2. HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN
Indicator of active infection
It appears in blood in incubation period.
It lasts for3-4 weeks.
The persistence of HbsAg for more than 6
months indicates chronic infection.
3. Antibody to HbsAg usually appears
after 3-6 months and persists for many
years.
It implies either previous infection or
vaccination.
4. HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIGEN
It is not found in blood
But antibody formed against is appears
early.
Initially its Ig M type and Ig G appear
later.
5. Sometimes reveal acute infection when
HbsAg has disappeared and before anti-
Hbs has developed.
6. HEPATITIS B E-ANTIGEN
Indicator of viral replication.
In acute hepatitis B it may appear
transiently at the onset of the illness, and
followed by the production of antibody.
