High risk groups include young children, elderly adults, and those with underlying health conditions. Influenza spreads through respiratory droplets when infected people cough or sneeze. Vaccination is the most effective prevention method. Avian influenza primarily affects birds and can be mild or highly lethal depending on the strain. Some avian influenza viruses can infect humans but do not usually spread between people.
