• To crew members regarding health
• To commanding officer in regards to public health, crew members health,
etc…
MISSION
• The COVID-19 is a “flu-like” disease caused by a newly identified
coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that emerged in China.
• It causes fairly mild disease in most people, but also can cause
severe disease and sometimes death. People who are older or
already ill seem to be a greater risk for severe disease
• The virus is primarily spread from person to person by respiratory
droplets from coughs and sneezes.
What is COVID-19 /Coronavirus?
a. fever or feeling feverish;
b. cough
c. shortness of breath
d. runny nose/sneezing; and
e. sore throat
What are the Symptoms of COVID-19?
The same actions that will prevent the spread of seasonal influenza virus (flu) or the common cold will work for
preventing infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. This means:
a) WASHING HANDS often with soap and warm running water for 20 seconds (ESPECIALLY BEFORE EATING),
b) Using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available,
c) Avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands,
d) Applying proper cough and sneeze etiquette when in public to reduce the spread of germs.
e) e. Exercising caution when deciding to spend time in large crowds or in crowded areas where you cannot
easily extract yourself if you, or others around you, become ill
Protection & Prevention
• CAL is committed to enforcing the World Health Organisation
recommendation for workplace hygiene through enhanced cleaning station
practices
• CAL recently had her Ship Sanitation inspection and was given a clean bill of
health
• CAL is also committed to applying the new isolation protocol for HMC Ships
put forward by the RCN Surgeon. This isolation protocol will be applied to
isolate a “Person Under Investigation (PUI)” from the rest of the crew in
order to minimize risk to the crew.
Calgary’s response
• Before, during and after your travel, you may be screened for symptoms. If
you are sick, you must tell the local medical authorities.
• If you have concerns about young children, or already sick dependents, it is
important to disclose this information to the Sickbay Staff so they may
better advise you and ensure your loved-ones’ well-being.
• There may be occasions when you will be advised by authorities to self-
isolate. This may be for 14 days (or more). Specific guidance and details
will be provided by local medical and other authorities via your Sickbay
Staff.
Self-isolation
Where can I find more information in COVID-
19?
Up-to-date information on COVID-19 is available from the Government of
Canada at:
coronavirus-infection.html
It is important to review this information as it answers many of the questions
that we have received about this virus (e.g., when to wear a mask, how the
virus is passed from person to person).
• Additionally, the following links are useful to find answers to frequently asked
questions https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-
novel-coronavirus-infection/frequently-asked-questions.html and
• https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html.
On behalf of the Officers and Crew,
thank you for your support for
HMCS Calgary
and the Royal Canadian Navy.
ONWARD!

  • 49. • Before, during and after your travel, you may be screened for symptoms. If you are sick, you must tell the local medical authorities. • If you have concerns about young children, or already sick dependents, it is important to disclose this information to the Sickbay Staff so they may better advise you and ensure your loved-ones’ well-being. • There may be occasions when you will be advised by authorities to self- isolate. This may be for 14 days (or more). Specific guidance and details will be provided by local medical and other authorities via your Sickbay Staff. Self-isolation

Up-to-date information on COVID-19 is available from the Government of Canada at: • https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel- coronavirus-infection.html It is important to review this information as it answers many of the questions that we have received about this virus (e.g., when to wear a mask, how the virus is passed from person to person). • Additionally, the following links are useful to find answers to frequently asked questions https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019- novel-coronavirus-infection/frequently-asked-questions.html and • https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html.

  6. Emergency Child Care One-on-one counselling
  7. Plan and prepare well. – and an important part of that plan is to have make sure your family has our number. If it is the only thing you do…make sure you have the MFRC number. We are there 24/7 – originally designed as the one stop shop for military families. One number people can remember and access as a starting point for any number of reasons – information, support, resources . So for you single members, make sure your parents have it in case they need to get information, and for you married folk, make sure it is on the fridge.
  8. Information for parents of children, information for volunteering, information for family networks, information for support services and family care plans.
  9. Deployments can be very isolating for those who don’t have strong support networks Lots of ways to get connected

  16. The risk is highest when you are in close contact with someone who is infected (e.g., shaking hands, sharing objects/drinks/cigarettes, touching handrails/doorknobs that have not been regularly cleaned).
  17.  Most of the time, the symptoms are relatively mild and similar to the common cold or flu. Sometimes, disease can be more severe and can cause pneumonia, other breathing difficulties and death. Symptoms can include:
  18. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (use your elbow if a tissue is not available). Immediately dispose of any tissues you have used into the garbage as soon as possible and WASH YOUR HANDS afterwards,
  19. The best way to prevent COVID-19 is to avoid becoming infected. Practically, this means enforcing a HIGH standard of personnel hygiene.
