INTRODUCTION
Transportation engineering is a branch of engineering that's involved within the
planning, design, operation, and maintenance of safe and efficient transportation
systems.
Transportation deals with design, development, construction and maintenance of
roadways, airways, tunnel bridge, etc.
Other objectives: Speed, Comfort, Convenience, Economy, Environmental .
Road transport is the viable means to transport people and goods on streets and
highways.
Infrastructures of infrastructure.

PROBLEM
STATEMENT
Due to uneven geography, most
settlements do not appear to be
connected by a road network
The roads that are being built do
not appear to meet the most
recent specifications
Due to the steep and unstable
slope, landslide problems are the
main concern during monsoon,
making the journey challenging
Narrow road width that creates
difficulties for public and school
buses to navigate on

OBJECTIVES
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The general objective of the project is to carry out the detailed analysis
of the road, the Detail Engineering Survey, Design and Cost Estimate of
the road segment.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
The specific objectives of this project are :
To present detailed designs and drawings of various elements of roads
such as alignment, profile, cross-section, L-section, gradient, etc.
To estimate cost and its rate analysis.
Design of pavement and drainage.
To prepare the detailed project report.

LITERATURE REVIEW
HISTORY OF ROADS
Roman roads are considered as the first constructed road in the history of world.
John macadam first discovered the modern road construction techniques.
Classification of Roads
Administrative classification
 National highways (through out east to west and south to north ;and joins regional
highway)
 Feeder roads (links district and zonal headquaters)
 District roads(links different parts of country)
 Urban roads(links the road to house industrial areas)
Technical classification
 Class I (ADT over 20000 pcu and speed of 120kmph)
 Class II(ADT between 5000-20000 pcu and speed of 100 kmph)
 Class III(ADT between 2000-5000 pcu and speed of 80kmph)
 Class IV(ADT less than 2000 pcu and speed of 60kmph)
The designation of the road is specified under the standards of NRS2070 and
NRRS2071

LITERATURE REVIEW
GEOMETRIC DESIGN
It deals with the dimension and layout of visible features of the highway such as
alignment, sight distance and intersection.
To provide the optimum efficiency in traffic operation with maximum safety at
reasonable cost.
Geometric deign of highways deals with following elements :
Cross sectional elements
Sight distance consideration
Horizontal alignment details
Vertical alignment details
Intersection elements

METHODOLOGY
DESK STUDY
A desk study is the collation and review of information already available
about a site and is carried out at an early stage of site appraisal to
inform and guide the remainder of the site investigation.
DATA COLLECTION
It is the collection of data and values related to road survey. It is
completed in two parts:
1. Field survey :
Field surveys are one of the most used methods used by researchers for
the process of primary data collection. In cases where secondary sources
of data do not provide sufficient information, field surveys allow
researchers to better monitor and evaluate the impact of field
experiments.
DETAILED ENGINEERING DESIGN AND COST ESTIMATE OF ROAD SECTION | Bhadra, 2079 BS 11
METHODOLOGY
2. Topographic survey:
Topographical land survey measures and identifies the exact location and
specifications of natural and human made features within an area of land. The
survey is then drawn up into an appropriate and detailed plan it
includes human-made features such as boundaries, neighboring buildings,
walkways etc. The topographical survey also picks up natural features such as
trees, ponds and ground contours.
DATA PROCESSING
It is the act of converting raw data into structured information that can be
analyzed for insights. It is done in order to fix errors, and to fix such errors.
DATA ANALYSIS
In this step, we calculate the collected field data. It is done by sitting in office or
home. It is performed after the completion of field work.

STUDY AREA
The study area for our survey is Changunarayan municipality, Bhaktapur

EXPECTEDOUTCOME
After the completion of the project, we are expecting the
following outcome :
Detailed Geometric design of a road segment
Design of road pavement
Computer simulation
Estimation of total cost
