1. Hip Hop Shakespeare Evaluation
I think I met the aim of the brief quite well because the images because it
shows the story of Romeo and Juliet but in a modern setting because of the
way I created the images. I didn’t fully understand the brief at first though
because I found it quite confusing and didn’t really know what to do, I was able
to work out what to do though and understood it better. I used the correct
methods and techniques because I put an image together first on Photoshop
and then drew over it all in Illustrator using the correct drawing tools and
colours. I think I was skilful because I had to use certain skills to create the
image such as the pen tool on illustrator which is quite difficult and requires
skill to use as well as putting the images to a mock up, Photoshop and
illustrator in general require you to be quite skilful to use. I think I was quite
professional because I used software like Photoshop and illustrator which
industry professionals would use but I don’t think my artwork looked very
professional though because it was still quite messy and there were plenty of
gaps in my artwork. I showed I could solve problems because I didn’t even
understand the brief at first and had no idea what I was supposed to create but
I asked questions and looked at example’s to help me. There were many areas
for improvement, the main one being the overall tidiness off the images, they
were quite messy and it looked slightly unprofessional so that is something I
would definitely improve. I would also change what I put in the images and
make it tell the story a little bit better but just make it easier to draw over as
well.
I didn’t do very much research because we watched the film Romeo and Juliet
which told us the storyline but I researched the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company
to learn what they’re about and what they expected to help me know what
kind of images to create, I made a mood board of a few existing to help me out
as well. Overall it was very effective because I was confused about what I had
to do and the research helped me and also helped me to produce the best
work possible. I didn’t really record my findings/thoughts as I worked because I
just focussed on making the images so I didn’t think about recording them, it
would have been helpful to do it so I know where to make improvements but I
would record them if I did it again. I asked for teachers opinions on the first
image because I wanted to see if I was doing it right and see if it was of a good

2. enough quality which it was, this was helpful because then I knew whether or
not I wasn’t on the right track and I didn’t continue to make images that
weren’t correct.
Planning was effective because I had to plan what I was going to create for a
guideline to follow and it helped me get the task done quickly and easily
instead of thinking of potential ideas when I could be making them.
Preparation was quite because I got some images together to use rather than
finding images part way through making the images which saved some time
and made it easier for me. Production was effective because I got it all done
quite quickly without too many problems, there are just some gaps in some of
the drawings but it’s not too bad and overall I think it is quite good. My time
management wasn’t very good, I didn’t follow the plan I made very well and I
ended up completing it long after the deadline, I will need to improve my time
management for future projects by sticking to my plan and getting tasks
completed on time. Project management wasn’t great either because likewise
to my time management, I ended up not sticking to my plan and not
completing tasks in the correct order, this caused me to complete tasks late
and miss the deadline, I did get everything completed in the end so it was an
improvement. I would definitely need to improve both time and project
management because it will really help in future projects. My ability to monitor
to work in progress was quite good because I had to decide whether or not I
was pleased with the image I created before I moved onto the next one so I
could improve it and I could see if I was doing it correctly and sticking to the
brief. My creative ability was effective which it had to be because the task
requires lots of creativity, to create a modern version of Romeo and Juliet is
something which required plenty of creativity and I think I did it well.
The artwork didn’t really compare to my original intentions because they were
too complicated and I wouldn’t have been able to create it, I’m still pleased
with what I created though even if it doesn’t match what I was aiming to
create. I think it works for the intended audience because the audience is
mainly teenagers because of the urban setting and it’s all in an urban setting
and includes things like guns and cars which are all part of modern culture and
things which interest teenagers. I’m quite pleased with the way it looks
because I expected it to look worse but it’s still quite messy at some parts and

3. could be improved if I went over it a bit. Apart from that though I’m pleased
with the way it looks and the style I’ve created. I am pleased with the
techniques because I had to learn to use them to create what I wanted and I
will be able to use them in the future and for future projects. I think they are
ready for print because they look quite good and meet the brief very well as
well as being suitable for the target audience, they are a little untidy and could
use improvement but I still think they’re ready to be printed as they are.
