Methodology
• We reviewed the websites and social media profiles of target law firms
across all public platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter,
Google+,YouTube, Slideshare and others
• We assessed each firm’s publically available substantive content as well as
its social reach and engagement, assigning a point value based on the
number of followers, friends, likes, comments and so forth.
• We also collected information across the legal market through a series of
surveys conducted by our publishing partners.

their efforts and the
resources they devote to
social media over the last
12 months

large law firms was
broad based, with firms
in bottom half of the
2013 ranking showing
the most marked
improvement, and a
number of mid-ranked
firms moving up to
significantly higher
levels of performance.

Marketing remains the single most
important purpose cited by large law
firms for using social media. This year
100% of law firms responding
indicated that the use social media for
marketing as compared to 89% of
firms surveyed last year. At the same
time, there has also been a notable
increase in the reported usage for
other purposes, including recruiting,
client support and fostering internal
collaboration.

  • 3. #LMA15 Methodology • We reviewed the websites and social media profiles of target law firms across all public platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+,YouTube, Slideshare and others • We assessed each firm’s publically available substantive content as well as its social reach and engagement, assigning a point value based on the number of followers, friends, likes, comments and so forth. • We also collected information across the legal market through a series of surveys conducted by our publishing partners.
  • 4. #LMA15 2015 Social Law Firm Index Findings Large law firms have substantially increased their efforts and the resources they devote to social media over the last 12 months
  • 5. #LMA15 2015 Social Law Firm Index Findings The improvement in performance among large law firms was broad based, with firms in bottom half of the 2013 ranking showing the most marked improvement, and a number of mid-ranked firms moving up to significantly higher levels of performance.

At the same time, there has also been a notable increase in the reported usage for other purposes, including recruiting, client support and fostering internal collaboration.
  • 9. #LMA15 2015 Social Law Firm Index Findings Prevalence of usage of social media by lawyers does not appear to have changed that significantly over the course of the last year.
  • 10. #LMA15 2015 Social Law Firm Index Findings A significantly higher percentage of lawyers responding to the survey indicated that their firms have adopted a policy of actively encouraging lawyers to use social media for business development purposes.
  • 11. #LMA15 2015 Social Law Firm Index Findings Size definitely seems to matter when it comes to establishing online reach. This year’s survey reveals that there is a significant correlation for law firms between the size of the firm and the effective reach of their social media activity.
