The novel Heart of Darkness, written by Conrad, explores the Congo through Marlow s story.
Marlow discovers the horror behind imperialism through the invasion of Europeans into the Congo,

Juror No. 8 In Twelve Angry Men
In the story Twelve Angry Men, there is a group of jurors that try to solve a case about an
African American teen who murdered his dad with a knife. There are twelve jurors in this story,
but this essay will only be about two of them, No. 8 and No. 10. Juror No. 8 is a highly skilled
man who looks only at the facts. Where as Juror No.10 is a man that doesn t look at the facts, but
also bases his opinions off of past events. The first Juror, No. 8 is one of the most significant

shipments including large item delivery to residential customers of various online, as well as,
commercial freight delivery. The company s policy on returns, refusals, and damaged items is
to do whatever the shipper dictates. Some items are so large that it is not cost efficient to return
them to the shipper or corporate, such as, kayaks, patio furniture sets, or custom vanity cabinets.
In these instances, the directive is often to destroy and dispose of it or give it to charity. Many
perfectly good items end up in the trash because of this but some items magically disappear
from the dumpster as well. Recently, a case of tea and a Keurig, were the topic of discussion. A
clerk received an order to destroy the tea and dispose of it, she had the terminal manager sign off
on it and claimed to put it in the dumpster. Both managers later became aware that the tea had
disappeared and was not in the dumpster. The next day, an order came in to dispose of a Keurig
that was being held. When the same clerk saw the order, she asked where it was. She was told it
had already been put in the dumpster and immediately went to check it. She returned and stated that
it wasn t in there. One of the managers, suspecting that she was looking to take it and had taken the

In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan uses parables to show passing wisdom, maintaining
relationships, and passing on traditions. Tan shows how important parables are for the Chinese
culture and it teaches important life lessons that anyone can learn from. Tan depicts in her
stories how much the mother s struggled in China to get to America, so their kids could have a
better life in America. These parables that the parents are going to pass on to their kids teach
important life lessons that they have learned in China and teaching it to them here in America.
The parables all have one thing in common and that they all teach lessons that the parents have
learned in China and brought it with them to pass onto their kids so they won t make the same
mistake like them. The moms in The Joy Luck Club all want different for their daughters and
don t want them to be oppressed like they were back in China. In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan
uses parables to pass on knowledge and lessons learned back in China to their daughters so they
won t make or have the same problems they had in China. Through the use of the second parable,
Tan shows how they use parables to teach kids to respect their parents and listen to them. Tan
explains in the parable how this daughter didn t listen to her mother and when the daughter got
on her bicycle and hurried away she fell immediately onto the ground. This respect of the parents
or elders was ingrained in kids in China, but in America it s a lot different. The moms in The Joy

would listen to them like how they would of in China. My mother had a superstition about
certain dangers that can harm children, so she used The Twenty Six Malignant Gates so her
daughter won t do harmful things (Tan 124). Anmei used the Twenty Six Malignant Gates to
discipline her daughter Rose so she would stay out of trouble and so she would listen to her
mother. Anmei s use of the Twenty Six Malignant Gates discipline her daughter is a good idea
because Rose can t read Chinese she has to listen and believe what her mother is telling her. Tan

was my first exposure to CFA piled foundations. I led a successful value engineering exercise to
change the basement and exterior retaining walls specifications from RC concrete to precast
concrete, saving valuable time on the construction programme and reducing H S risks during
construction. I co ordinated the logistical planning for the 324m3 basement concrete pours and
643m3 ground floor slab. The external retaining wall was over 5m high, I was involved in the
