Innovation Labs (iLabs) is a social innovation program covering a series of conferences. One the one hand, the goal is to bring social and technology experts together for the networking purpose. On the other hand, the motivation is to harness technology to solve the most challenging social and environmental problems and to build tech-based systems.
This presentation looks into the existing web structure and services of all Afghan universities, not only to evaluate the entire infrastructure but also to systematically analyze the gaps and design challenges of web platforms and services as a means of communication and collaboration among various stakeholders including the Ministry of Higher Education, its subsidiaries, students and other related audience.
The presentation finds that the environment for necessary ICT infrastructure and services is up to the expected required standard to provide access to various online resources and systems. The next important finding is the increasing demand by students to access information online rather than the existing traditional paper-based systems. Another very important finding is related to the non-existence of a formal managerial oversight to all the online resources and thus has resulted to a very poor quality of content, outdated information and the services that don't meet the expected needs and challenges.

The talk summarises the lessons learnt from nearly 200 cases of Knowledge Management journeys by Hong Kong and Asian enterprises. Much of the data is gained through the extensive number of student, consultancy and research projects carried out or supervised by KMIRC staff at private companies, non-profit social services organizations and government departments. The projects include KM readiness assessments, knowledge audit, strategy formulation, taxonomy design and maintenance, cultural assessment and organizational change, knowledge retention from near-retirees, requirements elicitation and selection of collaboration tools including portals, search engine assessments, configuration and continuous improvements, IC reporting and many more. The speaker will outline the challenges and their respective solutions, the theory-practice gap, as well as some easy “entry points” into KM.
This talk is an extended version of an award-winning presentation delivered at the recently held European Conference on Knowledge Management, Udine, Italy.

Trends and Directions of Technology in Elementary Schools under the Bangkok ...Dr Poonsri Vate-U-Lan
The future can be forecast from a decision based on current knowledge in relation to the trends and directions of computer technology implementation in a school. It depends frequently on the influence of administrators and their knowledge level. It is crucial to study the demand and the confidence level of e-learning implementation in the schools from an administration perspective. In 2013, a group of 120 school administrators attended a seminar workshop on e-learning at a university in Bangkok, Thailand. Fifty-six participants returned the questionnaire. The survey elicited level of their interest towards a combination of instructional approaches and computer technology. The research results are presented in this paper and outline the different levels of their interest towards each computer-technology application. The questionnaire contained questions regarding the potential of e-learning implementation based upon the available infrastructure in their schools. The results showed that e-learning was considered to be an education tool where implementation was not seen as problematic and it was likely to be an addition to the education offerings in schools. The survey also found that social networking was influential among schools, parents and students in relation to the potential benefits of e-learning implementation in schools. The survey indicates that the demand and confidence levels of e-learning implementation at the schools under Bangkok Metropolitan were rated at a high level.

Workshop on Knowledge-based Service Innovation2016
The world’s economy is increasingly service-based. More than 75% of GDP in the developed markets including Hong Kong is already services based. Service innovation – not only in services but also in manufacturing sectors – is already becoming a significant transformational force for these developed economies. This workshop provides participants with: (1) an overall understanding of the fundamental ways by which a firm’s knowledge-based organizational capabilities enable service innovation and how these capabilities must be configurable and aligned with the enterprise strategy for superior value co-creation with the customers; (2) a holistic and in-depth understanding of prevailing practical methods for developing and aligning the service innovation models, processes and operations with both the espoused enterprise strategy and customer value proposition to achieve sustainable competitive advantage; and (3) to relate and assess the suitability of the strategy-aligned service innovation concepts, models and methods for their own organizations. Furthermore, to operationalise the above, the Workshop also focusses on the key business concepts and technologies for organizations to orchestrate service innovations. Among others, agile organisations need to possess dynamic capabilities, constantly explore new business models, and foster quality process management via good governance and flexibility. Advancements in Cloud Computing and Business Process Management (BPM) provide the much needed business and technological support for organisations to practice the above. The Cloud provides far more than just scale-able IT infrastructure but increasingly being seen as a compelling force for engineering on demand business innovations. Cloud-based services can be charged as pay by usage hence shielding many businesses from the risks that are commonly associated with launching a new business venture. In the Cloud, expertise, solutions and creative ideas can be sourced as well as the design and execution of collaborative Knowledge Work.

These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Biz Models for Hi-Tech Products to analyze the business model for Coursera. Coursera offers massive open online courses and thus challenges the current business models of most universities. It offers these online courses to its students and to the students of other universities. By using courses that have been developed by universities and other organizations and by offering these courses to thousands if not millions of potential customers, Coursera has much lower costs per course and per student than do conventional universities. These slides analyze the challenges for Coursera and the potential solutions in the form of customer selection, value proposition, and method of value capture.

Seminar on winning recipes from best knowledge enterprises2016
The Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award is an international benchmark of best practice knowledge management. This prestigious international award was launched in 1998 and sought to recognize organizations which out-perform their peers in creating stakeholders values by practising knowledge management and intellectual capital management. The launch of the MAKE Award provides a platform for enterprises to benchmark their KM performance with organizations locally, regionally and globally. It also encourages local organizations to start their KM journey. Through participation, an organization needs to analyze its strengths and weaknesses against the eight assessment criteria and strives to make improvement. As a result, its productivity, competitiveness and sustainability can be enhanced.
The success stories of these awardees are invaluable for enterprises which aim to embark on a corporate KM journey, or continue to flourish from existing KM implementation.
Cloud computing & big data for service innovation & learning2016
Cloud Computing and Big Data for Service Innovations & Learning
Up till now, most of the adoption of cloud computing focusses on the automation and consolidation of traditional IT services. As such, the gains are confined to the uniformity of control, cost reduction and better governance. Recent adoption of the cloud has gradually moved into tactical and even strategic levels thereby demonstrating a high level of gains for using the cloud for business transformations and innovations. Such benefits include dynamism in business model compositions and speed and ease in orchestrating service innovations in the cloud. This talk will shed light on how massive and rapid accumulation of data in the cloud can support human-machine cooperative problem solving and re-define the landscape of Open Innovation and Connectionist Learning via a Knowledge Cloud.

They fall into the areas of: Facilitating Knowledge Flows (example, Relationship Network Management); Before/During/After Action Learning (examples, Continuous Improvement Review and Interrupted Case Study); and Knowledge Capacities (examples, Shifting Frames of Reference and Engaging Tacit Knowledge).
In Part III, in the context of Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management, the speaker and the facilitator will open the floor and offer their expertise to help solve real-life problems in your organizations.
