Reboot Podcast #01 - How self reflection potentially saved a business - the r...rebootio
Derek Flanzraich, CEO of one of the fastest growing health and wellness sites, Greatist, joins Jerry for this episode to share the story of his personal journey over the last 10 months. His journey of introspection started when he attended a CEO bootcamp last October and begin to reflect on a personal challenge, which ultimately lead him to a solution to a business challenge that could have destroyed his business. Derek’s openness and introspection is inspiring, and will inspire you to re-examine how your own stories impact your business and your life.
To have a firm persuasion, to set out boldly in our work, is to make a pilgrimage of our labors, to understand that the consummation of work lies not only in what we have done but who we become while accomplishing the task.
-David Whyte - Crossing the Unknown Sea: Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity
In today’s conversation Jerry is joined by Ben Rubin - Cofounder and CEO of Change Collective - an organization itself that is set on helping people make positive change in their lives. Ben comes to Jerry wondering how he can better deal with the negative inner dialogue. They quickly discover that inner voice, and more specifically the feelings that precede it, are a powerful indicator of an underlying fear. What opportunities exist in exploring that fear?

Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.

7. MY NOTHING TO SOMETHING STORY
first six GenJuice started as a bi-monthly meetup, est. by my co-founder
months
Arielle Scott, at a Berkeley café.
After targeted blogger outreach, Facebook tagging, and a Twitter
campaign, we planned a 13-city tour and raised $10K in
sponsorship.
Over 42 days, we visited 13 cities, 300+ first-time entrepreneurs,
and grew 16K followers, 1 distinct brand, and 1 dynamic tribe
next six We grew to 100+ content contributors and 10K monthly visitors
months
We raised $60K in investment capital, attended SeedStart: startup
accelerator in NYC
When we started, we had no following or established presence online. We
built GenJuice from the ground up.
LESSON: Turn your “have nots” into haves.
8. MY NOTHING TO SOMETHING STORY
GenJuice started as a bi-monthly meetup at a Berkeley café.
Blogger outreach, Facebook tagging, and a Twitter campaign
AT THE END OF IT ALL,
later, we had a 13-city tour and almost $10K in sponsorship.
13 cities, 300+ first-time entrepreneurs, 16K followers, 1
brand, 1 tribe
100+ content contributors, 10K monthly visitors
we failed.
$60K raised, startup accelerator in NYC
After all of this…we failed.
(GenJuice is inactive.)
Turn your “have nots” into your haves.
9. WHY FAILURE IS REMARKABLE
I learned we all have
a story. Most of us
just don’t know how
to tell it (yet).
We have the power
to decide what our
future story will be.
Build a bridge from
the you of today to
the you of
tomorrow.
Turn your “have
nots” into your
haves.

11. GETTING PAID TO DO WHAT I LOVE
My start with my marketing consulting business: I
sold a $250/month contract to do work I despised.
What I quickly learned and applied to my business:
Know your brilliance. Stick to your strengths and
pitch what you love to do.
Know how to bottle your brilliance. Package it into
something you can sell.
Ship and share it with the world. Take it to market.
After applying these principles, I charged clients
$2-$3K/month to do what I was born to do—help
brands grow legs and reach those who need them
most.

13. FEAR & CURIOSITY
Do Love Project started as a side project.
I spent hours interviewing people to find out why they weren’t
doing what they love for a living…because I was curious.
14. DOLOVEPROJECT
I decided to work one-on-one with a couple people I interviewed, to help
them take action on their dreams, and we accomplished more than they
ever imagined in just five weeks.
“While working with Danielle, I was surprised to find that, with a little push, I could put my
ideas into immediate action. Initially, I was very hesitant to start her course because 5 weeks seems
like such a short amount of time, but we did it! Each week I had a different assignment, in which I
completed a photo-shoot, created an artist bio/brand, and had my debut performance, all while
working over time at my job. In other words, I learned that whatever I want "it" to be is possible.!
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with Danielle because I got to know that
she's a great person who authentically wants to see others succeed. My Do Love experience is
only the beginning and knowing that is absolutely mind boggling. I recommend this course for
anyone who wants a jumpstart on his or her wildest dream because it takes an action plan and
a supportive team to create it.”!
Miriam Victoria!
Singer/Songwriter!
15. DOLOVEPROJECT
"Danielle challenges you to take your goals to the next level and never puts a limit, or allows
you to put a limit, on what you can do. !
Before working with Danielle, I felt like I couldn't sell my services and package my soft skills.
She also helped me find a missing piece that would allow me to bridge the two things I'm most
passionate about: music and non-profits. !
If I hadn't worked with Danielle, I honestly wouldn't be pursing my passions, at least not right
now. What started off as a conversation and interview turned into a deep reflection of why I wasn't
following my dreams. Aside from learning how to start a business or put on an event, I learned
that I have to share my passion and gift with the world, by pursing it. !
Today, more than ever, I follow my fear and let it guide me instead of deter me.!
What's next for me? I'm working on putting on my first benefit show. My passion for helping
people find their voice and in turn find their freedom has inspired me to use music to promote social
change by taking a new spin on artist development and non profit fundraising.”!
Meron Medhanie!
Founder, Music Incites Change (MIC)!
16. WHAT KEEPS US FROM MANIFESTING?

“I’m afraid of taking a risk and failing.” (Inaction)

“I need a support network.” (Isolation)
