Seton Hall University graduate Mark Chae, PhD possesses more than a decade of experience in the mental health field. He is a licensed psychotherapist and organizational consultant who has held several academic appointments throughout his career. As a researcher, Mark Chae, PhD focuses largely on multicultural issues in psychology. Multicultural issues relate to society as a whole. In a multicultural society or group, not every member of each culture or subgroup interacts with the other. However, they still affect the group dynamics. For instance, there could be many ethnic grocery stores or restaurants in a city despite people infrequently interacting with people from those geographic areas. Cross-cultural, on the other hand, focuses on how different cultures interact with one another. Instead of looking at how the presence of a particular culture impacts the whole, it examines the communication and differences between two or more cultures that deal with one another. Psychologically, these concepts remain the same. Cross-cultural psychology examines the relationships between groups or individuals from different cultures. It compares these cultural groups and looks for similarities and differences in such things as values and practices. Multicultural psychology looks at how ethnicity, race, or other contextual variables influence human functioning in society.
