Definition Of Home Textile
Home textiles are fabrics and cloths used specifically for furnishing a residence.
The materials and design of each are defined by functional and aesthetic uses of
each. Some of the most common home textiles include: Floor coverings.
DIFFERENT FIBERS USED FOR HOME TEXTILES
Apart from the natural fibers, which are being used very much in the home textiles like cotton,
silk, wool, linen, etc. and some more of the man made fibers are also being very much used
now a day, that includes polyester, rayon, nylon, polypropylene, Teflon, recron, acrylic, etc.
Recently some modern fibers are introduced in the market are being used for the home
textiles now a days such as.
Sendura :- Sendura is a polyester filament specialty yarn for drapery fabrics. Its striking fabric
surface and dull, silky luster is enhanced by the harmony of colours and attractive printed
designs, mostly in floral motifs. The handle of sendura fabric resembles that of washable silk
and the drape, depending on the fabric construction, is light to compact, but still supple-like
heavy high-grade silk.
DIFFERENT FIBERS USED FOR HOME TEXTILES
Varie :- The Varie yarn family comes in counts of between 150 and 405 dtex. Heavier types of
drapery fabrics are made from Varie 405 dtex, while 240 dtex is used is used in lighter drapery
fabrics, including transparent styles, in weight classes around 110 g/m2.
Lintex :- The yarns of the Lintex family have a natural character with a pronounced linen and
a fine texture. Fabrics made of or with Lintex have a fine, rustic, somewhat straw-like texture
with a grainy and dry handle. Owing to its structure, Lintex is ideally suited to bringing vitality
to the background of printed drapery fabrics.
Crinkle :- A combination of texture and luster in curtain nets and drapery can be obtained
with Diolen crinkle, its special yarn structure creating a lively fabrics surface. Crinkle is still
mainly used for raschal curtain nets as patterning thread in fall-plate curtains. Against a dull,
textured background, the crinkles produce a finely dispersed, structuring luster.
Different Types Of Home Textiles
Sheets and Pillowcases: References to sheets and pillowcases are generally related to fabrics
woven with a plain weave of cotton, or more often, cotton/polyester blended yarns. If they
have easy care, no-iron properties, they are likely to be so labeled.
Different Types Of Home Textiles
Blankets: Blankets are made of various constructions and compositions, which provide
different degrees of warmth, softness, and durability. They are usually woven, but can be
knitted or stitch-knitted.
Different Types Of Home Textiles
Terry Towels: The primary function of a terry towel is to absorb moisture from wet skin. It
must, however, be strong enough to withstand the strain of the rubbing and pulling, twisting
and tugging of the user, and of constant laundering.
Different Types Of Home Textiles
Tablecloths: Table cloths are generally made of cotton, linen, rayon, polyester, or blends of
any combination of these fibres. They are produced in various ways, designs, and patterns
Different Types Of Home Textiles
Carpets and Rugs: Floor coverings have been made from textile fibres for more than five
thousand years. Throughout civilization, rugs and carpets have formed a part of the history
and culture of races and nations.
Some applications of the home textiles
● Woven & knit wipes.
● Non-woven wipes.
● Ticking.
● Spring Insulators.
● Platform cloth (used in famishing).
● Dust cloth fabrics.
● Skirt linings & other fabrics (for used in furnishing).
● Carpet backings.
● Sewing thread are used in furnishing & house hold textile.
● Curtain.
● Bed sheet, Bed cover.
Hometech - Market
Consumption is forecast to grow to nearly 2.9 mn
tons by 2010 with a value of US$ 8.8 bn
The market is fairly mature in Western economies
The growth in emerging economies such as India
and China is expected to accelerate.
Hometech - Market in
Bangladesh
• Bangladesh earned US$ 150 million by exporting
home textile products in the FY 2004-05. In addition,
this export income has been increased to about US$
753.01 million in the FY 2015-2016.
• In the middle years, the export growth had fluctuated,
also indicated to earn better revenue as well.
Global Hometech Textiles Market:
Challenges
The major challenge faced by the global hometech textiles market is
frequent changes in raw material prices. The rise and degradation in raw
material prices is affecting the imbalance in prices of the global
hometech textiles market. Moreover, low degree of consumer
preference towards the technical textiles, specially hometech textiles is
a major reason posing as a restraint to the global hometech textiles
market. In addition, less requirement of luxurious needs such as
hometech textile products is again a critical challenge to the global
hometech textiles market.
