3. Postpartum depression is a mental health disorder that manifests within a
month of the delivery of a baby. Since new mothers experience significant
fluctuations in hormone levels and major changes in their daily life, mild
depression (known as “baby blues”) is common. However, approximately 10
percent of women experience a more severe bout of depression.

4. Postpartum depression is more likely to arise if the pregnancy was difficult or if
the birth was particularly traumatic. Women who have been diagnosed with
depression in the past or have a family history of depression are also more
susceptible.
Postpartum depression can cause extreme anxiety about the baby’s health,
strong feelings of guilt, and frequent crying episodes. New mothers who
