3. How to Access
• Britannica Library Reference Center can be
accessed on any device with an internet
connection.
• Students and library patrons can access
Britannica by signing into the AHML library
website with their username and password.
• Britannica Library Reference Center can be
found through the local library’s online
collection of databases.
4. Britannica – the past 250 years
• First edition printed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1768 as an alphabetical compilation
of in-depth articles on a variety of subjects
• Gains international fame in the late 1700s, with notable contributors and a growing
selection of topics
• Becomes the first encyclopedia on the internet in 1994
• 2012 – the print set of Encyclopedia Britannica was discontinued
• Britannica is used in over 200 countries and translated into over 20 different
languages

• Click on the search icon in the upper right corner
• Enter in the key word that you’re searching for
• The search will instantly begin to populate with results
and recommendations

• Select your broad topic – history, animals,
arts and literature, science and mathematics,
etc.
• Narrow your search through subcategories
• Example: Under “history” — “ancient
world”, “middle ages”, “global expansion”,
etc.
• Continue to narrow your search through
subcategories under the initial subcategory
