IN PAIR
Do you consider
yourself as a shy
person? Why?
Shyness can be defined as a feeling of
discomfort or inhibition in social or
interpersonal situations that keeps you
from pursuing your goals, either academic
or personal. Shyness results in physical
symptoms like blushing, sweating, a
pounding heart or upset stomach;
negative feelings about themselves;
worries about how others view them; and
a tendency to withdraw from social
interactions.
What is shyness?
Why do people feel shyness?
Why do people feel shyness?
It’s because your brain is registering your
current situation as a threat and wants to get
you out of there. But why is it registering it as a
threat in the first place?
Simply, because, at some point during your life,
you’ve learned that it’s a situation to worry
about. You’ve learned it through social learning
and the lower levels of your brain just
remember that, perceived threat, and wants to
get you away from it.
How can you beat your
weaknesses?
1. Think about why you want to get over
your shyness.
All the things you haven’t done, the
opportunities you have lost, and all the great
ideas you have kept in your mind because of
your fears.
2. Keep in mind a couple of things.
a. don’t compare yourself to others.
b. don’t be afraid of making mistakes.
c. don’t get frustrating.
d. Learn to laugh at yourself.
e. don’t care about what people think or say.
3. Identify your weaknesses.
Make a list of situations that make you feel
shy and find out the reason.
Is it lack of vocabulary, bad pronunciation, etc.
