- Small farmers in Nepal have difficulty accessing formal banking services, with only 40,000 out of hundreds of thousands of farmers receiving loans despite government policies promoting agricultural financing. High interest rates from cooperatives and microfinance also increase small farmers' production costs.
- Only about 16% of farmers have access to agricultural extension services from the government to assist with crop and disease issues, and it is unlikely the current human resources can reach all farmers.
- Record keeping of crop production is also lacking, with no system to track what crops were planted where and when, and what production levels were.
- Local traders also still do not fully trust the local supply chain and find importing from India easier and more reliable.
