Wayland support in WebKit2GTK+ (GUADEC 2014)
Wayland support is being added to WebKitGTK+ to replace its existing X11 backend. It implements hardware-accelerated compositing of rendered content layers through OpenGL/OpenGL ES by using a nested Wayland compositor in the UIProcess. This allows the WebProcess to be an EGL client of the compositor. It requires some additional EGL extensions and a small Wayland protocol extension. Testing is challenging due to hardware limitations but provides an opportunity to improve performance and support for embedded targets like Raspberry Pi.
Essential parts to implement own Ozone backend
This document provides instructions for implementing an Ozone backend using GTK on Chromium. It outlines the key entry points and classes that need to be implemented, including OzonePlatformGtk, GtkOzoneWindow, GtkScreen, and classes for the GPU side like SurfaceFactoryOzone and SurfaceOzoneCanvas. Implementing these classes and interfaces would allow Chromium to draw its content to a GTK window using the new Ozone/GTK backend.

Nowadays the Kappa Architecture is surely one of the best architectural pattern to implement a streaming system. While the choice for the log / journal side is usually straightforward thanks to engines like Apache Kafka, DistributedLog and Pravega, perfectly fitting the write side of this architecture, we didn’t find an open source counterpart able to fully satisfy all the requirements we believe are essential for a time series database such as: high availability, partition tolerance, optimized time series management, security, out of the box Apache Flink integration, ad-hoc front-end streaming features based on WebSocket protocol and natural real-time Analytics readiness. For this reason we took the decision to start the development of NSDB (Natural Series DB). During this talk we will introduce the main concepts behind the ideation of NSDB focusing on our starting goals and its architecture giving an overview of its first draft implementation. We will eventually provide an explanation on how it leverages Akka cluster and how it partitions data on a time basis.

Managing Flink on Kubernetes - FlinkK8sOperator
The goal of Lyft is to “Improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation”. Our product is fundamentally real-time and building a reliable platform that consumes and processes massive amounts of streaming data empowers us to achieve our mission. The advent of containers and Kubernetes has completely changed how we deploy and manage stateless services. At Lyft we have doubled down on Docker containers and Kubernetes for all the services in production. To achieve a homogenous infrastructure we decided to extend Kubernetes to manage stateful streaming services like Flink. We developed the FlinkK8sOperator which leverages Kubernetes CustomResourceDefinition to enable native management of Flink applications on Kubernetes. FlinkK8sOperator employs a state machine that transitions the application through a series of states, until a stable state is attained. Each Flink application on Kubernetes spins up a separate Flink Cluster, with its own UI, providing clear isolation for monitoring and debugging. This talk provides an overview of running Flink applications on Kubernetes using FlinkK8sOperator, showcasing the entire lifecycle of the application from creation to execution, with focus of transitions during deployments and stateful updates, concluding with a demo.

Petri Niemi Qt Web Kit
QtWebKit provides a web browser engine that allows rendering of HTML, XHTML, SVG, and scripting with JavaScript. It is based on the open source WebKit engine. QtWebKit enables embedding web content and full AJAX functionality anywhere in Qt applications. Custom Qt GUI components and QObjects can be exposed to the web environment through HTML tags and subclassing. This allows interaction between web content and native application interfaces and services.

Helm and the zen of managing complex Kubernetes apps
Helm is a package manager for Kubernetes that allows deploying and managing Kubernetes applications. It defines applications as charts that contain templates for Kubernetes manifest files along with configuration parameters. Helm runs a server called Tiller on the Kubernetes cluster that manages releasing and installing charts. Charts can be stored in local or remote repositories and contain templates, dependencies, configuration and hooks. Helm provides commands to search, install, upgrade, and delete releases of packaged applications on Kubernetes clusters.

We will take a look at Knative Serving and Eventing through an escalating demo that will let us tour the capabilities of Knative. Serving provides a container based scale to zero, scale real big functionality; as well as rainbow deploys, auto-TLS, domain mappings, and various knobs to control concurrency and scale traits. Eventing provides a thin abstraction on top of traditional message brokers (think Kafka or AMQP) that lets you compose your application without considering the message persistence choices in the moment.

This document summarizes a demo of using Terraform to provision resources on an OpenNebula infrastructure. It describes the OpenNebula architecture which includes 400 VM instances across 7 nodes with 3TB of RAM, 250 cores, and a CephFS datastore. In reality, the challenges of taking your existing application to the cloud native environment of Kubernetes are huge! They require changes in the way your applications behave and the way you administer them.

Hot deploy is an emerging development technique in OpenShift that provides several benefits:
1. It reduces the need to have surrounding systems like mock services running locally by syncing local code changes to the cluster in real-time.
2. It allows for integration and integration testing to begin earlier in the development process.
3. It emerges developers with an integrated cluster workspace and shifts the development process left by cutting development time.
Hot deploy complements but does not replace standard deployments. It deploys changes only to development namespaces on development clusters with some exceptions. It supports syncing changes from both backend services and frontend code.

This document discusses GitLab Continuous Integration (GitLab CI/CD). It defines continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment. Streaming your Lyft Ride Prices - Flink Forward SF 2019
At Lyft we dynamically price our rides with a combination of various data sources, machine learning models, and streaming infrastructure for low latency, reliability and scalability. Dynamic pricing allows us to quickly adapt to real world changes and be fair to drivers (by say raising rates when there's a lot of demand) and fair to passengers (by let’s say offering to return 10 mins later for a cheaper rate). The streaming platform powers pricing by bringing together the best of two worlds using Apache Beam; ML algorithms in Python and Apache Flink as the streaming engine.

Helm and the zen of managing complex Kubernetes apps
Helm is a package manager for Kubernetes that allows deploying and managing Kubernetes applications. It defines applications as charts that contain templates for Kubernetes manifest files along with configuration parameters. Helm runs a server called Tiller on the Kubernetes cluster that manages releasing and installing charts. Charts can be stored in local or remote repositories and contain templates, dependencies, configuration and hooks. Helm provides commands to search, install, upgrade, and delete releases of packaged applications on Kubernetes clusters.

We will take a look at Knative Serving and Eventing through an escalating demo that will let us tour the capabilities of Knative. Serving provides a container based scale to zero, scale real big functionality; as well as rainbow deploys, auto-TLS, domain mappings, and various knobs to control concurrency and scale traits. Eventing provides a thin abstraction on top of traditional message brokers (think Kafka or AMQP) that lets you compose your application without considering the message persistence choices in the moment.

This document summarizes a demo of using Terraform to provision resources on an OpenNebula infrastructure. It describes the OpenNebula architecture which includes 400 VM instances across 7 nodes with 3TB of RAM, 250 cores, and a CephFS datastore. It also provides links to two Git repositories - one for an OpenNebula API and one for a Terraform provider that uses the API - that can be used to try provisioning VMs, templates, networks and more via Terraform.

In reality, the challenges of taking your existing application to the cloud native environment of Kubernetes are huge! They require changes in the way your applications behave and the way you administer them.
Do you really know how to get up and running with your existing applications in Kubernetes?
In this talk I will share my lessons learned taking JFrog's existing applications, prepping and deploying them to Kubernetes.
I'll go over some best practices of preparing your application for Kubernetes with some examples for what we did.Hot deploy
Hot deploy is an emerging development technique in OpenShift that provides several benefits:
1. It reduces the need to have surrounding systems like mock services running locally by syncing local code changes to the cluster in real-time.
2. It allows for integration and integration testing to begin earlier in the development process.
3. It emerges developers with an integrated cluster workspace and shifts the development process left by cutting development time.
Hot deploy complements but does not replace standard deployments. It deploys changes only to development namespaces on development clusters with some exceptions. It supports syncing changes from both backend services and frontend code.

At Lyft we dynamically price our rides with a combination of various data sources, machine learning models, and streaming infrastructure for low latency, reliability and scalability. Dynamic pricing allows us to quickly adapt to real world changes and be fair to drivers (by say raising rates when there's a lot of demand) and fair to passengers (by let’s say offering to return 10 mins later for a cheaper rate). The streaming platform powers pricing by bringing together the best of two worlds using Apache Beam; ML algorithms in Python and Apache Flink as the streaming engine.

Making your app soar without a container manifest
This document discusses containerization and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools. It introduces buildpacks as a way to containerize applications without needing a Dockerfile. DEEP LEARNING FOR SMART GRID INTRUSION DETECTION: A HYBRID CNN-LSTM-BASED MODEL
As digital technology becomes more deeply embedded in power systems, protecting the communication
networks of Smart Grids (SG) has emerged as a critical concern. Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3)
represents a multi-tiered application layer protocol extensively utilized in Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA)-based smart grids to facilitate real-time data gathering and control functionalities.
Robust Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are necessary for early threat detection and mitigation because
of the interconnection of these networks, which makes them vulnerable to a variety of cyberattacks. To
solve this issue, this paper develops a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) model specifically designed for intrusion
detection in smart grids. The proposed approach is a combination of the Convolutional Neural Network
(CNN) and the Long-Short-Term Memory algorithms (LSTM). We employed a recent intrusion detection
dataset (DNP3), which focuses on unauthorized commands and Denial of Service (DoS) cyberattacks, to
train and test our model. The results of our experiments show that our CNN-LSTM method is much better
at finding smart grid intrusions than other deep learning algorithms used for classification. In addition,
our proposed approach improves accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, achieving a high detection
accuracy rate of 99.50%.

Electronic control devices calculate incorrect outputs because of EMI and sensors give misleading values which can prove fatal in case of automotives. In this paper, the authors have non exhaustively tried to review research work concerned with the investigation of EMI in ICs and prediction of this EMI using various modelling methodologies and measurement setups.

Climate change's impact on the planet forced the United Nations and governments to promote green energies and electric transportation. The deployments of photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) systems gained stronger momentum due to their numerous advantages over fossil fuel types. The advantages go beyond sustainability to reach financial support and stability. The work in this paper introduces the hybrid system between PV and EV to support industrial and commercial plants. This paper covers the theoretical framework of the proposed hybrid system including the required equation to complete the cost analysis when PV and EV are present. In addition, the proposed design diagram which sets the priorities and requirements of the system is presented. The proposed approach allows setup to advance their power stability, especially during power outages. The presented information supports researchers and plant owners to complete the necessary analysis while promoting the deployment of clean energy. The result of a case study that represents a dairy milk farmer supports the theoretical works and highlights its advanced benefits to existing plants. The short return on investment of the proposed approach supports the paper's novelty approach for the sustainable electrical system. In addition, the proposed system allows for an isolated power setup without the need for a transmission line which enhances the safety of the electrical network
