2. Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay
Corporate Governance
The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate
disclosure and force changes in the auditing of publicly traded companies. The first thing that SOX
has an improvement is on the responsibility of company s financial reports and disclosure which is
connected with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial
statement personally. If the chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top manager
knowing or willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison.
Also, if the company had the accounting restatement due to the manager s misconduct, he still has
to give up the bonuses or profits made from selling the company s stock.
Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee s
independence form the company and its responsibility regarding the company s auditors. The audit
committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company s chief executive CEO,
chief financial officer CFO or other top managers accounting decision. Also, the audit committee
member must be independent from the top management and have the responsibility like approving
many audit and non audit services.
What s more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to
perform the extensive internal control tests. Which include an internal control report of annual
audits.

3. creativity within the creative industries
This essay will discuss about the creativity within the creative industries and creative economy .
Creativity is the new word and the new value in economy. A class of creative people is replacing
white and blue collars changing the way the world used to define the society in the last centuries.
Creative industries can flourish in dense populated areas where are possible multiple and continued
connections between creative people. Although governments are trying to introduce the teaching of
creativityin the educational system to foster the growth of the creative economy, creativity is
sometimes suppressed due to the high risk of the investments that creative industries requires.

More deeply, the whole idea of creative industries describes the convergence of the creative arts
(represented by the individual talent) with the cultural industries (represented by mass scale),
linking them in the new context of the media technologies. Moreover in the creative industries the
individual creative worker is simultaneously involved with large creative enterprises. Often these
corporates are also a mix of public and private partnership. Indeed government agencies and
universities are involved in the growth of some of the biggest creative clusters, such as the Silicon
Valley and the creative industries of London.
According to Howkins and Florida, creative industries can flourish in dense populated areas, like
big cities, where people are free to share ideas. Howkins takes Hollywood as an early example of
a creative city, where, in the late 1920s, people from all over the world moved to take part to the
growth of this media giant. Landry describes London as one of the best example of city where the

4. Farmer, Political Boss, and Immigrant
Farmer, Political Boss, and Immigrant
Various people from the late nineteenth century held diverse opinions on political issues of the
day. The source of this diversity was often due to varying backgrounds these people experienced.
Three distinct groups of people are the farming class, the political bosses, and the immigrants, who
poured into the country like an unstoppable flood. These groups of people also represented the
social stratification of the new society, which had just emerged from rapid industrialization. These
three groups had large differences in many aspects such as power, amount of money, and influence
in political events of the day. The political boss dominated local city governments and pretended to

The prices of staple goods dropped dramatically from the1860s to the 1890s. The farmers were
losing large amounts of money that they desperately needed. The tariff on manufactured goods
vexed the farmers because even though their own profits were decreasing, the prices of important
manufactured goods were not due to absence of foreign competition. The farmers were further
bothered by the domestic marketing system which allowed numerous middlemen to take large
shares of the profit of agriculture. There was a shortage of credit, which made it difficult to finance
the construction of necessary improvements. The farmers were plagued by numerous natural
disasters including tornadoes, floods, and droughts. These conditions, which could destroy property
and crops, also provided a difficult environment to grow crops. If the crops could not be grown, the
farmer had no means of supporting him and his family. After a boom in the mid 1880s, the
population of western farm states increased enormously. This large influx of people contributed to
the destruction of open range cattle raising. A prolonged drought following these boom years
devastated the farmers and many soon returned East with no money and low morale. Thus, farmers
were dissatisfied with government policy and politicians began to discuss resolutions to their
problems. Many farmers began to

5. The Idea Of Chipotle Company
I.Overview
The idea of Chipotle started with its founder, chairman and co CEO, Steve Ells. His idea was to
offer higher quality food, combined with the speed and convenience of fast food, giving birth to a
new trend: fast casual . Chipotle offers a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito
without the tortilla) and salads made from fresh, high quality raw ingredients, prepared using
classic cooking methods and served in a distinctive atmosphere.
Chipotle opened with a single restaurant in 1993, in 1998 McDonald s made an investment that
allowed Chipotle to grow from 14 stores to about 500 stores in 7 years. McDonalds was a major
contributor to Chipotle s success, notwithstanding McDonalds decision to divest its stake in 2006,
Chipotle has been able to maintain a robust growth ever since and became a huge success. Today
Chipotle operates more than 2,000 restaurants, including 26 Chipotle restaurants outside the US and
14 ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen restaurants, and is an investor in an entity that owns and
operates four Pizzeria Locale restaurants.
One of the success drivers of Chipotle is their emphasis on simplicity and high quality through their
vision of Food with Integrity, where they claim to use the best ingredients that are sustainably
grown and raised responsibly. Coupled with the overall social trend of more conscious food
consumers seeking for healthier options, Chipotle s offering seems like the perfect formula for
growth.

6. Aquinas Cosmological Argument Analysis
In the Cosmological argument, we are presented with a very sound argument. In this argument,
Aquinas is answering the question of why there has to be a first cause and why the first cause is
God. He tells us that everything that exist in this universe needs an explanation for why it exist.
Secondly, Aquinas tells us that all the objects that exist now were caused to exist by other objects
before them and this cycle goes on. Thirdly, he tells us the universe couldn t possibly be something
that goes on infinitely. Aquinas thinks there has to be something that caused this a first cause.
Lastly, Aquinas tells us the only possible thing that caused all of this is God. In this paper, I will be
defending Aquinas Cosmological Argument. Aquinas first premise is everything, every person,
plant, or object, that exist in this universe needs an explanation for why it exist. I believe there is
a logical reason for why everything exist and everything that happens has an explanation. For
example, we need water to survive. If we don t have water, we will eventually die of dehydration.
We need some of the smallest things in life. If we were to apply this premise to the universe, a

7. A Research On Enterprise Risk Management
Enterprise Risk Management
Introduction
The business environment is constantly changing; it is unpredictable, extremely volatile and
complex. This makes businesses exposed to risk because of the nature of the environment. It is
therefore important for businesses to make strategic decisions on how to either reduce or make the
effect of the risk less severe as much as possible. Businesses have to identify and manage their risks
to ensure their success and continuation. According to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations
of the Treadway Commission (COSO), Uncertainties present both risks and opportunities, with
potential to erode or enhance value.i Risk management is an increasingly important business driver
and stakeholders have become much more concerned about risk. The 2008 2009 global financial
crisis and the rapidly deteriorating global economy has created a context in which companies now
face risks that are more complex, more interconnected, and potentially more devastating than ever
before. Failure to adequately acknowledge and effectively manage risks associated with decisions
being made throughout the organization can and often do lead to potentially catastrophic results.ii
Risk may be a driver of strategic decisions, it may be a cause of uncertainty in the organization or
it may simply be embedded in the activities of the organization. A good Risk Management program
means that the company is able, first of all to identify, then to measure risks, to project, to

9. Track Multi Target As Camera Motion Essay
MCMC particle filter
In this project, it is challenging issue to track multi target as camera motion is unknown. To deal
with this issue and targets occlusion, the camera parameters are calculated and targets were also
tracked within the 3D coordinates [W. Choi] at the same time. To be specific, it is aimed 1) to
solve the multi object tracking issue by using a single non calibrated camera, [W. Choi] 2). to deal
with complicated scenes in which multiple pedestrians are moving and occluding each other [W.
Choi] at the same time, 3). to calculate the 2D/3D trajectories within the camera reference system
[W. Choi].
The important task in this project was to calculate camera parameters (such as camera pose and
focal length of a camera) and track objects such as pedestrians as they move in the scene [W.
Choi]. Tracks are helpful in calculating the parameters of a camera by using their velocity and
scale within the image plane; simultaneously, camera parameters can help to follow objects very
robustly as previous important information is available. This enables to calculate object 3D
trajectories in the reference system of a camera. The author used a simplified camera model which
allows finding a powerful compact relationship between the variables such as camera parameters
and target, with the help of projection constraints of a camera. The identification of a handful of
feature tracks which associated with the static background allows adding extra constraints to the
camera

encourage yourself, to keep going no matter the circumstances. I ve always been determined to

like in order to be successful in life you have to have that desire to succeed. Of course there will be
challenges along the road for me but what will definitely help mealong the road will be my
determination of succeeding, with all of my determination I will be able to overcome all of the
challenges this world has to throw at me. I have found from working hard in this world you can
make the impossible, possible. My determination and drive of succeeding has really set me apart
from other people throughout the years. For example, It was my first cross country meet as a
middle schooler the heat was unbearable. It was so hot outside you could probably cook an egg
on the sidewalk, you could barely feel any breeze of air. Everyone was expecting me to not do so
well since it was my first meet and I had never done this type of thing before. But I was so

for this? and I continued telling people, YES I m going to medal!!. When I was running that race I
just thoughtto myself Be Strong and that s what was keeping me strong, my family and friends
that were cheering me on was another big thing that was keeping me sane throughout the whole
race. I medaled ninth in my race and that was a very big accomplishment for myself. I was very
proud of myself considering I d never done this type of thing before. Being determined really
helped me throughout this whole race and without having that drive of wanting to succeed I

13. Methods of 3D Image Analysis
Introduction
Since the late 1980s, arguably the most successful method of 3D image analysis has been the model
based segmentation approach. This approach, in its most mature form, matches 3D image
information to models which describe not only the expected shape and appearance of a structure,
but also statistically based information about common variations in the structure of interest. In this
way, the natural deviations in organic structures are accounted for in the statistical shape model, or
SSM.
This literature review seeks to present the present stake of the field in terms of representing
structures in this way, through a review of the methods of representing bones. Search algorithms
used to locate and align a model to the image data will then be discussed and described. Techniques
and algorithms used to model the appearance of bones will be analysed and commented on,
including the construction from, and correlation of, bones to their models. Case studies will be
mentioned throughout to demonstrate the application of SSMs to image segmentation needs.
Finally, some further applications of these models will be expanded upon.
Representation of Bones
There are a number of methods in which training data for SSMs can be gathered, and all involve
some type of volumetric image set to have been obtained. This is done primarily through the
modalities of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, and sometimes both in
conjunction (1). Both binary and fuzzy voxel data can

As the Church came into power in the fourth century, it turned on the synagogues with even greater
intensity. Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating, thanks to the influence the bishops

The peer to peer network is a type of network that does not use dedicated network servers for
logging in users or providing secure access to network resources. This type of network lets
clients share resources and have access to whatever they are sharing (i.e. printers). This type of
network would be an excellent choice for small businesses with less than 10 employees because
it enables them to share resources from their computer. These resources can be files, printers,
and Internet connections. This type of network is a cost effective solution due to having less
management or support from outside experts. This type of network setup and usage is simple,
but it is less secure and be vulnerable to security breaches. The second network is the client

the emergence of technology, computer crime has been increasing at rapid rate. The first type of
computer crime that has the potential to cause high levels of distress and damage is cyberstalking.
Cyberstalking can be defined as using the Internet or other electronic means to harass, intimidate,

communications through e mails, chat rooms sites, bulletin boards or social sites such as twitter,
snapchat and Instagram. The motivations for cyber stalking and harassment can range from

In my junior year of high school, I had read the book Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi,
an Egyptian author. The book depicts an Egyptian woman who grew up in a poor home and
experiences difficulties with a obtaining a higher education before she results to other methods to
obtain power. Prior to reading this, I was largely ignorant of the lasting impacts of gender on
education in foreign cultures. I had known the lessons of the American Dream , which states that
everyone has equal opportunity for success. However, based on the novel, my global understanding
had grown to realize that the circumstances are quite different around the world. The book had
shown me the links between gender and education, and that the cultural treatment of women is
sometimes brutal. In the United States, I had seen that men and women have equal opportunity for
education, however the cultural context of Woman at Point Zero displays that traditional gender
roles largely impact an individual s education. The novel showed me that some cultures value men
above women and, thus, their educations are prioritized. The protagonist of the novel is,
consequently, left with a limited education as a result of her gender, while a predominantly male
college is referenced in the novel. Overall, the novel contributed to my global understanding of the

22. Synthetic Fibers And Its Effects On The Body
2.2.2.2Elastic fibres
Elastic fibres are 1 Вµm to 3Вµm in diameter and are loosely arranged in all directions in the
dermis [90]. These fibres are scattered among the collagen bundles and become thicker in the
deeper layers of the dermis [90]. Elastic fibres, as their name indicates, are extremely elastic and
help in the elastic recoil of the skin and that is the reason why they are more abundant in the dermis
of the face, scalp and the extensible organs, such as tendons and arteries [91, 92].
2.2.2.3Extrafibrillar matrix
The extrafibrillar matrix includes a ground substance (glycosaminoglycans), dermal fibroblasts,
dendritic cells, mast cells, histiocytes, blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics [85]. Ground substance
is a gelatinous amorphous substance of sugar and proteins (glycoproteins and proteoglycans) that is

24. Film Analysis Of The Movie Life Is Beautiful
When I watched Life is Beautiful I thought the movie was very interesting. I love how Guido is
very hopeful and making sure his son doesn t feel unhappy or know where and what they are
really doing at the concentration camp. In the movie it takes in the late 1930s in Italy. There is
a waiter named Guido that is trying to win over this teacher, which is Dora with his is charm
and sense of humor. They eventually get married and they have a son named Giosue. They are
all very happy until their happiness is interrupted Guido and Giosue are taken away from Dora
and are taken to a concentration camp. Dora doesn t want to leave them alone so she goes on
the train also to be with them. Guido simply doesn t want Giosue to know about where he is and
what s happening so he tells Giosue that it is a game where they are and there is a prize at the
end if they come in first place with the right amount of points. The actors and actresses in Life is
Beautiful were all pretty good in my opinion. My favorite actorin the movie would probably be
Roberto Benigni. I just love how sweet and caring he is to Giosue. He just wants to protect his son
from getting hurt and helping him stay away from any harm or danger. Nicoletta Braschithat plays
Dora. She isn t really in the movie a whole bunch but my favorite scene is where she finds out
Guido and Giosue are being taken away and she makes the people stop the train so she can go with
them. Another one of my favorite actors in the movie

25. Collaboration Is Necessary For Work For Six Years Running
Collaboration is necessary in order to solve problems. Everyone is capable in coming up with
ideas. When everyone applies their skills, mindset, and passions, they will be able to make a new
product. Teamwork contains an infinite number of ideas. Every idea is explored and investigated
to figure out which ones are able to fit into a coherent whole. (Catmull). The absolute ideafor the
ending product is just the beginning of the entire process. It is the collaborating part that leads
the group to the final point. It takes a lot of trust and respect to be able to depend on one another
in order to be successful. An example of a company, who thrives on the meaning of joint effort, is
Google. Google was voted the best place to work for six years running. The company offers their
employees a setting where they can be comfortable sharing ideas; whether it is in their nap pods,
the courtyard, or the lunchroom. (Fortune.com). Usually, collaboration occurs through formal,
scheduled meetings. Now, the best ideas are made during informal, social, creative interactions.
(Knoll.com). Collaboration is becoming progressively significant in the world. One member might
not know everything there is to know, so by incorporating additional associates, a project will be
more prosperous than it might otherwise be.
An important part of the collaborative process is allowing oneself to make mistakes. People
cannot afford to be afraid of being wrong. Mistakes need to stop

Making Schools Safer from Bullying
Have you ever been bullied or witnessed anyone suffering from any form of bullying? If the
answer is yes, then you should know the negative feeling that is created from it. The Youth Internet
Safety Survey, conducted by the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of
New Hampshire, found that eight percent of the youth surveyed had experienced and reported
some form of harassment. An old familiar saying is that Sticks and Stones may break my bones,
but words will never hurt me , which is a lie! Simple bullying is defined as repeated verbal,
physical, and social behaviors that are hurtful to any individual or group of persons. It can include
humiliation, domination, intimidation and all forms of harassment not limited to: race, gender,
disability, or sexual orientation ( nsw.gov.au ). All forms of bullying have been proven to leave
long term effects on the victims. Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider
suicide than non victims, according to studies by Yale University ( Bullying Statistics ). It is not
just students that encourage the bully who victimized, but the students who watch in silence hurt
the victim as well. Bullying leads back to the beginning of time, but in more recent years, it has
become more publicly talked about. Although, the government began to nationally address bullying
and advanced training is being provided to educators

Mrs.Joe is a character that is seen as terrifying and irrationally mean through Pip s eyes. Through
Pip s description, the reader naturally feels sympathetic towards Pip in almost every given
situation. For example, in chapter two when Mrs.Joe threatens Pip with the tar water and the

30. The Influences of Mass Media on Health Trends
The mass media consists of many sources of communication such as newspapers, magazines,
television and radio, amongst other media outlets, of which are used to inform, educate, influence,
and entertain an audience. These forms of communication help construct a person s perception
because the media use platforms to influence opinion, of which is made possible due to how the
media organisations use their resources. The modern media are able to change people s
perspectives by introducing them to modern knowledge. In particular, the media has a great
influence on health trends, due to them being the main source of information to the public, and
therefore they have a greater responsibility to present the facts because irresponsible reporting can
result in consequences, such as widespread moral panic, financial failure for businesses and may
potentially be life threatening. Evidence to support this statement comes from the increase of the
term obesity epidemic used by the media, in particular The New York Times, of whom covered
this throughout 751 reports between 1990 and 2001. The obesity epidemic caused a moral panic
amongst the public because the media defined it as a social issue due to the news story being less
significant to theme. The information presented is influential to the public as it shapes their
perception towards obesity. However, the media tend to portray overweight individuals negatively,
of which reinforces stigma and ultimately results in the

31. Rhetorical Analysis Of Atos Before Hos By Michael Kimmel
Rhetorical Analysis Of Michael Kimmel Bros Before Hos In Michael Kimmel s article, Bros
Before Hos Kimmel is convincing his audience to realize how idiotic society s definition of
masculinity. Michael is opening up the eyes of young men to realize that they should not be
influenced by society s belief of masculinity. Kimmel has to prove to his audience that he is
trustworthy to listen and learn all the information he is going to inform them with. In Kimmel s
article the audience is a specific set of genderand ages. The audience is introduced early in the
article, paragraph 1 Kimmel states his audience is men. Though the audience is men, Kimmel is
trying to influence about not making foolish acts to prove manliness to, young men. The way
Kimmel talks about his interviews in the article, it is proven the audience is young. One of the
ways the audience can be determined is by an exemplification of the first rule of Brannon s rules
of masculinity. Rule one says, No Sissy Stuff!, Being a manmeans not being a sissy (Kimmel 478).
In Brannon s first rule, the vocabulary word sissy is not a formal word, thus meaning Kimmel s
audience is not well educated or mature enough for a larger vocabulary. Another Example of the
audience is towards the end of the article, Kimmel uses a statistic about a certain age group.
Kimmel says on page 482, Men ages 19 29 are three times less likely to wear seat belts than
women the same age. Through that example, the reader will know the audience is definitely
younger men. In Kimmel s article, the purpose is to inform young men that the Guy Code is not
the way to prove masculinity, and can be dangerous in doing so (Kimmel 483). Kimmel presents
to his readers that society s understanding of man hood is foolish through various interviews with
different guys (Kimmel 479). One interview Kimmel did was with Mike, a 20 year old at Wake
Forest (Kimmel 479). Mike says, My older brothers were always on my case, calling me a pussy
if I didn t want to play football or wrestle (par 10). Through listening and understanding Mike s
interview one could find it offensive the way his brothers were calling him a pussy just because he

33. Abusive Relationships In The Stranger
In The Stranger, the author exposes the audience to many unhealthy relationships that may or may
not be identified. In part one of The Stranger the novel introduces Salamano, Meursault s neighbor,
and his dog who is in an abusive relationship some may consider physical and verbal. This type of
relationship is most remembered throughout the book because it is physical abuse but is it so
different from the relationship Meursault had with his deceased mother? Some readers argue that
no harm was inflicted onto the mother by Meursault, therefore, cannot be considered an abusive
relationship but neglect is still on the table for a factor in their connection. The correlation between
Salamano and his dog can be compared to Meursault and his mother in many ways but each link has
different details. The relationship Salamano has with his dog is more loving than what Meursault
had with his mother. The relationship Salamano had with his dog is very similar to the relationship
Meursault had with his mother. They are similar in the sense that both are considered abusive
relationships due to the treatment they gave to their loved ones. In the novel, it states Then he beats
the dog and swears at it. ... Then they both stand there on the sidewalk and stare at each other, the
dog in terror, the man in hatred. (27). This shows how Salamano treated his dog every day for
eight years which caused the dog to cower in fear whenever around him. Meursault also did not

Unfortunately, freshwater snails like many other river species across North America are

290 species are of conservation concern nationwide. The decline of freshwater snails began in the
early twentieth century. Dam construction and other channel modifications, siltation, and industrial

result, the species richness and the abundance of freshwater snails have declined dramatically. This
decline has been especially pronounced in the Southeastern United States where these animals are

English IV/ P7

Behaving Accordingly
The Renaissance Era was widely influenced by many of the playwrights and literary geniuses of
this time. The way people spoke, acted, or treated others was incredibly different from our societal
norms . For each citizen there was a certain level of maturity, poise, and etiquette expected of
them. The three social classes consisted of the Clergy( or the church), the nobles and ruling class,
and the peasants, merchants, and townspeople. People of the Renaissance era valued extremely
different ideas of behavior , romantically, at the table, or even just as everyday common courtesy.
The first idea of proper ways to act were believed to be inherited from Greece and Rome. The
original idea of etiquette derives from when people started to live together in large groups and
little things made people realize that getting along was better and easier than fighting and arguing
constantly. The word etiquette originates from King Louis XIV. He would have a letter posted on

above all else, whereby she will be able to entertain graciously every kind of man . Everyday
physical activities such as horse riding, or weaponry was considered unladylike and therefore
inappropriate for women to do. Entertaining and charming men was a job for women, it was
considered their main priority. Women were not to act too direct nor too modest when socially

kept constant.
Variable 1. Examined how lipase, reacts to different types and amount of fat.
This data refers to the hypothesis as full cream milk had a faster rate of reaction due to the
amount of fat present in the milk. This was measured by using a pH probe as it was ... Show more

As a growing and developing nation scientists have found that lipase can be used in the detergent
industry. Microbial lipases are an important group of biotechnologically valuable enzyme, because
of their versatility of their applied properties and ease of mass production (Hasan et al., 2010).
Scientists have discovered that due to lipases microbial origin, and enzymatic properties they are
particularly important for industrial use as they can catalyse a specific reaction. They have been
used in the detergent industry as they can reduce the environmental load of detergent products as
the chemical used in conventional detergents and reduced (Hasan et al., 2010). The function of
lipases in the detergent industry is to remove fatty residues and clean clogged drains. This
application makes reference to the experiment, as there are many different types detergents on the
market, some which would have a faster rate of reaction. The other real life application which
makes reference to the concentration of lipase is, lipase being used in the food processing, flavor
development and improving the quality of food. Through alteration of chemical compounds of
vegetable oil with nutritionally important structured

44. Comparing Dynastic China And Ancient Egypt
Introduction:
Looking over the shoulder of history, Dynastic China and Egypt were perhaps two of the most
substantial, long lasting, and abiding civilizations. A dynasty is simply defined as a succession of
rulers from the same family. The ancient Egyptian dynasty was present from about 3100 to 332
BC. It was ruled in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Ancient dynastic China, which lasted from about
1000 BC to 500 AD, lay in the Yellow River Valley. It can be seen that both of these societies
shared quite a few cultural similarities. For example, in Egypt, as well as China, polytheism was a
dominant religious belief. Also, they were both primarily well developed in technology and tools.
Egypt had developed many apparatuses such as the 365 day ... Show more content on

But, they definitely were not limited to simply working the home. There were many professions
and jobs offered to women at the time. It also should be noted that the range of jobs that were
available for them were based on social class rather than gender. On top of working within the
home, attending to household chores and caring for their children, the lower class women of
the ancient Egyptian society also had the duty of working outside tending livestock and in the
fields, especially during harvest. Occupations such as skilled weavers, mourners, musicians,
stewards, composers, singers, dancers, beer brewers, and bakers were also accessible to women
of any social class. Educated or wealthy women were offered professional positions such as
administrators, priestesses, or supervisors. In some instances, they became judges, overseers,
governors, doctors, or even prime ministers because of their ability to read and write. If a
woman held the same job as a man, she received the same income and rations as a man received
for the work, and so her wages made an important contribution to the family s wealth. Unlike the
Egyptian women s broad range of career options, the average Chinese women s work centered
primarily on the home. Tasks such as preparing food, cleaning and looking after children were the
norm for the majority of women in ancient China. They were expected to have many children and
most women felt the pressure to bear a son. It was common for women to take up manual labour in
the home. Spinning, weaving and sewing were common occupations. Some peasant women worked
in the fields with their husbands. As per the dominant religion of the time, Confucian, women were
inferior to men. Men and women were not equal in Confucius s eyes. The only real job in which
the ancient Chinese women had was to bear

45. Canada Has Not Taken Responsibility for the Behavior of...
Canada, which is the headquarters of Barrick Gold Corporation, runs 60 percent of the world s
mining corporations across the globe. Notwithstanding the fact that even though it is the forerunner
in this industry, Canada has not taken the lead on mediating or taking responsibility for the
behavior of their corporations abroad. The consequence of this carelessness is, Canada has drawn
criticisms from around the world, first from the environmental, religious and human rights
organizations, and now increasingly from international institutions, such as the United Nations.

Many violent clashes have also occurred between police and activists opposing Barrick s mining
operations in Peru, Chile, and Argentina.
Subsequently, the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman of the World Bank issued a report refuting
LEAT s claims of mass murder and the number of people displaced, based on evidence supplied by
the Tanzanian government and Barrick Gold challenged this evidence. Similarly, Barrick s North
Mara mine suffered great human rights abuses under its predecessor, Canada s Placer Dome.
Lissu, who has been jailed for anti mining activism, claims that Bar rick s security operatives at
the North Mara mine have since been linked to six violent deaths and that the killings are part of a
strategy to silence mine critics.
Most of the conflict arises over whether the local tradition of alluvial mining became illegal under
arrangements and contracts held by the Porgera gold mine. ATA claimed that no Ipili agreed to
give up traditional rights. The company has hired a 400 men security team, which it calls Asset
Protection Department, to guard the facility. Over the years, what started as a congenial
arrangement has turned into small scale armed conflict that has caused hundreds of injuries,
sometimes 40 to 50 a day, according to

story starting on Page 6. Santiago deals with a recurring dream and he does not understand why
he is having it. This dream occurs every time Santiago sleeps under a sycamore tree that grows
out of the ruins of a church. In this dream a child tells Santiago to go after a treasure located by
the Egyptian pyramids. Santiago is confused by the message of the dream and goes to a gypsy
woman to try and understand the dream. She says that he should go to Egyptin pursuit of the
treasure. This leads to Santiago meeting a magical man who turns out to be the King of Salem.
He says that going to Egypt is Santiago s personal legend and he should set off for his journey
tomorrow. This journey leads to Santiago arriving in Tangier and a robber taking all of the
money Santiago brought in his journey towards the Egyptian pyramids. This leaves Santiago by
himself as he now has to find a way to push through adversity and get to his destination. Dream

47. Environmental Protection Agency Essay
1)When was the environmental protection agency (EPA) formed? 1970 What events prompted
its formation? The U.S. was rocked by a series of waste land toxic materials, the earth s
automatic, self cleansing, life support systems became increasingly threatened and consequently
people from all walks of life and from every part of the political spectrum were expressing their
anxieties on the streets and this happened to b the largest public American demonstration ever seen
in America. Hence prompting President Richard Nixon transmitted Reorganization Plan No. 3 to
the United States Congress by executive order, creating the EPA as a single, independent agency
from a number of smaller arms of different federal agencies. 2)How did... Show more content on

The citizen suit provision of the Clean Water Act is an important tool to protect and improve
rivers, creeks, streams, and wetlands especially as state agencies may not have the resources to
conduct regular water quality monitoring on every water body. Citizen involvement in
monitoring and reporting pollution problems is key to watershed protection; hereby helping the
government enforce the laws. 4)The expression canary in the coal mine means an early warning
of danger. (Coal miners would carry canaries or small animals with them into mines to detect
deadly but odorless and tasteless methane gas.) a)To what does the expression canary in the coal
mine apply in poisoned waters? I will say that as much as the expression Canary in the coal mine
implies an early warning of danger in mines so does it in water too. In this case the fish directly
helps us know the extent to which our ecological sphere is damaged, and helps humans to take
the necessary precautions to save the environment. 5)Twenty million Americans took to the
streets for the first earth day in 1970 as a result of pollution they could see an smell: the
Cuyahoga river in Cleveland burned, with flames that towered eight stories high; the 1969 oil
spill in Santa Barbara closed virtually all the beaches in southern California; people had declared
Lake Erie dead. a)How according to the film, have both pollution and people s reaction to Earth day

48. Egypt And The Persian Empires Essay
1.Describe how Egypt and the Persian empires used the idea of God for political purposes.
The Egyptian Empire believed that the Pharaohs were the messengers of the divine world with
authority that is derived from a changeless order established at creation , meaning that
everything they say is directly from the gods who have had that relationship with the Pharaohs
since day one (assigned reading 9/15 paragraph 2). The Pharaoh is the Egyptian s image of the
gods and lord of the entire Egyptian domain (assigned reading 9/15 paragraph 2). If the Egyptian
s are in need of guidance or wisdom, they look to the Pharaohs to give them to word of the gods.
If a Pharaoh were to die, it is said that the rest of the empire would barely notice due to the firmly
established static history (assigned reading 9/15 paragraph 2). The Egyptian Empire had
political stability for quite a long time and they were often depicted as a stable domain while
foreigners and Egyptian enemies were seen as chaotic. Due to being chaotic, these groups
belonged to the world of chaos and evil had to be annihilated or subdued (assigned reading 9/15
paragraph 2). Since the Egyptian s Pharaohs were divine messengers of the gods, they used the
Pharaohs rulings as a justification for political purposes. The reading states God was Egyptian
supporting Egyptian interests over and against all other interests , meaning God was for the
Egyptians and agreed with all their actions (assigned reading 9/15 paragraph

49. The Past Semester A Core Class I Took Was Politics Of...
The past semester a core class I took was Politics of Climate Change. I ve learned many new
ideas and concepts about climate change. Now that I am educated on the matter and can form my
own opinion, I was curious about what the people I surround myself with think about climate
change. I asked many different people about their thoughts and opinions on climate change. I
questioned my tutors, stem major friends, my parents, and siblings. I was most interested with
what my mother, Oyindamola Eletu, and my sister, Omobukola Solebo, had to say about this
important topic. I was particularly interested in what my immigrant, democratic, and religious
mother would say on the tasking situation. My sister is a high school biology teacher in
California who graduated from TCNJ in 2014 with a double major in education and biology.
After interviewing them both, I began to compare and contrast their views and how they came to
them. Incidentally, the woman of my family all believe that climate change is real and an
important matter at hand. We all think it should be handled and decided on now and stop being
put on the back burner. My mother and sister had similar views but different ways of getting to
that decision. My mom does not particularly like science or take interest in its findings, she doesn t
have a degree from America, and did not learn about climate change growing up. But she watched
what was reported on television and got educated by the things they showed her. She experienced

50. Essay on Symbolism In The Veil
Symbolism In The Veil The veil that the minister wears in The Ministers Black Veil , by Nathanial
Hawthorne represents the emphasis on man s inner reality, and those thoughts and feelings which
are not immediately obvious. As Hawthorne explored this inner nature, he found the source of
dignity and virtue, and certain elements of darkness. When the minister first walks out of his home
wearing the veil, everyone is astonished. This one man in this village decides to be a nonconformist
and wearthis veil without explanation. No one understands why the minister would wear such a
veil for no reason at all. This is where all the assumptions begin to linger. All of the villagers have a
story for why the veil is there. These people are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet perhaps the pale faced congregation was almost as fearful a sight to the minister, as his black
veil to them. (1281) In reality the veil represents the secrets everyone is hiding within themselves.
The unifying theme is the conflict between the dark, hidden side of man and the standards imposed
by his puritanical heritage. Hawthorne brings evil and unauthorized desire into the way of puritan
life, and in so doing suggests a insightful truth that is disturbing in its implication, that is to say that
we can never hope to know each other s true selves. The themes in the story are suggested by the
veil symbol, the tension between the minister and the community. Every person has something to
hide from the world. The veil is symbolic for the cover up of peoples secrets. Although most
people would not wear a veil, the minister is proving a point. By wearing a simple black veil Mr.
Hooper is making all the villagers evaluate their everyday actions in life. The symbolic value of the
black veil lies in the physical and mental dilemma that it creates between the minister and his
environment, and the guilt it conveys. Many people believe that the face provides information about
a person s primary characteristics, therefore, predicting a persons possible behavior. As a result, by
