Bell Hooks's Education bell hooks, an American feminist writer and literary critic, believed that classrooms provide opportunities for possibility, even with their limitations. When she wrote about this over 20 years ago in 1994, she saw education as composed of possibilities for children. At that time, America was dealing with the effects of deindustrialization in major cities and the lack of money and homelessness it caused for many factory workers. The American school system remains focused on possibilities, as hooks described, but there are still disparities in funding between higher and lower income areas as well as between races. Because of this inequitable funding, laws are needed to regulate funding between schools to provide equal opportunities.
