2. Why are you here?
Maximize your Salesforce.com solution
Increase your efficiency
Figure out the age old riddle of how Admins and Developers can have a
productive, beneficial relationship?
3. What does it take?
Administrator DeveloperThe Business
5. Stereotype: The Developer
They speak a foreign language....and can be a bit excentric
"No" might be there favorite word......and what about letting us down easy?
What is delivered.....is not what was expected
The estimates are fuzzy at best....is this because you are going on a 4 week
vacation or is this hard to do?
6. Stereotype: The Administrator
Hides behind catch phrases and powerpoints
"Go Digital"
"Hackathon"
Fuzzy, vague requirements...to say the least
Dreamer expectations
Meetings, meetings, %&$%# meetings!
8. Our Situation
Every country highlighted on
this map has some form of
Salesforce...all in one org!
4 Business Divisions
25 countries
Communication and bridge
building is key to get
anything done!
9. Our Gap for Today‘s Preceedings
Football
vs.
Futbol
11. The beginning....
Short and sweet
Talked once a month.....for about 10 minutes
Developed blindly....in a global org!
Led to redudant development
Created bloat in our Account object
Made support a nightmare
Installed Apps instead of asking developers
No face to face meetings even in the same town!
13. The meeting of the minds
Difficulty seeing eye to eye
L.A.P. disease acusations
Record type bashing
What did you pick that Action?
14. At a crossroads.............until...........
Alex: Why didn‘t you just tell us what you are trying to do before you go and just
do it!
Charlie: I‘m sorry, I just figured you would be too busy listening to your David
Hasselhof music!
17. What we learned: Admins
Become a resourceful Salesforce Admin
Show them you put in the time
Use your Sandbox!
Trailhead
Certifications
Know your business processes….insulate I.T. from useless meetings
Involve your IT in the solution discussion
Build solid mockups/specs…..and do the leg work! (fields, pages, etc.)
18. What we learned: Developers
Listen to the business needs, not just the spec
Provide solution options and pitfalls
Be transparent in your development process
Prototyping/ MVP
Phase management
Struggles
Have an interest in the business
Attend meetings from once in a while!
19. Overall Governance
Keep each other in the loop
Meet regularly.....digitally or face to face
Share all development, no matter how small (both of you!)
Speak up when you hit road blocks
20. Team Building
Socialize & Communicate!
Cook, drink & have fun together!
Celebrate each other – give each other credit in front of large audiences.
