This urban installation on the city threshold was conceived as an
experience engaging viewers from a distance as they approach the city
and as they move through the installation.
The repetitive ribs enhance the sense of
speed, as it morphs and tapers along
two diagonally opposite pockets
implying a framing of the primary
vehicular artery.
During the day, these ribs cast prolonged shadows across the roads, whilst
at night they are lighting features, creating a similar experience through
inversion.. A ribbon of tress are designed to intertwine the site with a
central green pocket for the existing mosque on site.

Architecturally the design form is conceived as a linear volume folding along the contours of the site. The metaphoric ‘folds’ are
conceived as event spaces; designed as voids to create a vertical synapse, visually connecting/ integrating multiple levels. The
ramps wrap around these voids creating a display of the movement of people. Through its folds it also creates a series of external
break out spaces that can cater to gender segregation.
The library metaphorically is
conceived as a space that
facilitates the transcendence of
space through the mind. The
design concept builds on the
notion of the text, enabling virtual
transcendence as the 'unfolding
of (mind) space.'

Of the 3 options presented, one highlighting a
tapered cantilevered form, and another
articulating the sculptural capacity of cement,
the client opted for the display of fair-faced
concrete panels in a building form that was
conceived as a series of cubes encasing a glazed
volume.
The rigidity of the form is broken by an oblong
oval oculus. Internally diagonal bridges on first
