Spelling test and phonics
This week we have decided to set 10 spellings for you to work on each day (Monday –Friday) Perhaps
you can have a mini-test each day and use a look, cover, write, check method on any you are finding
difficult in preparation for the next day when you will be tested again.
This weeks spelling test words are:
Sight words: class, grass, pass, plant, prove, improve, sure, sugar, eye, because
In phonics this week we will work on:
Spelling rules: the suffixes –less, and –ly when added to the end of a word. Here are some words to
practise... badly, hopeless, happily, lovely, slowly, quickly, careless, fearless. Practise writing
them, so that you are confident at spelling them. Also write each word into a sentence.
Attached as a PDF there is also a cursive handwriting sheet and a word search linked to suffixes

Can you unscramble these sentences about this picture?
Monday’s maths – Today’s daily ‘do now’ is doubling.

Monday’s activity- fractions of a number ½
We have solved fractions through e.g ½ of 10 = 5 (bar method)
sharing out the number onto a pizza
or onto a fraction bar. Look
carefully at the number you are
sharing and how many it needs to
be shared between. Remember to share the number then count how many are in one ½ to get your answer.
(Please show your workings for each question in your exercise book)
½ of 12 = ½ of 18= ½ of 22 =
½ of 8 = ½ of 14 = ½ of 28 =
½ of 16 = ½ of 6 = ½ of 4 =
½ of 20 = ½ of 24 = ½ of 26 = 5
We Need You!
UhOh! We've forgotten how to write sentences again!
In this paragraph we've forgotten capital letters, full
stops and some of our year 2 spellings! Can you help
us spot the mistakes?
