4. Striated Muscle
The human heart is a muscular
organ about the size of two
closed fists. The heart is also
known as a striated muscle, and
myocardium.
Here is a cross cut section of the
heart…
…The medical term is known as
the frontal plane, which divides
the heart into front and back
sections
5. Three Types of Blood Vessels Exist in the Human Body
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
Three Types of Blood

The largest artery
(aorta) and veins
(venae cavae) are
approximately 1 inch
wide.
9. The 13 Steps of the Heart
RIGHT HEART PUMP:
1. Superior/Inferior Vena Cava
2. Right Atrium
3. Tricuspid Valve
4. Right Ventricle
5. Pulmonary Valve
6. Pulmonary Artery
7. Lungs
8. Pulmonary Vein
LEFT HEART PUMP:
1. Left Atrium
2. Bicuspid Valve
3. Left Ventricle
4. Aortic Valve
5. Aorta
10. How Our Heart Works…
…Veins pump blood to the heart while arteries pump
blood away from the heart…
While blood is circulating through the body it delivers what?
The heart, the central organ of the cardiovascular system is located between the 2 lungs, in the middle of the chest. While 2/3 lies to the left of the breast bone and 1/3 to the right. If we were to place our hand on our chest, we can feel the heart beat on the left side of the ribcage. Why, because the bottom corner somewhat tilts forward, which is close to the surface of our body.
The human heart is divided into 4 chambers:1. The Right AtriumThe Right VentricleThe Left AtriumThe Left ventricle. The walls of the chamber is made of a special muscle, called the Myocardium.
The adult heart is about the size of 2 clenched fists. It is shaped like a cone and weights about 7-15 ounces. The heart is also known as a striated muscle, and the walls of the chambers are made up of the myocardium which contracts rhythmically under stimulation.
There are three types of blood vessels that exist in the human body:ArteriesVeinsCapillaries
The cardiovascular system is a great network of the human body, which preforms 2 major task.It delivers oxygen & nutrientsIt removes waste products from tissues cells.
The Cardiovascular and Lym-pha-tic system is the arterial system
If you look at your handout on the anatomy of the heart you can get a clear picture of the ins & outs of our heart.

Veins pump blood to the heart, while arteries pump blood away from the heart..If the heart supplies the blood to the whole of the body, what supplies blood to the heart? The heart takes care of itself first. Frist preservation.
