"This talk will discuss why it is important to measure High Performance Computing, and how to do so. The talk covers measuring performance, both technical (e.g., benchmarks) and non-technical (e.g., utilization); measuring the cost of HPC, from the simple beginnings to the complexity of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and beyond; and finally, the daunting world of measuring value, including the dreaded Return on Investment (ROI) and other metrics. The talk is based on NAG HPC consulting experiences with a range of industry HPC users and others. This is not a sales talk, nor a highly technical talk. It should be readily understood by anyone involved in using or managing HPC technology."

Presentation on Innovations in London's Transport: Big Data for a Better Customer Service by Andrew Hyman, TFL at HPC and Big Data 2016 in Central London
In this deck from the HPC User Forum in Detroit, Leonardo Flores from the European Commission presents: EuroHPC and European HPC Strategy.
EuroHPC is a joint collaboration between European countries and the European Union about developing and supporting exascale supercomputing by 2022/2023. The EuroHPC declaration, signed on March 23 2017 signed by 7 countries marked the beginning of EuroHPC. Meanwhile there are 21 countries that have joined EuroHPC. However it is not certain yet whether Cyprus will sign the EuroHPC JU from the start (News from 2018-05-01). Latvia was the 21nd country to commit to joining EuroHPC. Estonia was the 21nd to sign the declaration and the 22nd to commit."

This presentation was prepared by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center for the Festibity sponsors who visited the center with Mateo Valero.
The BSC-CNS (Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación) is the National Supercomputing Facility in Spain and was officially constituted in April 2005. BSC-CNS manages MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, located at the Torre Girona chapel.
The mission of BSC-CNS is to investigate, develop and manage information technology in order to facilitate scientific progress. With this aim, special dedication has been taken to areas such as Computer Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences and Computational Applications in Science and Engineering.
Bob Jones, PICSE & HNSciCloud Coordinator, was invited to present the PICSE results and the new HNSciCloud project in the "data infrastructure" session of the Open Science Conference on the 5th of April 2016.

The health crisis due to COVID-19 is shaping a new reality in which the exchange and access to health data in a secure way will be more and more necessary. In this complex challenge converge both the respect for the individual rights as well as the interests of the patients and the need to promote the research in pursuit of the public interest. To face this challenge, we can find different approaches across Europe. In this webinar, we will present the experiences of three EU-funded projects (BigMedilytics, BodyPass, and DeepHealth), besides an overview of the legal framework and recommendations to enforce both national regulations and GDPR by an expert in data privacy and security.
On the 20th of January 2016, Bob Jones, CERN and PICSE & HNSciCloud Coordinator, presented HNSciCloud, the recently launched (Jan 2016) European Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) project co-funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 Programme.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
