The Biggest Artificial Intelligence Milestones Of The Decade So FarBernard Marr
We are only a few years into the '20s, but by any measure, it's been an eventful decade so far. It’s frequently been said that we’ve already seen five years’ worth of technology-driven change packed into the last 18 months, mostly out of necessity, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. And artificial intelligence (AI) development certainly hasn’t lagged behind.
Back in 2019, in what seems like another lifetime, I had a stab at picking out what I thought were the most significant developments so far in the history of AI. With everything that has developed since then, I thought it would be a good idea to round up the biggest breakthroughs and most significant developments of the current decade.
Unsurprisingly, many of the biggest and most headline-grabbing developments have been in the area of healthcare. However, ongoing research has also pushed boundaries of what is possible with natural language processing and vehicle autonomy.

AI in Manufacturing: moving AI from Idea to ExecutionbyteLAKE
#AI and #HPC convergence is here and is here to stay and accelerate innovations across industries. The increased availability of data, hardware advancements leading to increased computational capabilities, and new algorithms and mathematical models have collectively resulted in the accelerated AI expansion in all sorts of applications. This, however, creates high computational needs which naturally have been more and more successfully addressed by HPC (High-Performance Computing). In that sense, AI & HPC complement each other. HPC infrastructure is often used to train AI’s powerful algorithms by leveraging huge amounts of sample data (training set) and in that way enables AI models (trained algorithms) to recognize shapes, objects (machine vision), find answers hidden in the data (predictive maintenance, data analytics) or accelerate time to results (predict the outcome of complex engineering simulations).
We at byteLAKE have been closely working with Lenovo, Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group, Intel Corporation, NVIDIA and many more to ensure that our AI-powered products not only help our clients efficiently automate various operations and reduce time and cost but also are highly optimized and make the most of the hardware and software infrastructure where they are deployed. Besides our efforts in bringing AI solutions to the paper industry and manufacturing in general (which I described in my previous post), our efforts in bringing value thru AI in the chemical industry highly benefit from HPC's capabilities to dynamically scale and keep up with performance requirements. Our product, #CFDSuite (AI-accelerated CFD) leverages HPC to efficiently analyze historic CFD simulations and makes it possible for our clients to predict their outcomes on various edge devices i.e. laptops, desktop PCs or local edge servers. And with that in mind, I am very happy to see the byteLAKE team becoming one of the drivers of AI & HPC convergence and leveraging it to bring innovations to various industries.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
How artificial intelligence use to manufacturing companies
1. How Artificial Intelligence use to manufacturing companies
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the manufacturing industry in pretty dramatic
ways, from driving efficiencies, increasing defect detection rates, and reducing scrap
waste to improving sales forecasts and even giving company leaders the information
they need to renew business models.
Manufacturing can involve some very inefficient processes, which tend to require
continuous refinement and tuning. But that's precisely why we are seeing such a
dramatic increase in the number of machine learning and artificial intelligence
applications in manufacturing.
Impact of AI in Manufacturing companies:
Today, in the manufacturing sector we face a shortage of 20,000 graduate engineers
each year, but there are fears that the rise of artificial intelligence and automation in
the form of intelligent robots will cause catastrophic job losses . How will AI and its
development with automation affect manufacturing organizations? In the digital world
we live in, every day we hear more about technological advances that will impact our
lives in the future. Nothing but Artificial Intelligence (AI) that supports, complements
or, as some believe, replaces humans in the workforce.
2. The impact for the Ai in the Manufacturing sector is expected to be one of the
largest along with consumer-oriented sectors. With AI providing robots with a higher
degree of learning ability and sensitivity when it comes to touching, robots will be
able to take over more assembly and motion-dependent activities in the
manufacturing plant. For example, BMW's autonomous intelligent transport robot
travels around the manufacturing plant sending communications about any critical
situation it observes. The consent within the manufacturing industry appears to be
that the result of its workforce could put millions of persons out of work.
Some examples of AI in manufacturing:
The British company Rolls Royce is not only a luxury car manufacturer, but also
provides maintenance services for the airlines that use its products. The company
has implemented Microsoft Cortana Intelligence Suite and Azure to analyze this
amount of data. Solutions can model data at scale and identify and flag anomalies.
The process helps clients plan for the future.
Korean company LG CNS is renowned for its cloud-based smart factory service,
which helps manufacturers automate their Manufacturing Process with AI and
monitor production efficiency with the push of a button. The company has opted for
Microsoft Azure DocumentDB and HDInsight to collect production histories and uses
Azure Machine Learning which can project emerging defects and ensure efficient
production and management.
3. Automated machine learning used by multiple steel fabricators to reduce "mill scale"
that causes a 3% loss of steel. The AI solution helps reduce mill scale by 15% and
saves millions of dollars.
The German company Siemens has modernised its gas turbines with hundreds of
sensors that transmit data to an AI-enabled data processing solution, which adjusts
the fuel valves to maintain the lowest possible emission level.
AI leads the way for Smart Manufacturing:
Predictive Maintenance: The rapid rise of artificial intelligence and associated
technologies are bringing digital twin technology to the manufacturing sector. AI has
the ability to analyze the data that sensors collect from multiple sources. This data is
also used to detect anomalies and identify situations that can lead to failures.
Various companies are using various artificial intelligence technologies to reduce
equipment downtime.
Impeccable quality control: The manufacturing sector is experiencing quality
assurance based on AI and ML as a cutting edge new line of research. Most
manufacturing companies have started using the computer and sensor based

Evolution, not revolution:
AI has been around in the manufacturing industry for decades, so these
developments are an evolution, not a revolution, for the manufacturing industry. If
you haven't thought about how AI could affect your business or even your
competitors, now is the time to explore it.
Increased industrial connectivity, more sensors, powerful analytics, and robots (to
name a few) pose different challenges. Emerton Data's Aime Lachapelle says that
85 percent of the companies surveyed aim to implement AI in their production
processes. While many manufacturers have aspirations to implement artificial
intelligence in operations, extensive research and training is needed beforehand.
Transformation of AI in manufacturing Industry:

Manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce costs while continuing to offer
high-quality products and services. Leading manufacturing companies are taking an
enterprising approach to streamline operations. Companies that are making
extensive use of artificial intelligence are reaping the benefits of increased efficiency,
decreased downtime, and increased customer satisfaction.
5. manufacturers with large assets to apply AI:
For decades, companies have “digitized” their plants with supervisory and distributed
control systems and, in some cases, advanced process controls. While this has
vastly improved visualizations for operators, most companies with large assets have
not kept up with the latest advances in analytics and decision support solutions that
apply AI.
For example, today's small teams of control room operators are expected to
manually monitor a multitude of signals on numerous screens and adjust settings as
necessary. At the same time, they must troubleshoot and run tests and trials, to
name just a few of the tasks that push the limits of their human capabilities. As a
result, many operators take shortcuts and prioritize urgent activities that do not
necessarily add value.
Cost of AI In manufacturing Companies:
However, how much does Artificial Intelligence Cost? It's a question that
businesses of all sizes (from businesses to startups) ask themselves. Good news,
this AI pricing guide covers all your questions about the cost of artificial intelligence,
from average fees to the price factors that determine what you pay.
In 2020, businesses can pay anywhere from $ 0 to more than $ 300,000 for artificial
intelligence software. This software can range from a solution provided by a third
party to a custom platform developed by a team of internal or independent data
scientists and the cost of AI in manufacturing depends on your needs and Artificial
Intelligence App Development Company.
If your business uses third-party AI software, such as a pre-built chatbot, expect to
pay up to $ 40,000 per year. In some cases, your business can find free chatbot
applications that meet its needs, although they mostly work for business operations.
By comparison, custom AI solutions cost between $ 6,000 and more than $ 300,000.
This price includes development and implementation. Ongoing AI services, such as
consulting, generally cost less and are dependent on the consultant's hourly rate.
Most AI consultants charge between $ 200 and $ 350 per hour.
