HomeMade Marketplace is an online marketplace connecting home chefs with customers. It aims to help home chefs sell their homemade foods by taking away the hassle of finding customers and attending events. The site was created by three food lovers in the Bay Area to promote local food and support home chefs starting their businesses, which have become legal under cottage food laws passed in several states. It provides listings, information about regulations, and a way for chefs to sell directly through the site or attend events.

I'm a big fan of Blue Apron - and a big fan of startups in general. Recently I had a chance to talk with the founders and discuss how they might improve their marketing at Blue Apron across all channels.
While this is far from comprehensive, I touched on a handful of things they could improve immediately as it relates to SEO, SEM (Adwords), Social (Facebook, YouTube), E-mail and the website in general.

At MMB, I was one of three members of a team that developed this pitch for the Blue Apron ingredient delivery service. Each member played a key role in constructing the presentation. My duties included copywriting, creative input, and assistance in market research.

HomeMade Marketplace is the online hub for home chefs and culinary
hunters looking for local home made dishes.
Since the approval of the Cottage Food Law in multiple States, home chefs
can finally start selling a range of food items. But most of them spend
majority of their time in finding customers and attending local events in order
to sell their items.
HomeMade Marketplace takes away this hassle so that home chefs can
focus on what they are good at…….. creating delicious food.
Our team is formed around 3 Bay Area food lovers that are on a mission to
promote local food and help home chefs in their first entrepreneurial steps.
And as Jerry Brown (CA’s governor) once said: “The California Homemade
Food Act will help small and fledgling businesses produce and sell food
made out of their homes under a more streamlined regulatory structure.”

What are Cottage Food Organizations (CFO’s)?
Which food can be sold from my CFO?
Do I have to get a permit?
Yes! There are two types of permits you can choose from, depending on whether you plan to
sell all of your food products directly to consumers yourself or whether you plan to sell some of
your products through a local store or restaurant.
You need to get a Class A permit if you (your household members and/or your employee) will
sell only directly to consumers anywhere in California. This includes sales at a farmers’ market, at
roadside stands, at festivals and other events, from your home or anywhere where you or your
employee are selling the food product directly to consumers. This also includes selling wedding
cakes or other foods that will be purchased by an individual to serve to their guests at an event.
You need to get a Class B permit in order to sell indirectly to consumers such as by selling your
food to a store, restaurant, café or any other business that will sell the product. In other
words, you need a Class B permit if you will have any wholesale accounts. Note that you can
only sell wholesale to businesses within the county you produce your food unless a different
county specifically chooses to allow indirect sales of cottage food products from other
counties.
Where do I get a permit for my CFO and how much does it cost?
Can I deliver my merchandise?
When somebody purchases my food, how do I get paid?
Is there a limit on the amount of money I can make and do I have to pay
taxes on this?
Do I need a business license?
How much does it cost to post a listing?
How long will my listing be posted on this site?
How do I turn my listing into a premium one?
