How To Boost Your
Child's Immunity
Shiuli Das from Siliguri has 7 year-old-son Abir. Due to the

Nurture your child with healthy food:
Nurturing the child with a healthy diet is extremely
important for his stronger immune system. Foods rich in
vitamin C help to keep the child healthy and strong. By
following a balanced diet with a fuse of green leafy
vegetables, fruits and nuts daily, a child will keep up great
wellbeing and have a strong immune system. As a parent,
you should encourage your child to include nutritious food in
their daily diet. Fruits like guava, oranges, strawberries,
papaya, berries, vegetables like pumpkin, onions, carrots,
green beans, dark green leafy vegetables and nuts including
walnuts and almonds serve as great immune-boosters for
children.
Your kids need enough sleep:
Your kid needs a good amount of sleep for having a
maximized immunity system. The body of a child needs sleep
to recuperate and boost the immune system. Sleep helps your
child’s body produce good proteins and immune-boosting
cells. Making a proper schedule for sleep may help your child
get enough sleep. While a child below 1 year needs 12 to 16
hours sleep a day, a child between 1 to 2 years needs 11 to 14
hours a day sleep. And, if your child is 3 to 7 years of age then
10 to 13 hours a day sleep should be sufficient.
Encourage your child for physical activity:
Physical activity or exercise increases natural killer cells
in children. Physical activity flushes out microbes from
the body of children which reduces his chances of falling
prey to several illnesses. Physical activity causes
changes in antibodies and white blood cells through
which your child’s body can fight infections well. So, you
should encourage your kid to go for more physical
activity.
Personal hygiene is key to remain healthy:
Maintaining personal hygiene contributes in the most
effective way of building up the kid’s immune system. So,
extra care should be taken to inculcate in the child the habit
of maintaining the basic hygiene practises at home or
outside. Children should be encouraged to wash their hands
frequently with soaps or sanitizers. Hands should be washed
properly before and after each meal, after sneezing and
coughing, after playing, using the washroom and handling
pets etc.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will go a long way in boosting your

Sleep helps your child’s body produce good proteins and immune-boosting cells. Making a proper schedule for sleep may help your child get enough sleep. While a child below 1 year needs 12 to 16 hours sleep a day, a child between 1 to 2 years needs 11 to 14 hours a day sleep. And, if your child is 3 to 7 years of age then 10 to 13 hours a day sleep should be sufficient.
  • 6. Encourage your child for physical activity: Physical activity or exercise increases natural killer cells in children. Physical activity flushes out microbes from the body of children which reduces his chances of falling prey to several illnesses. Physical activity causes changes in antibodies and white blood cells through which your child’s body can fight infections well. So, you should encourage your kid to go for more physical activity.
  • 7. Personal hygiene is key to remain healthy: Maintaining personal hygiene contributes in the most effective way of building up the kid’s immune system. So, extra care should be taken to inculcate in the child the habit of maintaining the basic hygiene practises at home or outside. Children should be encouraged to wash their hands frequently with soaps or sanitizers. Hands should be washed properly before and after each meal, after sneezing and coughing, after playing, using the washroom and handling pets etc.
