E-sense is a new communication paradigm that allows devices to communicate by sensing energy patterns, even if they use different wireless standards or are out of normal communication range. It works by constructing an alphabet set based on distinct packet sizes transmitted over WiFi. The receiving device senses the energy burst duration to map it to a packet size and determine the intended E-sense message. While this shows promise, practical challenges exist related to limits in sensing accuracy and distinguishing packet sizes. However, with refinements and potential standardization, E-sense could enable new solutions across application domains by facilitating communication between devices unable to directly interpret signals.
