Lesson 1 Homework
Production skills audit
An essential part of A-level Media coursework is measuring how your skills
develop over the duration of the course as a whole. Therefore you need to
answer the following questions honestly and in detail – this will help you with
preparation for the AS coursework evaluations and for the A2 coursework
evaluation and A2 exam
1. Can you use a video camera properly? (Consider your ability to get
shot distances right, frame composition and general ability to use the
technical functions of the camera?)
2. Have you used any type of video editing software before? If yes, what
and how good are you at using it?
3. How easy do you find it to motivate yourself and others to accomplish
tasks to deadlines?
4. How well do you think you are able to work in a group?
5. If 1 is very easy and 10 is very hard, on a scale from 1-10, how difficult
or not do you think it is to produce a film opening sequence for
coursework? Why do you think this?
Narrative and story analysis
Pick a film to watch and then answer the following questions
1. What story type(s) can be applied to this film?
2. What happens to move the narrative from equilibrium to disruption?
3. How is the new equilibrium established
4. Who is the hero? What do they do?
5. Who is the villain? What do they do?
6. What ‘elixir’ does the hero return to the ordinary world with?
