What is Mailchimp?

It is an
email
marketing
software

That helps in building
email lists or subscribers

Creating newsletters easily
through its templates

Sends out campaigns to
your lists

And links them to your
websites and social media
accounts

To start, open Google
Chrome browser for this
tutorial

In the address bar, type
mailchimp.com

Then press ‘Enter’ on your
keyboard

This homepage will appear

Setting Up
Your Account

Click ‘Sign Up Free’

Fill this
up with
your
email

Your
Username

And then
your
password

Take note
of this
when you
set your
password

Then click ‘Create My
Account’

Check the email sent to the
address you used in
signing up

Open the email from
Mailchimp

Click ‘Activate Account’

Tick this box to confirm
that you’re not a robot

Click ‘Confirm Signup’

Fill out these fields with your
first name and last name

Scroll down and answer
these questions

Just click the drop
down arrows

and select from the drop
down menu

Scroll down again and fill up
the other fields

Specify your industry

Select your time zone

If you prefer, you may
upload or take a photo

Click ‘Save and Get Started’

Creating a List

On your dashboard, click
‘Lists’

It is where
you’re going
to store your
contacts or
subscribers

Tip: Remember, you can
always click on this image to
get back to your dashboard
anytime

Click on ‘Create List’

Type in a name you
want to give to your List

See the example that will
appear once you click inside
each box

Type in a ‘From email
address’ that you want to
use

A default ‘from name’

And a reminder why the
recipient is receiving
the email

Scroll down and tick the
notifications that you
want to receive

Click ‘Save’

You’ll now see your ‘List’
name written here

List Settings

Click on ‘Settings’

Select
List name
and
defaults

Scroll down and find
this part

Then tick the boxes

Scroll down and click
‘Save List and Campaign
Defaults’

Making a
Signup Form

On the next page, click on
‘Signup Forms’

Click on ‘General Forms’

Click the drop
down menu

And you’ll
see a
menu of
forms and
response
emails

Let’s
select the
sign up
form

Scroll down
to see this
ready made
form which
you can edit

Hover over here
to see the tools

Click to add a message
to your visitor

Type and edit your
message here

Using these tools

Click ‘Save & Close’

Remove or add a field by
clicking on the (+) or (-)

Type the word ‘DELETE’ to
confirm

Then click ‘Delete’

You may edit a field
using the settings at
the right

Tick this to
make a
selected field
as a ‘required
field’

Scroll up and click on
‘Design It’

Select the page
background color here

You may remove the text
header and add image here

Change the body
foreground color

Changing the button color

Changing this
button color
when hovered

into this color

To change the text in this
button

Select ‘Translate it’

Change this text

Into something like this

This is now the form
we made

Note that you can also add
your logo on this form

Hover over this box and
click ‘edit’

Click the image icon

Click ‘Upload’

Select the image from your
computer files

Click ‘Open’

You can link this image to
your website URL

Edit with Photo Editor

Select ‘Resize’

Type in new dimensions

Click ‘Apply’

Click ‘Save’

Click ‘Save & Insert Image’

Adjust the position of the
image and the text

Then click ‘Save & Close’

This is now the revised form

Let us test the actual form
in the URL provided

Note that you can use the URL
to link the form to an image or
text in your website so your site
visitor will be directed to the
sign up form

To test, copy and paste
the link in the address
bar of a new tab

Press ‘enter’ and you’ll see
this. Looks familiar?

Fill this up using your
other email address

Then your first name

And click this button

On the next page, you’ll
see this ‘thank you’ form

Where the visitor can do

Adding
Subscribers

Depending on the number of
people who signed up in this
form

This number here on the
list will change

But if you want to add
subscribers, click here

You have 2 options

First is to add them
manually

Where you can only add
one person at a time

Fill up these fields

Tick these boxes

Make sure you have
permission from the
people you are adding
to your list

And click ‘Subscribe’

Now, it has been
automatically added to
the list

Let’s try the second option

This is recommended
when you’re adding a big
list of subscribers

Select ‘Copy/paste from
file’

Click ‘Next’

Copy a list from your file
and paste it here

Tick this box

And then click ‘Next’

Click ’Edit’

Select ‘First Name’

Click ‘Save’

Now that all columns are
matched, click ‘Next’

Now that you’re all set to
import, categorize
imported subscribers

Tick ‘Auto-update my
existing list’ box

Click ‘Next’

Your imported
subscribers were now
added to your list

Which you can all see as
you scroll down

Editing
Templates

Click on ‘Templates’

On the next page click
‘Create Template’

Select 1 column template

You can now start
designing your email

Hover over any section
at the left

Use the buttons here to move,
edit, copy or delete a block

Click the pencil icon

Type in at this right
section…

the preview of your email’s
content

You can drag these blocks
at the right side

to insert to your email
template at the left

Click on the design tab to
customize your template

And the comments tab to get
feedbacks on your campaign

Add your logo or
image here

Click ‘Browse’ or drop
files from your computer

Image has now been added

Picture size should be around
600px to 800px wide

Click here to fix

Click ‘Apply’

You may choose from these
other editing tools

Click ‘Save’

Then click Save & Close

You may also link this
image to your website

Choose web address

Type in here your web
address (URL)

Then click ‘Insert’

To add your logo, drag an
image block here

Click ‘Browse’

Select you logo image

Click ‘Link’

Add your website URL

To compose the body of
your email, click the
pencil icon

Then change the content
here

Use these tools to edit
your text

Then click ‘Save & close’

From the blocks at the
right, drag a button here

Change the content of the
button here

Click on the down arrow

Choose where you want to
link it to (e.g. file)

Click ‘Upload’

Select the file

Click ‘Open’

The file URL will be
displayed here

Next, hover your mouse
over here

Click the pencil icon

At the right page, add your
social media account URL

Click here to add another
service

Or click the minus sign to
remove

Choose here if you want to
edit the style or settings

You may edit the last block
or leave it as it is

Tip: Always remember to
click ‘save and close’

At the upper right, click on
‘Preview and Test’

Tip: It is recommended to
always do this previewing
and testing of your email
before sending it

Click ‘Enter preview mode’
to view your actual email

Then click ‘send a test mail’
to check

Type in the email
address where you want
to send it to

Click ‘Send a test’

Click ‘Ok’

Now, it’s time to check that
sent email, same as we did
in the previous sections

When done, click ‘save and
exit’

Give your template a
name

Then click ‘Save’

Creating and
Sending Campaigns

On the header menu,
click ‘Campaigns’

Click ‘Create Campaign’

Choose regular campaign

Select
’ Send
to
entire
list’

Click ‘Next’ at the right
bottom corner

Name your Campaign

Type in the email subject

At the right section,
personalize the ‘To’ field
by ticking this box

Click ‘Next’

Choose ‘Saved Templates’

Select the template that we
have created earlier

Click ‘Change Template’

Just edit if needed and when
you’re done, click ‘Next’

Now, you are all set to
send

You may preview and do
the testing again like in
the previous section

At the bottom right
corner, choose between
these two

If you choose ‘schedule’,
select the date here

Then set the time of
sending here

Scroll down and click
‘Schedule Campaign’

If you chose ‘Send’

Click
‘Send
now’

And your
campaign
is on its
way

You can now check the
test email through the
email address that you
used in testing the sign
up form

GOOD JOB!

Now, let’s go back and
choose RSS campaign

RSS campaign is a
campaign that gets sent
out automatically
whenever you update
your blogposts.

Add here your posts page
URL

Select the days that you
want it to be sent out

Tick this box so that
Mailchimp will
automatically resize images

Click ‘Next’ at the
bottom right corner

Name your campaign

Click again ‘Next’ at the
bottom right corner

Select Basic RSS

You may opt not to edit this
template

Or you may add your logo
here

And add social share
buttons

bottom right corner

If you see a remark like
this, scroll down

and find the issue, then
click ‘Resolve’

You can either edit this text
or delete the placeholder

Let’s delete it

Click ‘Delete’

bottom right corner

Now, you are all set to
send

Again, you can preview
and test

When done, click ‘Start
RSS’ at the bottom right
corner

Click ’Start Campaign’

And it’s done!

Using the Reports

Using the reports will help
you track how your
campaigns are performing

On the header menu,
click ‘Reports’

Here you can see how many
opened the emails you sent

And how many clicked the
links

Click on ‘View Report’

You’ll see how many
opened, clicked and
bounced

At the top of
the page, click
on ‘Activity’

To see the
other reports
that you can
review

When
you
select
‘Sent to’

You’ll see
here how
each of
them
responded

When you
select bounced

You can see here soft bounces
and hard bounces

HARD BOUNCE REASONS
Recipient email
address does not exist Domain name does
note exist
The subscriber had
mistakenly
unsubscribed and will
need to opt back in
Recipient email server
has completely
blocked delivery.

SOFT BOUNCE REASONS
Mailbox is full (over
quota)
Recipient email server
is down or offline
Email message is too
large

And you can see who is that
subscriber

It is important to keep an eye on
the ‘bounced’ number to ensure
that your campaigns are really
reaching your subscribers and
that you’re following spam laws.
