regulations to coordinating the objectives of the environment with other social and economic priorities, with more attention to human health effects, and to carrying out the environmental policies that were on books, more resourcefully. In a couple of instances, new goals were formed which went beyond the former goals, for example, including dangerous materials and hazardous waste to the environmental policy agenda, the additionally demanding provisions of the Clean Air Act of 1990, and the more prominent acknowledgment of the international and worldwide implications of pollution. However, the pace of enactment and the coverage of sources of pollution which were newly identified slowed considerably in comparison with the first epoch. What changed most particularly was confidence in the philosophy of regulation and firm control by the government.4 It turned out to be clear that legislation alone, could neither direct nor police all organizations and groups all over the country, nor could it bear all the obligation regarding empowering creative reactions to environmental issues. This was not just a response to the growing involvement of the government. Underlying the second epoch was the acknowledgment that considerable advancement had been accomplished in lessening harmful environmental discharges and upgrading protection of resources, in policy if not generally in deed. • 42. Character Analysis Of King Kong King Kong is exciting screenplay that does a great job at demonstrating what the characters are feeling. When the writers wanted to illustrate fear, they do so by painting an image terror, and makes it relatable. By making a scene relatable, it helps with the understanding of the character s motives, and gives insight to the kind of person that character is. By having a complex villain such as King Kong, one battles the urge to root for Kong, as well as wanting him to ceased. While writers do an overall great job with the development of the characters, where they lacks is in love story between Darrow and Driscoll. By not successfully developing the relationship between Darrow and Driscoll in the beginning, love between the two feels rushed, which therefore makes it challenging to care about their relationship. Overall King Kong is a well written screenplay, that shows does a great job at showing what the characters are feeling throughout. Where the writers of the screenplay succeed is in illustrating the emotion that the character is feeling at that moment. If one does not do this successfully, it makes it hard to invest in the characters, and understand the situation of the scene. An example of this is when Carl and the ship crew approach Skull Island. As they are approaching the undiscovered island, the writers describe this thick fog that the characters enter (47). By doing this, the writers demonstrates imagery to describe the dark and eerie place. As the characters are unable to see through the fog, they start to become afraid, as they fear of the unknown. An example of this being expressed is when one of the ship crew members Hayes yells captain, you don t know where the hell you re going (49)! Panic and terror possess the characters, and the writers do a great of showing it. The writers do a great job with the development of King Kong and making him a complex character. At first, King Kong appears to be the stereotypical monster/villain that only kills and destroys, but later in the story, King Kong shows a different side of him that a character such as himself usually does not display. • 43. What Are The Weaknesses Of The Two Party System Left Wing, Right Wing, Broken Wing Have you ever considered the American government is corrupt, even though they claim to uphold certain American values? The two party system is just that: corrupt. Right now, the government offers two parties, and even though it has its benefits, it has a lot more weaknesses. Although the two party system offers stability and accessibility for citizens, it is broken and needs to be drastically changed for the government to be actually of the people, by the people, for the people. The two party system was born after the American revolution, when our representatives for each colony chose sides between federalists and antifederalists. This later became what we know today as the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. The Antifederalists believed a weaker national government and Federalists believed a strong national government. During this time we were warned by one of our founding fathers, James Madison, of dividing into factions an interested and overbearing majority[s] ( Political Systems and Parties Overview 1) that would control our way of thinking through running the country. Our modern political system took shape during the 1828 election between Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams. This election was the first time in 28 years that the Republican party actually faced opposition (Riley 2). Andrew Jackson won by an electoral vote of 62% to Adams 38% which made Jackson the first Democrat elected since 1796. This was the precursor to the two party system and set the nation on track for how it is currently (Riley 3). The two party system today has changed over time, but is still only between two ideals of the Democrats and Republicans. Our current system is a different path but it all ends with the choice of two candidates. Today the candidates go through a process to get to the status as a Republican or Democrat nominee. After both nominees are selected by each respective party, the voters decide between the two for the next president of the United States. During the campaigning of the two, three presidential debates are held in which a moderator asks key issues of the country, and also, one of the debates American citizens get to ask questions ( Political Systems and ... Little did I know everyone s writing style is good in its own way. This academic writing class proved to me that no writing style is right or wrong, but instead all writing styles have their own uniqueness and character to them. After reading the assigned articles and analyzing the writingprocess and other topics discussed in this class, I now see writing as an extraordinary process that is different for everyone. After writing papers and getting feedback, I saw where my writing lacked solid evidence in my rhetorical analysis paper, and I also found certain ways I can write more efficiently in my process... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What helped me analyze this was Carol Berkenkotter and Donald Murray s analysis of the writing process. Donald Murray was analyzed for two months in his everyday life and they analyzed how the environment he was in when writing affected his writing outcomes. The importance of the audience when editing was highlighted in one of the final paragraphs and I did not realize the importance of the audience really until I looked back and thought about my writing. Even going back to junior high writing, your audience was the teacher, and your goal was to write to the teacher s specifications. Writing is more than just sitting down and writing a dull essay. Even if it is not the first thought in your head you still have to know your affordances, constraints, and audience in order to write effectively and edit to the best of your ability. Going into this course I was afraid my writing style would not be good enough, or up to par with the writing style of a professor for a college writing class. The first paper I composed this semester was a rhetorical analysis paper in which I analyzed the rhetor, the audience, the exigence, affordances, and constraints. If you would have asked me what most of those terms meant last year at this time I would have given you a blank stare. The 1996 film opens, famously, with a series of postulated choicesВ—variables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition. Significant here is the tone in which these options are deliveredВ—it might be considered the rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the correct choices, to conform to expectation. The imposition of a universal set of values, like that of the law, for example, is a product of powerВ—and, liberally speaking, an injustice. Renton notes that his mother, on tranquillisers, is, in her own socially acceptable way, also a drug addict. Because these particular characters choice of lifestyle conflict with that of the dominant order, they are marginalisedВ—forced to live in squalor and filth. This is something signified in the mise en scene: theirs is a world of repugnant toilets; of splattered walls, doors and floors; of soiled bed sheets; of buckets for urine, vomittus and faeces.
