Personal Narrative Essay On The Game Playoffs
Playoffs It had been a long season, many losses, but many learning moments, we were second to
last in the league and only had about ten wins. The only thing we had going for us, the playoffs.
We had tied the West Kent Hawks and beat two other teams 7 1 and 10 2 to make it here, and
there I was. Sitting in the locker room with a blank stare and hands hanging from my chest
guard, this is usually what happens before games. I was anxious to get on the ice, but neverous
too, because this is how the little caesars playoffs work. You five teams in one division, the top
the teams after a round robin type thing, make it to the playoffs. If you lose in the playoffs, you
go home. We didn t drive all the way to detroit to lose the first matchup and leave. No way.... Show

It was a long waiting game. You could see the other on the other side of the rink. Finally the
zamboni got off, the ice was clear and ready. We hopped on and within a blink the game started
up. The first period was weak on our part, two zero was the ending score of it. Second, four two.
We had to come back Four minutes later 13 scored to make it four to three. The cheers of the
crowd echoed in the arena. Then we went 10 minutes without scoring. With 5 minutes left. I
skated around the defensmen went to my forehand, backhand. Score! It was four to four. Now it
was tied. The last minutes of a tie game are always wild. No one wants to go home. You already
sweating, You ve put in the work. You want to be rewarded. I came to the bench breathing heavy
and tired. They congratulated me on the goal, but with a tie game there was still a job to

Compare And Contrast A Tale Of Two Schools
From the 1860s forward, much focus was in the country was on people and their inherit rights
under the United States constitution. However, even with all men being equal under the law in
the 1940s, many were still segregated and racism was and still is very much alive. School
districts had separate schools for whites and blacks and some systems even had separate schools
for Mexican Americans. Mendez v. Westminster was the first case in 1947 that overruled the
segregation of schools due to raceand language in the Westminster, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and
El Modena school districts of Orange County. This case was a major positive stride in the
desegregation in America at the time. During the case, segregation was proven to be against the 14th

Things were said that were very traumatic to the Mendez and other families defending the honor
of 5,000 Chicano students. The biggest argument from the lead prosecutor, Ogle during the trial
was the Mexican schools gave special instruction to students who didn t speak English and who
were unfamiliar with American values and customs. Such Americanization programs benefited
both Anglos and Mexicans ( A Tale of Two Schools ). Kent, the superintendent for the district,
stated that ...thinking in Spanish, they cannot compete with the other students and advance in the
same grade at the same age (Strum, 2014). During testimony it was also stated that Mexicans
were like pigs who should be kept in pig pens and that they carried lice and many other diseases
because they are so filthy. ( A Tale of Two Schools ). Kent also stated that Mexican s grow faster
physically, but that their brains were a year retarded and therefore segregation was completely
legitimate (Strum, 2014). However, Sylvia and her two brothers took the stand during the trial and
both spoke fluent English and presented themselves very well, basically destroying Ogle and Kent s
argument by sitting on the stand alone. Their testimony proved that they spoke well enough
English to be in a non segregated school and that they weren t filthy creatures as Ken purposed. The
children s and many other s testimony brought to light that their English skills were

The Importance Of Teaching English As A Second Language
This paper will be discussing how one can go to Serbia and teach English as a second language.
This paper will include important information such as basic education system, visa, demographic
and more things about Serbia.
Keywords: TESOL, English, Serbia, Second language, Teaching.
Advancing the learning and educating of American English around the world is an integral portion
having different cultures interacting as well as understanding between the individuals of the United
States and the people of other nations. Expanding the English dialect capacity of groups of
onlookers abroad extends and improves their engagement with American partners and builds
enduring bridges between societies. One such place is Serbia. This paper will discuss everything
concerning Serbia s educational system as well as on teaching English as a second language.
This table illustrates in a very precise manner, the educational system of Serbia.
The school year for primary and high schools lasts for 9.5 months, except for 8th grade of
primary and 3rd/4th grade of secondary school, for which it lasts 9 months. It begins on
September 1, and ends in the half of June. For 8th grade of primary and 3rd/4th grade of secondary
school, it ends in the beginning of June (about one week earlier than for others). Preschool education
was optional and primary and secondary education were the same. The school year is split into 2
semesters (polugodiЕЎte), and semesters are split into 2 quarters (tromeseДЌje). Between school
years, in summer, there is summer holiday which last for 2ВЅ months (3 months for those
proceeding to high school or university. So, students have about 85 working days in the first
semester and 95 in the second semester; 180 in total).
This graph illustrates the higher education system in Serbia:
On the side note Serbia has around 7 million people and major religion is Easter orthodox. It s
weather oscillate, and the climate can be called Continental in the north, Adriatic in the south.
Not in every case but for the most part visas are needed for teachers in Serbia, but very easy to get
hence it s a third world country. These are issued by the Labor market office in Belgrade. Because

Product Quality and Process Quality
Product quality
Quality is the measure of excellence or state of being free from deficiency, defects, and significant
variations , (Nader, 2009).
Quality of a product can be mainly assessed from a manufacturer and a customer point of view.
From a customer point of view, product quality is perspective as each individual perceives quality
differently. Ultimately, product quality is the capability of the product to fulfil customer
expectations as required from the users.
Quality from a manufacturer s perspective depends on company size, culture, financial resources,
human resources, market pressures and company strategy.
Due to the availability of a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a cost benefit analysis is required to be carried out to determine if the extent of quality
assurance and quality control is beneficial to the business.
The final inspection of the product is used for quality assurance as well.
There is a fine balance between quality and cost of any product. If the product maintains a higher
than required quality and the cost is high due to this very requirement, demand will decrease.
Therefore, quality should be maintained at a level where it is sustainable so that a the product can
be cost effective to face a competitive market.
In the case study, Harris s team experiments with different techniques to reduce the time required to
prepare the chocolate at different stages of the process of chocolate making. It is clear that with the
changes in the processes of chocolate production, the final quality was sometimes so much affected
that the pioneers of the factory refused to endorse the change. This proves that there is an
undeniable interaction between product quality and process quality.
However, the decision was made to make changes in the process only after so many trials, testing
and tasting.
This demonstrates that,
In order to make a good quality product a series of quality processes are required.
To maintain quality process a series of quality control systems are required.
In a process quality control scheme the sequence of the steps

Effects Of Gay Media On Lgbtq
Gay Media and The Effects it Has on Heterosexuals Attitudes Towards LGBTQ
Twenty years ago, 42 million viewers watched the sitcom Ellen, featuring Ellen DeGeneres, and
the now famous Puppy episode. That night Ellen had admitted to the world that she was gay. The
backlash to her coming out was vicious, boycotts and protests towards the sitcom seemed
neverending and when the ABC network made the decision to renew the show for another season,
they went to the extent of putting a parental advisory warning at the beginning of each episode.
Shortly after, it was cancelled for being criticised as too gay. Fast forward 20 years later, Ellen
DeGeneres was given the Medal of Freedom by former President of the United States, Barack
Obama who said, It s easy to forget now just how much courage was required for Ellen to come
out on the most public of stages 20 years ago. This event has been marked as a milestone referring

The Irreverence Of Impressionism In Modern Art
Impressionism was considered irreverent and ghastly for its incomplete appearance, lack of
refinement, and academic disregard toward an established art community during the late 1800s.
Although an outpouring of attention was given to dissidents from traditional styles, artists such
Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and eventually Mary Cassatt pressed forward to showcasing
Impressionismas it became widely accepted across Europe and in America (About.com, 2014). The
purposeful absence of clarity instilled by Impressionism provides an onlooker with a lasting sense
for contemporary life, subtle landscapes, and an opportunity to embrace a new revolution.
Impressionism challenged enthusiasts surrounding Classical through Romantic period works with a
sense of bewilderment when contrasting these timeless works to the first, true, and a modern art
style that diverges from the norm. Impressionism is no longer considered irreverent or ghastly

electromagnetic spectrum. The area to be studied is the infrared region, which is made up of
gamma, X, and UV rays. We want to be able to identify spectra s to their complementary structures.
The background of this experiment particularly deals with the study of compound structure
determination, and traits. We must be aware of the functional groups that occur in the compounds
in order to correctly assess accurate results. Molecular vibrations affect the frequency of the stretch

This means our obvious choice for the unknown is diethyl ether because there are no double bonds
involved and no nitro compounds.
It was very easy to make an error because of the high possibility that we had overlapping
frequencies, or because two unknowns could be very similar. In order to avoid errors, it was
necessary to make sure the frequencies were read very carefully and the spectra bonds were
correctly identified. If we were to make an error in distinguishing an unknown, this would
automatically cause us to have 2 or more incorrect Unknowns being identified. The Unknowns must
be assessed by the frequency chart and bond identification.

Unquiet Mind, she writes about her life and her battle with manic depressive illness, revealing
how someone s life is impacted by a psychological disorder. Her novel revolves around her ailment
and the situations she encounters along the way of her journey, such as attempting to commit
suicide, suffering from deep depressions, and experiencing hallucinations of flying. Jamison

As an additional example, when Jamison starts to miss her manias she writes, Long since that
extended voyage of my mind and soul, Saturn and its icy rings took on an elegiac beauty, and I
don t see Saturn s image now without feeling an acute sadness at its being so far away from me,
so unobtainable in so many ways (91). In all of these quotes, Jamison has imaginations of Saturn
or space, which most likely implies that she feels distant or alienated from the normal world
when she is high. In most cases, feelings such as these are difficult to describe to others,
considering, it is better to have experienced it in order to understand it. Nevertheless, Jamison
does an excellent job in breaking that barrier, by utilizing metaphors of flying and connecting it
to the feelings she obtains when she is high to assist the reader in learning her perspective. Early
in her novel, Jamison writes about her family and her life when she was young, explaining the
significance flying had in her life. Her father was in the Air Force, so for this reason, their family
was forced to travel often. Her father [...] was foremost a scientist and only secondarily a pilot.
But he loved to fly, and, because he was a meteorologist, both his mind and his soul ended up being
in the skies (11). Since her father always had an interest in flying, it carried on to Jamison, which
demonstrates why she uses flying as a metaphor throughout her novel.

Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was the find the difference between concentration levels
of high school students chewing gum versus non chewers. The concentration portion provided
students with two color tests to take to record differences in concentration. The results provided
data with an increase in concentration of students while chewing gum.
Introduction:
Psychologist have tested the effect of gum many times but can t specifically find what makes gum a

Methods
The first step in conducting the experiment was deciding who was going to be tested. The test
included using four classes each of a different grade level to perform the color/concentration test on.
Each student was given a notecard to document their: Name, Age, Gender, Grade, Score, and Time.
The first test was fireworkspop.com/colortest which was the simpler of the two test. As students
take the test monitor the room and answer any questions anyone has getting to the website. After
completing the first test the students will then their first score on the note card and proceed to
take the second color test on cognitivefun.net/test/2. the second color test was slightly different
and could go on forever. Instruct the students to go to trial twenty one to get their results. The
website gives the option to continue anonymously and the website calculates the score and gives
the time it was completed in. The students wrote all their results before the note cards are taken
up to be compiled into a graph. Let time go by before doing the experiment when the gum is
included. The reason for waiting a while before doing the second portion of the test is so the
subjects would not be expecting it, therefore they would not be prepared, making results more
accurate. Splitting the class in half by numbers then again by gender, give each group one of two

Factors Of Career And Personality Assessments
Pathway to Elementary Education Emily is college freshman at Tarrant County College, a
community college based in Fort Worth, Texas. Emily plans to attend junior college for a year
and then would like to transfer to a larger university. She is struggling with the decision of
choosing a major. Deciding what she wants to do for the rest of her life is very stressful. Her
parents think she should go into the medical field because the jobs are plentiful, but she never did
well in her science classes in high school, and the sight of blood makes her sick. Emily mentioned
that she worked with the second grade class at church and always enjoyed her time with this age
group. She wonders if this interest might be something she should pursue. As Emily s academic
advisor, I suggested some helpful steps she should take that would assist her in making these
important decisions.
Assessments
One of the first steps in helping a student who is undecided about their degree is to suggest useful
assessments. Career and personality assessments are beneficial in several ways. They can help
provide insight into personality traits, skills, and interests of a student. The results in turn can help
students make connections between these traits and careers that they are well suited for. There are
two tools in particular that I find beneficial. The first is a database called O*Net Online. This
website has assessment tools to measure abilities, interests, knowledge and skills. It also has

Students continue to use strategies they already learned and practiced in previous units. The first
part helps students learn the difference between physical characteristics and character traits.
Students will begin by making personal connections to their own traits. Students will cut a large
hole in piece of construction paper as frame for their face. On the boarder they will use physical and
inner characteristics to describe themselves. They will partner with someone to add a feature they
may have not used. As students learn to describe each, they get more familiar with the main
character. Each book has multiple supporting characters, but only one main character. They will
learn to focus attention in illustrations and print, to the character s actions and feelings, and how
they change through the story.
Once the students are familiar with each character, they can begin activities to compare and
contrast the characters, their feelings, and their ideas. They will also analyze if the characters
affected the traits or feelings of the main character. As each lesson is taught, centers are developed
for small group and independent learning. Centers focus on student s interests and intelligences and
go across the curriculum. After creating a list of traits for each character, students will sort traits on
Smart Board and magnetic index cards. For the kinesthetic learner, students will crumble paper with
characters on it and toss it into the prospective baskets with

Professionalism As A Dentist
What is a dentist ? To some, the mere word invokes fear, to others, it is simply a person who
lectures about and drills teeth. To me however, a dentist is a healthcare provider that, with the
proper care and skills, is an integral part of his/her community. A dentist must apply excellence,
humanism, accountability and altruism, the four models that construct professionalism, to his/her
actions, thoughts and treatments. A dental professional s concrete knowledge and performance
level along with an understanding of the lawful rights encompassing dentistryand their ability to
explain and review these dental facets with their patients, is a few of the many ways that the four
propositions of professionalism may be expressed by a healthcare provider. With that said, I believe
professionalism as a dentist embodies the capacity to supply his/her local community with
responsible and superior care both in the tangible, physical sense through expert level practices and

bring a positive outcome. A dentist employing a humanistic approach will show compassion and

Energy Conversion And Its Effect On Climate
Energy conversion has been essential in every human activity since the prehistoric age. A basic
extent of the evolution of society is directly associated with the changes in the fundamental sources
of energy and its uses. Through the last 250 years, people have learned how to harvest and deal
with energy in different forms to make work easier and live more comfortable. Nevertheless, this
human activity is overloading the atmosphere with greenhouse gases emission, which make the
temperature higher, trap heat and generates serious and harmful impacts on the environment and on
climate. Therefore, the governments all around the world are making an effort to promote and
develop renewable energyas the new main energy source. All started with human s dependence on
their muscular power to survive; after that, they learned how to use animal force and fire, and
slowly new tools and energy sources were being developed and discovered, from agriculture to the
big move by the wind and water power. Furthermore, in the middle of the 18th century occurred the
Industrial Revolution, also known as the energy revolution, when the use of coal and steam engines
started, causing an accelerated growth of cities and population. In addition, this revolution
encourage future creations and discoveries, such as the internal combustion engines, use of natural
gas, electricity and oil. From the end of the 19th century on, the use of fossil fueland electricity

Reflection Paper On Regular Council Meeting
Regular City Council Meeting
I have always prided myself as a person who knows virtually everything that happens around my
community. It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or
understand. Too often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply
because we do not understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people
especially when it comes to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The
average people is generally unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax
money. You only need to look at the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to
change and for me, this change came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe
City Regular Council Meeting. I had never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is
perhaps owing to the attitude of most people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had
not seen any local issue that moved me enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard
or to be curious enough to want to find out about the secrets of the operations of the local
government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made and policies developed by the city
government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit and watch all the work and
grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made me realize that

After completing my classes for the day, I went directly to Tempe City Hall City CouncilChambers
which is housed in the Harry E. Mitchell Government Center. As I got in two minutesbefore the
official starting time, the room was almost fully occupied but I was lucky to secure a seat at a
position where I could follow the proceedings comfortably. The chamber is divided into two
seating areas one for the Council Members and the other for the members of the public. The two
areas face each other and are separated in the middle by a corridor that connects to two main
entrance/exit points. The area accommodating the councilmembers is at a relatively elevated angle
compared to the area where the citizens sit to facilitate easy and effective engagement.

Ecstasy And Inquisition Analysis
In these primary sources, heresy and inquisition are the subjects of discussion. The two sources are
translated from Castilian by Roland Surtz. In the first source: A. Descriptions of Two Autos de Fe
(1486), the author primarily focused on retelling the two events that took place in Toledo. The
second source: B. Inquisitorial Trials of Ines Lopez, recounted her confessions, arraignment, and
questionnaire for Tachas Witnesses. Benefits of using these source to support an argument would
be that it provides an exact name. On the other hand, similar to all other court documents from this
time, it is unclear how precise the information about Ines Lopez is and if there was any degrees of
fabrication. Considering there are most likely a few to none texts denying the Spanish Inquisition,
one obvious historical fact of these text is that the Inquisition absolutely existed.... Show more

For that reason, and because these sources were translated from Castilian, one can infer that the
author is likely Christian and that these sources were written in order to protect the reputation of
the Church. Several examples that indicate repetition include, but are not exclusive to: were

The Athletes And Professional Athletes
Change occurs instantly once a player is drafted into the NFL as a professional athlete. The fame,
money, and lifestyle are brand new and exhilarating. The professional athletes are initiated into a
culture of partying, bling, new cars, new houses, and new followers. Along with their careers as an
athlete, they instantly sign contracts making them millionaires over night. The majority of athletes
come from backgrounds of poverty and rural areas, making them untrained on how to handle
finances. NFL players are given both briefings on ways to financetheir money and agents willing to

One problem NFL players face is learning how to budget their money. Once they get drafted into
the NFL they receive large salaries that dramatically alter their lives. The average professional
athlete in the U.S. makes more than most people earn throughout their lives (MunKNEE).
Receiving such large salaries changes both the way people live their lives and how they spend
their money. Suddenly they have the capability to buy expensive cars, fancy clothes, and buy
out clubs for a night. The majority of professional football players spend large amounts of
money on items that show off their wealth, so once new players join the league they feel the
pressure to match up to the others. Scott Bercu, a financial accountant for NFL players, agrees
that athletes spend their money like crazy. He sees players earn a $5 million dollar salary, but
by the time they pay their agent and taxes they are left with only $2 million. The rate at which
these players spend their money does not match up to their $2 million dollars left in the bank
(MunKNEE). Even though these players make large salaries, they are not in the business for
many years. The average career span of NFL players is 3.5 years (MunKNEE). They have a
short amount of time to make there millions in order to live after their career, but if they don t
make there millions fast and learn how to save it then they will not survive. Overspending and

Comparing Goffman s Virtual And Intellectual Social Identity
According to Goffman, stigma refers to any undesirable or discrediting characteristics, constituted
by the variance between one s virtual and actual social identity. Goffman classifies stigma into three
distinct categories. One type of stigma he outlines is referred to as abominations of the body, which
constitutes various physical deformities. Another type is tribal stigma, which are those stigma that
can be inherited through lineages and equally contaminate members of that lineage. The third type
of stigma that Goffman proposes is blemishes of individual character, which refers to those stigma
that are more difficult to detect from merely looking at an individual, ranging from addiction
struggles to mental illness. A blemish of character

Racism And Income Inequality In The United States
Racism and inequalities have existed, exists now, and will be here long after we are gone.
However, racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully
eradicated, it is to the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of
life, such as income levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to
systemic racism. It is a person s own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that
determine their level of achievement. Of the many cultures in this country, some are more goal
driven and can better thrive in a capitalist society. Then there are some cultures that don t do so
well. So, even though racism does exist in the united states, it is not to the point where it grants
benefits to white people. There are many factors to income inequality in this country, not all of

Analysis Of August Wilsons Fences
August Wilsons Fences takes us on a journey that transforms the 20th century impression of a

of an American Negro man who loses his dreams for the people he loves. Fences demonstrates us
what sacrifice looks like and how egocentricity still exist today. Fences takes place with a family

The Beauty of Adam and Eve
In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the
importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society.
Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known
Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however,
interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the
expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden.
Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both
adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the
forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is
then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license
and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion
of Eden, and directly relating to the bible.
Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the
Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole
story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully,
Eve s first interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them

Theme Of Discrimination In Native Son
Discrimination: Past and Present In the United States, there is an immeasurable amount of hate.
Ever since our ancestors came to the United States from England, we search only for differences
in each other. These differences can be anything from the color of one s skin, religion, sex, or
expression of his or her gender, even political beliefs. Consequently, generally one will treat
another differently due to characteristics that they have lack control over. As a human being, one
can only tolerate treatment of this kind for so long, and the subject will eventually retaliate. Yet,
when an individual does retaliate due to poor treatment, there is no thought given into why they
did so. Several characters from Native Son experience this mistreatment which people are still
experiencing today. In Richard Wright s novel Native Son, the characters are treated unjustly.
Due to his skin color and socioeconomic status, Bigger Thomas misses countless opportunities
in life. Almost every minority during this era is born with some disadvantages, identical to
Bigger s. For example, Bigger wants to attend aviation school and fly an airplane, but cannot
because of the color of his skin. Bigger says: I wanted to be an aviator once. But they wouldn t let
me go to the school where I was suppose to learn it. They kept all of the colored boys out (Wright

High Achieving Student Growth Target
1. Principal Frank felt strongly that ranking a school higher solely for achieving the student growth
target over a school that actually met the AYP achievement targets was inequitable and misleading.
Do you agree or disagree with Principal Frank s perspective? In this scenario, I feel Principal Frank
frustration is justifiable due to the recent changes made to the school rankingsystem. Within the
text it indicated that Principal Frank had worked for seven years with his staff to implement best

3. Principal Frank questions the efficacy of the NCLB accountability system. Compare and contrast
the use of AYP ratings compared with individual student growth rankings. Which might be the best
way to go in terms of the students, parents, and the community?
AYP requires that students levels of reading and math proficiency are tested in grades through 8
and in one grade in high school (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011, p.1).
Results are then compared to prior performance levels, and state determined AYP standards, to
determine if the school has met AYP (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011).
In order to achieve AYP, 95% of students must participate in testing, and 95% must reach minimum
annual targets (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In addition, 95% of students
in subgroups for disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, ELL, and ethnic groups must
meet the measurable annual objectives. In contrast, individual student growth rankings do not
employ specific benchmarks to establish a school s performance. If Superintendent Hart is
employing a simple growth model each students scores will be compared to the previous years.
The downside of this is if a student did not take the test they will not be aggregated into the
schools growth calculation. I do not feel this case student clearly explained how poverty levels are

Without economic equality in the society, freedom and political equality could not be achieved.
The manifesto was to advocate for the redistribution of resources as the most effective way of

Analysis Of The Article Selection, Slanting, And Charged...
According to Birk and Birk in Selection, Slanting, and Charged Language , the word slanting
could be used for or against or it can be used both ways. In Mokoto Rich s article is for the
Federal Guidelines. Now slanting by use of the devices of emphasis is unavoidable, for emphasis
is simply the giving the stress to the subject matter, and so indicating what is important and what
is less important (Birk and Birk2). It s basically stressing certain words and they can produce a
positive or negative outcome. In Rich s article is in favor if Federal Guidelines, because once you

Rich s article uses slating throughout the paper, trying to push the reader to favor what the

following, there is supposed to be no judgment. You can come as you are, as a friend, as an
enemy as you want to be. This concept hit home for a lot of young kids in the 90 s. They felt like
they connected to this music, especially to Kurt Cobain s lyrics. Nirvanas success marked the real

All these bands contributed to the Grunge Revolution, but it was Nirvana that really took
everyone on a whirlwind. Right before the Grunge Revolution, Rock music had become
something of a show with all the glitz and glamour and puffed hair and make up. At this point
people were yearning for real rock music to make a comeback, people wanted something
meaningful and the new 90 s generation wanted a new voice. This is what Nirvana gave the

even if it wasn t. It is no secret that Kurt struggled with many things, he struggled with his fame
that sky rocketed overnight, struggled with the emotions of a very harsh childhood, and then came
drugs to numb it all. All these emotions though, flowed through his music, and people felt as if
they knew him personally and a lot of the generation of the 90 s felt they could relate to his music.

that everyone was yearning for.

  • 2. Personal Narrative Essay On The Game Playoffs Playoffs It had been a long season, many losses, but many learning moments, we were second to last in the league and only had about ten wins. The only thing we had going for us, the playoffs. We had tied the West Kent Hawks and beat two other teams 7 1 and 10 2 to make it here, and there I was. Sitting in the locker room with a blank stare and hands hanging from my chest guard, this is usually what happens before games. I was anxious to get on the ice, but neverous too, because this is how the little caesars playoffs work. You five teams in one division, the top the teams after a round robin type thing, make it to the playoffs. If you lose in the playoffs, you go home. We didn t drive all the way to detroit to lose the first matchup and leave. No way.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was a long waiting game. You could see the other on the other side of the rink. Finally the zamboni got off, the ice was clear and ready. We hopped on and within a blink the game started up. The first period was weak on our part, two zero was the ending score of it. Second, four two. We had to come back Four minutes later 13 scored to make it four to three. The cheers of the crowd echoed in the arena. Then we went 10 minutes without scoring. With 5 minutes left. I skated around the defensmen went to my forehand, backhand. Score! It was four to four. Now it was tied. The last minutes of a tie game are always wild. No one wants to go home. You already sweating, You ve put in the work. You want to be rewarded. I came to the bench breathing heavy and tired. They congratulated me on the goal, but with a tie game there was still a job to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast A Tale Of Two Schools From the 1860s forward, much focus was in the country was on people and their inherit rights under the United States constitution. However, even with all men being equal under the law in the 1940s, many were still segregated and racism was and still is very much alive. School districts had separate schools for whites and blacks and some systems even had separate schools for Mexican Americans. Mendez v. Westminster was the first case in 1947 that overruled the segregation of schools due to raceand language in the Westminster, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and El Modena school districts of Orange County. This case was a major positive stride in the desegregation in America at the time. During the case, segregation was proven to be against the 14th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Things were said that were very traumatic to the Mendez and other families defending the honor of 5,000 Chicano students. The biggest argument from the lead prosecutor, Ogle during the trial was the Mexican schools gave special instruction to students who didn t speak English and who were unfamiliar with American values and customs. Such Americanization programs benefited both Anglos and Mexicans ( A Tale of Two Schools ). Kent, the superintendent for the district, stated that ...thinking in Spanish, they cannot compete with the other students and advance in the same grade at the same age (Strum, 2014). During testimony it was also stated that Mexicans were like pigs who should be kept in pig pens and that they carried lice and many other diseases because they are so filthy. ( A Tale of Two Schools ). Kent also stated that Mexican s grow faster physically, but that their brains were a year retarded and therefore segregation was completely legitimate (Strum, 2014). However, Sylvia and her two brothers took the stand during the trial and both spoke fluent English and presented themselves very well, basically destroying Ogle and Kent s argument by sitting on the stand alone. Their testimony proved that they spoke well enough English to be in a non segregated school and that they weren t filthy creatures as Ken purposed. The children s and many other s testimony brought to light that their English skills were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or understand. Too often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply because we do not understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people especially when it comes to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The average people is generally unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax money. You only need to look at the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to change and for me, this change came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe City Regular Council Meeting. I had never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is perhaps owing to the attitude of most people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had not seen any local issue that moved me enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard or to be curious enough to want to find out about the secrets of the operations of the local government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made and policies developed by the city government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit and watch all the work and grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made me realize that democracy is not self driving. • 31. The Beauty of Adam and Eve In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society. Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating to the bible. Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully, Eve s first interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Theme Of Discrimination In Native Son Discrimination: Past and Present In the United States, there is an immeasurable amount of hate. Ever since our ancestors came to the United States from England, we search only for differences in each other. These differences can be anything from the color of one s skin, religion, sex, or expression of his or her gender, even political beliefs. Consequently, generally one will treat another differently due to characteristics that they have lack control over. As a human being, one can only tolerate treatment of this kind for so long, and the subject will eventually retaliate. Yet, when an individual does retaliate due to poor treatment, there is no thought given into why they did so. Compare and contrast the use of AYP ratings compared with individual student growth rankings. Which might be the best way to go in terms of the students, parents, and the community? AYP requires that students levels of reading and math proficiency are tested in grades through 8 and in one grade in high school (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011, p.1). Results are then compared to prior performance levels, and state determined AYP standards, to determine if the school has met AYP (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In order to achieve AYP, 95% of students must participate in testing, and 95% must reach minimum annual targets (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In addition, 95% of students in subgroups for disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, ELL, and ethnic groups must meet the measurable annual objectives. In contrast, individual student growth rankings do not employ specific benchmarks to establish a school s performance.
