What is IFTTT?

IFTTT is an
abbreviation for
“If this then that”

It is a web-based
service that lets you
create series of

commands that
are conditional
and triggered by

changes in one
web service then
affects another

In simple words, it
connects your apps
together through
automation

Let’s start by opening a
browser. We’ll use
Google Chrome.

Type ifttt.com in
the address bar

Press the
‘Enter’ key on
your keyboard

You’ll see the homepage

Click on sign-up

Type in your email address

Then your password

Click ‘Create account’

Click ‘this’ to get started

Then click ‘that’

Scroll down and click
‘Continue’

You need to
connect channels to
create recipes

Recipes are the
conditional statements
mentioned earlier

Take note of the illustration

Then click ‘Continue’

By the way, you have to
confirm your email

to activate your IFTTT
account.

Go to the email account
that you used to sign up
IFTTT.

Open the email from
IFTTT

And click ‘Confirm
your account’

Proceed to select channels
by clicking on them

Click on ‘Show more
Channels’

Channels that you have
chosen will be marked

Click ‘Continue’

IFTTT is finding
recipes for you

Then this screen appears

Scroll down and click
‘More Recipes’ to view
more options

Click on a recipe
you like

Let’s try this one

Connect the channels to
create recipe

Click ‘Connect’ for the
Instagram channel

Type in your
Instagram username

Your password

Then Log in

Click ‘Authorize’

That’s great!
Now click ‘Done’

Next, we’ll connect to
Dropbox channel

Type in your Email

Type in your password

Then click ‘Sign in’

Click ‘Allow’

Another great job!
Click ‘Done’

Click ‘Add’

Your recipe is created

Click ‘Done’

Your recipe

Scroll down

Fill up the action fields

Click in the box

Click on the flask icon
that will appear

Click the drop
down arrow

Select an ingredient,
try ‘Caption’

Click ‘Add ingredient’

Click ‘Update’

A note appears:
“Recipe updated”

Let’s now try if it works

Upload a photo to your
Instagram account

Then proceed to check
your Dropbox account

First, you
may check it
on your
computer
folders

And here
you’ll see
that an
IFTTT folder
was created

When you
open the
IFTTT folder,
you’ll see an
Instagram
folder

It has been
automatically added

Open this
folder

And you’ll
find the
photo you
just
uploaded to
Instagram

Well, it works! 
Congratulations!

Now, you may also
check your
Dropbox account

Sign in to your account

After signing in, you’ll
see this IFTTT folder

Click on it

And you’ll see an
Instagram folder

Click it and you’ll find
the photo you uploaded

Great job!
You have successfully
created and used
one recipe.

Let us now try
another recipe

Click ‘My Recipes’

This is your first recipe

Click ‘Create a Recipe’

Click ‘this’

Look for a trigger channel
or search for it here

Type in your
trigger channel

You must be
logged in to your
account

Click ‘Connect’

Click ‘Allow’

Click ‘Done’

Click ‘Continue to the
next step’

Choose a trigger

Click ‘Create Trigger’

Click ‘that’

Type in your action
channel here

Click this icon

Click ‘Connect’

Type in your Email

Type in your password

Then click ‘Authorize’

Click ‘Done’

Then click this

Click this action

Complete the action
fields

Click in this box

To choose ingredient,
follow the same
procedure

as you did in the
first recipe

Click ‘Add Ingredient’

Click ‘Create Action’

Click ‘Create Recipe’

Here’s the new created
recipe

It’s now time to check
if this second recipe
works

Go to your Youtube
account

Hover your mouse on
a video

Point your mouse on
this clock icon

And click it to add the
video in your ‘Watch
Later’ list

Now, go to your
pocket account and
see if the

video you have just
chosen has been
added to your list

In ‘My List’, you can
see that the video was
added

Well, this second one
works, too.

By the way, let’s check
these tools

Click here to turn off
the recipe

The recipe becomes
grey after turning it off

You may turn it on
again

Click here to if you want
to publish the recipe

Click here to check the
recipe

A ‘Recipe checked’
note will appear

Click here to view the log

See your last 100 log
items for a particular
recipe

And lastly, click here
to delete

CONGRATULATIONS!
You may now create
more recipes and let
IFTTT do the work for
you.
