In the United States, women represent an increasing percentage of the workforce. For instance, a report published in 1994 indicated a 13.2 percent increase in the percentage of women that worked in the labor force between 1973 and 1993. According to the report, female workers dominated male workers by about 7.9 percent in 1993. Aside from population, the US Department of Labor reported women's salaries being only 21 percent less than that of men on average in 1998. This is a significant improvement to the previous 40.1 percent wage gap reported in 1965. Although it is evident that women at that period faced more career challenges as compared to their male counterparts due to gender discrimination, the aforementioned data remain encouraging.
